We had family in town for a show at Little Caesars Friday night and picked the Pontchartrain to stay at. The room was ok however my husband stepped in something sticky on the carpet as you walked into the bathroom and it literally took his sock off. Gross! There were no cups in the room for coffee or water. When we returned from our show Friday night the front door was locked with a hand written note telling us to use the other entrance. Well it was POURING RAIN and our taxi had already left before we saw the note. I called the front desk and the woman did come open the door for us but gave us attitude for it. Seriously? We were paying $340 a night! When we left Saturday we took the elevator (we were on the 8th floor) and when it started down it felt like we went 15 floors down then it slammed stopped and the doors would not open. When they finally did we had only went down 1 floor so needless to say we got out and took the stairs. I told the front desk women all this and they seemed mildly interested. Offered us free coffee in the lobby (since we had NO cups in the room) and when we went to get some it was all gone. Seriously just awful experience. We won’t be recommending this hotel to anyone we know. We have also sent this email twice to the hotel and no one has reached out to us about it. Terrible customer service.

We stayed here while in town for business. We stayed in one of the updated rooms on the 22nd floor with a view of the river. The room was very nice and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly.

The absolute MOST DIFFICULTTY making a reservation! Took over 50 minutes on hone, going through 3 different persons - the first couldn’t even get computer turned on! Turned n? Why wouldn’t it already be fired up in reservation office. Then two different people couldn’t find block of reservations, even their supervisor had difficulty! Arrival at hotel revealed a tired property, with well-worn room carpets and “cottage cheese” ceilings, from the last century. Then even though we are staying continuously for 6 days they have us under 3 different reservations and our confirmation number changes 3 times, our keys expire 3 times and maid services have to be noticed of our Covid protocols 3 times as, get this! The property has no safety protocols. The “fully hot” breakfast is lame; the chafing dishes held tired shriveled items that were barely warm and all service is, you have to carry” coffee, plastic bottle of water, plastic utensils and food to table but no tray, no offer to help. Calls for incidentals to front desk go into limbo or somewhere unknowable for interminable times and there is no concern or sense of urgency to satisfy any request. The incredible amounts of time a guest has to spend in line, on the phone or waiting, are just assumed to be normal. But it ISNT normal for a professional urban hotel. It is just main poor training and lack of hospitality management. In other words, it seems that customer service is not a very well ingrained aspect for ANY of the staff here, front desk, back office, or facilities. Granted, they took over the Crown Royal property just a couple months ago, but this experience is WAY BELOW, what one would expect for a quality property or Wyndham! No enforcement or explanation of any safety protocols.

I generally write only good reviews and I hate to do this, as I'm sure they're having a hard time getting good help during covid, but I think it's astonishing that they can get away with charging what they do for this place. Dirty elevators. Room doors about to fall off the hinges. A shower so small that I'd bump my elbows constantly. Nice ladies at the front desk, and a maintenance guy I ran into was super nice, but folks at the breakfast buffet acted like I was interrupting private time--obviously not trained on how to properly greet and serve. I don't need to be coddled, but I do expect some courtesy--especially at around $300 per night total. Check-in required paper forms to be filled out on a clipboard with a pen that everyone is using. The TV remote in my room was visibly filthy--I used several alcohol wipes to clean it. There was a pubic hair on my sink when I arrived in the room, and I later found a bottle of K-Y lubricant behind the curtains in the window. (Can't make this stuff up!) I was too tired to change rooms after partially unpacking when I first arrived. Thankfully I didn't have to pay for this room (client I was traveling with did) because I would've been pretty upset. Almost forgot-- the bed was EXCELLENT, I'm pleased to say, and thankfully I never heard any sounds at night, except someone yelling in the hallway early.

My wife and I were in Detroit to see the Tigers and Lions over the Sept 10th weekend and chose the Hotel Pontchartrain. Everyone was super nice and the complimentary breakfasts on Saturday, Sunday and Monday was an unexpected surprise. It was very affordable compared to the some of the other hotels that were within walking distance to the stadiums, downtown and the Riverfront. With that said, it's not a 5 star hotel with all the amenities but was decent for the price.
