Our server Luciana was fabulous and the atmosphere was warm but appropriately trendy. We visited on a family vacation to Edgartown during which we ate at several luxury restaurants on the island. Not only was the food here among the best we ate all week, Luciana’s service created a luxurious experience complete with frequent check ins, timely clearing of finished and/or unused plates and glasses (we hate a crowded table), and knowledge of the menu. The carpaccio was insane to boot.

The Harbor View Hotel was a home away from home. I have stayed in hotels for over 260 nights including hotels like the Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas, the Four Seasons in Philadelphia PA, and the New York Edition in NYC. This hotel was by far my favorite. My work group and I stayed in a few of the cottages and we had the most peaceful and fun experience at Martha’s. The staff was very accommodating with questions we had about the town, borrowing bicycles, late check out, rides to to the ferry, gift shop suggestions. Every single staff member was warm and welcoming, dressed professionally, and did not let you lift a finger. Additionally our cottage has an outdoor shower, a wonderful bath tub, a fire place, the entire ambiance was wonderful. This place definitely lives up to the hype and if you’re going to the vineyard for the weekend, you Have to stay here. It was a short walk to town, the views are stunning and not to mention the incredible sunrise view. Just wow.

Our friends on the Vineyard recommended the Harbor View. The original building has a stately stately grande dame air from a bygone era, but with every modern convenience. We stayed in one of the outer buildings near the pool, which was a perfect and private location. The room was well appointed and spacious enough. The bathroom on the other hand, was updated with newer fixtures and wallpaper, but I couldn’t help it was partly due to distract from its teeny tiny size.
We dined in the restaurant on property one evening. Dinner was delicious, only matched by the upscale yet relaxed ambiance.
Unless you want to stay in the more remote “Up Island,” the hotel is perfectly situated in Edgartown, within an easy walk to restaurants, shops and the Chappy ferry.
At $550 per night this hotel is on the pricey side. My only issue is that for the steep nightly rate, bottled water daily shouldn’t be too much to ask, especially when it’s usually standard in far less upscale hotels.

Dear ChinadollIRVC, Thank you for posting a review of the Harbor View Hotel. We appreciate the feedback very much. Thank you for the compliments regarding your experience and our beloved hotel. For future visits, you may wish to consider selecting one of our Junior Suites or Captains Cottages which provide more space and many offer spectacular views of the ocean and harbor. Our hotel provides complimentarily filtered still and sparkling water stations, along with complimentary PLA plastic reusable logo bottles in each room for guests to take home with them. As we are in an ecologically fragile and sensitive island with sea life brimming at our shores, we are in the process of removing all use of single-use plastic bottles. We believe firmly that this movement towards eco-friendly practices serves our guests and our beautiful island well now and for future generations. Please accept my apologies for not making our water service clearer during your visit. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again soon. Scott

Went to stay at Harbor View hotel in July for family vacay. The hotel and area are gorgeous. Well maintained grounds and friendly people. However when you are spending over 2400 dollars a night for a cottage I expect the housekeeping to be up to par. Noticed on second day , clearly didn’t even vacuum the Rooms , sand and dirt on them then I found a piece of candy in sofa , not ours by the way , so clearly didn’t even clean sofa from prior guests. Then following day came back from beach , we all had to shower before dinner and no one had even serviced the room. It was 5pm. That’s when I called front desk and of course told them of the problem. The response of the front desk was that they are short staffed , but could they send some shampoo and shower gel. What ? That was not the correct response of what is to be the nicest hotel on island. I mean connect me to the manager , at least show that you will have this taken care of , something other than the response I received. I asked for manager myself , waited and waited finally I called and I got front office manager who said she was just going to call me … really.
I told her to now hold off until we were at dinner to clean room and just to send some towels. But whatever , when we returned from dinner everything was clean. However no follow up from manager, was ever received. I have stayed at many hotels and follow ups or some thing that Good management does , when a guest is dissatisfied with a service , caused by their staff , I got no call. That to me said it all. Poor management.
Food was mediocre at best. I wanted to love this property. The. Cottages were very pretty but the management and staff were not good. The concierge seemed nice and knowledgeable , told us where to go but never offered to make reservations or actually do anything. Her vibe was almost passive aggressive. Whole family thought the same thing. We are not uptight people either but Like I said if you spend this much a night , you expect a certain level of service. Not going back there.

My husband I just returned from a two week stay at the Harbor View in a junior suite overlooking the Edgartown Harbor. Even though the weather was iffy we had a wonderful time primarily because this hotel feels like home and everyone who works there makes you feel like family. The decor is spot on as a mix of contemporary and beachy. The food at Bettini Restaurant is great and the atmosphere fun. From the front desk people to the maids who cleaned our room (particularly Corinne who took amazing care of us), every single employee works hard to make the guests happy. We even got a call days later to say they would send us our lost check book that was found. That is customer service!
PS The pool and pool restaurant are fantastic- we even hosted a luncheon during our stay
PPS They even have Mercedes vehicles that you can sign up for to borrow ..

I guess we are raving!

Beautiful hotel with a professional team of staff and management. Special shout out to Kaylin who made our stay feel special and like we were at home. This was our first trip to MV and we couldn't have picked a more perfect location for a active family with a 2 year old and 8 month old. Hotel made it easy to stay with kids. The location was perfect. Edgartown felt like the best town for walkability and quality. The hotel is an easy walk but far enough away you don't get any noise. Just steps away out the front doors is the inner light house and a beach to explore. The staff also can give you rides into town should you not want to walk the 5 or 8 minutes. Our number one priority was staying in a resort style location and this met all our objectives. Wonderful restaurant and amazing property inside and out. We will certainly stay here again in the future. We accessed rhe rest of the island by car so staying anywhere else isn't necessary. We preferred the higher end amenities and location here.

We booked two rooms here for 2 weeknights in June for a quick trip to Martha’s Vineyard. I’ll begin with the positives:
Beautiful views of the Edgartown lighthouse and the ocean with a lovely wrap around porch where we enjoyed our morning coffee and evening cocktails from the restaurant. This was a definite highlight of the trip- absolutely serene.
The location was quiet, about a ten minute walk from “downtown” Edgartown meant that it was quiet but so easy to walk into town for shopping or meals. Depending upon how busy they are, they offer golf cart rides into town as well.
The pool is really nice, they have pool attendants to set up your towels and umbrellas as well as servers so you can order food and drinks.

Now the negatives:
It’s pretty outrageously priced for what you get. The rooms are fine, but definitely not worth the price.
We had a room on the third floor and you could hear everything from the room above us: opening and closing drawers, letting their kid run around until 11 PM, and it kept us up at night until they went to bed. I went down to the lobby, but there wasn’t much they could do. The next day they agreed to move us to another building where we could have a room on the top floor. Ultimately, I wasn’t particularly impressed with their service considering what we were paying to stay there. Even offering free breakfast or drinks would have helped, but they didn’t offer us anything else. For such a short stay, having to unpack and repack and unpack again isn’t particularly convenient.

We have stayed at the Harbor View many times over the past 15 years, usually in a suite in one of the cottages. The service is always friendly, and the rooms are beautifully appointed and spacious. This year we stayed in a 2 bedroom reverse town house, and while again, attractive and very spacious, none of got a good night’s sleep because the blinds in the bedrooms are not at all sufficient to block the large amount of light shining outside the windows. I should not be able to read a book at midnight with the blinds closed and no lights on😂.

Not an issue with the rooms or immediate staff, but I have also been slightly disappointed in the disconnection from the local community that seems to have happened with the new ownership. In years past, this hotel hosted a free gathering with cookies, cocoa, and carolers on the evening of the lighthouse lighting. Now you must make a reservation at the hotel restaurant to watch the lighting from this location. The hotel also used to host the local Teddy Bear Suite charity event, but despite being contacted by the event organizers did not pick this back up after the renovation; the event had to move outside for a few years before finding a home this year at the new Faraway Hotel. The sense of community is one of our favorite things about the Vineyard and one of the reasons we keep coming back and plan to eventually move there. So, while it doesn’t affect the actual stay at all, we may look for other accommodations in the future.

Fantastic food and wine 🍷
Great service and setting is first class.
Beautiful view of the light house in Edgartown as the boats sail in or at anchor provides the full experience of fine dining in the Vineyard. The ambience is complimentary to the food, drink and service. This is a must for a great wine list, lamb chops and other delicious dishes… enjoy the experience 😉

On my wife's birthday weekend, we enjoyed a delicious meal with friends at Bettini's on Friday night and lodged at the hotel on the fourth floor - despite the fact that we had a house on the western end of the island to which we could have driven! Dinner was delicious and the service impeccable (no shortage of staff at the HarborView!); a more enjoyable meal couldn't be had.

My wife's impulsive last-minute decision to stay at the hotel that night was rewarded by a facility that is the equal of any luxury resort. We had a very restful night, leaving early the next morning after a perfect breakfast at a window table at Bettini's.

We returned on Sunday for a special birthday brunch, poolside. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, placing umbrellas to provide ideal shade. I enjoyed one of the best (spiciest) bloody mary's ever while others quaffed Mimosas.

As other reviewers have mentioned, don't expect any bargains at the Harbor View - but don't forget that it is the nicest hotel on the Vineyard, a true resort with ALL of the amenities. Truly wonderful!

Answer from Tony Gatto

Hello David C., The pool is indeed seasonal and will reopen at a date, to be determined, in late spring. Best, Tony
Answer from Diana R
Hello People2people, Thank you for your question. The renovations are slated for October until May, 2019. We are renovating both the Victorian (main building) and the Mayhew Building. The hotel refresh will include renovations to the hotel lobby, ocean front restaurants, grand ballroom and event spaces; a refresh of all guest rooms and bathrooms; the addition of a brand-new fitness center; and an upgrade to on-site technology. We are looking forward to having a spectacular hotel re-launch. We hope to have your support as we usher in the New Harbor View Hotel. Kind Regards, Diana Rosure

We had no problems with our AC at any time during our visit in April, nor did we see any bugs or experience odors in our room. We always stay in the main hotel so I can't speak to the state of the outlying buildings. It is my understanding that the hotel will be closed for renovations at the end of the season and I expect that, if problems do exist, any issues will be addressed during this period.

Hello RNA123, Thank you for your message. The Harbor View Hotel is a few steps from The Lighthouse Beach and Fuller Street Beach (800 ft. or a 3-min walk). South Beach is 3 miles from The Harbor View Hotel. Oak Bluffs Town Beach is 5 miles away. The beauty of Martha's Vineyard is that we are surrounded with splendid beaches. We hope to see you soon. The public beach is not walkable (South Beach). It’s about 10 min away by car or longer by bike. But you can walk across the street to the harbor and lighthouse.
