let's start with check-in. At check-in I was told that the pool was not open, the hot tub was not open, and they could NOT provide the breakfast that they advertise (all three reasons we chose this hotel). they did mention that the hotel next door would allow us to use theirs, and provide a sack breakfast. Then when we get to the room we find that a light is blown out, and the smoke detector battery was dead causing a constant beeping noise. Those were taken care of and we went to dinner. After returning from dinner we find that neither key-card will open our door anymore, and when we told the desk they said that due to covid they were NOT aloud to open it for us. That key-card didn't work either. We ended up waiting outside in the cold for 45minutes before they did open it with a master key that was kept off-premises. they upgraded our room due to that hassle. The new room had a blown out light, and a thumping noise that was coming from the pipes in the wall behind the toilet that kept me up all night, another light fixture had a broken switch, and the screen door was broke leaving us to struggle to open it . Now to check-out, we complained about the "upgraded" room to be told that there was nothing she could due, because she upgraded us, and provided us with access to the pool, hot tub, and breakfast at the hotel next door? We will NEVER stay at, or recommend, this place to anybody ever again.…
I always consider Comfort Inn when traveling. This particular Comfort Inn does not meet your typical Comfort Inn stay standards. The room was dated and overall presented as unkept. Although the tub and surround was nice and appeared new, the floor was dirty. There are no towel or luggage racks. The price was very reflective of the quality. Disappointed.
I had to cancel a group booking at this property due to COVID fears for my elderly passengers. My contract allowed us to have our $300. deposit returned. It never was. I wrote and called the hotel itself many times, wrote to the corporate office and spoke several times to Justna Hershman at Mackinaw City tourism department and also wrote to the West Michigan Tourism Assoc. No one ever made the effort to see to it that the money was returned. Traveler BEWARE if you make any sort of reservation at this property and have to cancel as you may not get your money back.
The room was up dated but it looked like it had been stripped. No towel racks , no info about the hotel. The fridge needs defrosting no extra toilet paper less than half a roll was left in the bathroom. The phone information card was gone. Using COVID as an excuse for substandard service. The beach was filthy. Gave b1g1 coupon for breakfast (it was gross). Used to work for comfort this is not the way they run hotels. Not cleaning rooms on multi day stays is ridiculous. Been traveling for over a week and every other hotel cleaned our room on the second day and offered breakfast. Very disappointed in this Choice Hotel. Pros- the beds were nice. I think it was an updated room
As an experienced hotel operations manager, I really was disappointed with the overall customer service of this property. My first negative experience occurred BEFORE I even set foot on the property. I was about 30-50 minutes away from the hotel when I received a call from a front desk clerk saying that my credit card authorization did not go through and that I needed a new form of payment that instant or my room will be sold as it was Labor Day weekend and the hotel sold out. I understand the predicament the clerk was in however, I lock my credit card as I am afraid of being hacked or scammed. When I assured the clerk I was less than an hour away and I can provide the same card to authorize, she was very adamant that there may not be a room to arrive to if I did not provide a new method of payment. Is it Comfort Inn policy/ or the property management policy to receive credit card numbers over the phone and not a credit card authorization form? I found that very disappointing, I would never give my credit card number over the phone and this policy should change. Not to mention the attitude over the phone was not necessary. I walked through the lobby and absolutely no welcome. Not a how are you, welcome to the Comfort Inn, It was just a “can I help you?” Without a smile or any enthusiasm. I was given my keys and a map, but no WiFi instructions, Pool hours, or given any other amenity information. I checked into my room and the room was a bit outdated, which I could live with, my complaint isn’t about the outdated room. It’s about the attitude and the left over food in my refrigerator as well. I called the front desk to please have housekeeping remove it. I made a phone call later that night to get the WiFi information as I wasn’t given the code at check in. The clerk was a man this time and said the password so fast I asked him nicely to repeat himself. He then condescendingly “told.me.the.password”. I almost wanted to say I’m sorry for asking. At check out there was a totally different clerk, still, no how was your stay? Or may I help you with anything else? But, at least she smiled? The pros: nice view of the lake…
