I do not recommend anyone ever staying at Rod N Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach MD. The customer service is horrible. We booked a non-refundable room for our Anniversary. The pandemic has now gotten so bad that the governors have put new travel restrictions in place. I just spoke with Chris as the resort who told me they would not give us a refund in spite of the travel restrictions in place due to the pandemic.
They call it a Spa and Resort, and maybe those services are provided, but really it is just a casino with the rest located around it. The hotel has pleasant views on the north facing side. The plumbing fixtures were a serious problem with low pressure and uncertain pressures.
I travel extensively. I decided to book this “hotel” as a quick get away. First, I booked at 9pm at night, but after reading the reviews, I decided maybe I should cancel and book elsewhere. I called the hotel the very next morning (9am) to cancel. The person I spoke with stated they would cancel the reservation. After hanging up, they called back and left a voicemail stating they have a 72 hour cancellation policy and I could switch to another date. I didn’t understand if that was the policy, why then did person I spoke with earlier, who happened to be the manger had no issue nor mentioned it. Anyway, I decided that the temps were good and we would make the best out of it. I booked a king suite. We checked in without cause. The views were great! We dropped off our bags, spray high touch areas with Lysol and decided to walk around and have dinner before it got too dark. Once we had dinner and made it back to the room, upon entering the bathroom, we noticed how disgustingly dirty the bathroom was. The shower wasn’t cleaned and had hair and mold everywhere. The bathroom floor was dirty and looked as if it had not been mopped or scrubbed in sometime. One of the wash clothes had stains on them. I went downstairs to the front seat to get new towels and to get someone to clean the bathroom. Mind you, it’s around 9-9:30pm at this point. The staff was great. She immediately apologized, got me new towels and stated that the cleaning staff was gone but she would send maintenance up to clean the bathroom. Within 10 min a gentleman arrived cleaned the bathroom and replaced the bathroom with all new towels. It wasn’t perfect but he did the best he could under the circumstances. I finally got to sleep around 2am. The fireplace was a nice touch, very cozy. I woke up at 4am to a bug scampering across the duvet. Afterward, I just ready to leave and couldn’t get back to sleep. The next morning, upon checking out. I spoke with the manager, Glen to inform him of the issues. He listened however, he did not seemed surprised when I mentioned the bug. He said he would refund the room and asked if we were leaving. I said, yes but we had a few things to get out of the room He said he would speak with the head housekeeper and give me a call. He called about 10 min later asking me, why didn’t I inform them that the bathroom was dirty when we checked in. I was taken aback. Why would that even be a question, honestly. Anyways we made it downstairs gave them the keys, the key at the front desk informed me that a refund for a portion of the room would be refunded. I was fine with it and was just ready to get out of there. …
Well I finally caved in to my wife's nagging and decided to tie the knot, though I insisted that we were married only in religious terms because we aren't statist bootlickers who need permission from the state to say that we are married. Anyway, I was very impressed by the beachside views and our room had a balcony and jacuzzi which made the experience so much more pleasant. Dig the glass window into the bathroom. Unfortunately, the nearby water park was shut down for non-residents due to the PLANdemic. However, we still were able to rent boats, enjoy the local fishing, and had great food in their downstairs dining spaces! For those of you who enjoy slots, there's also a casino hall by the bar and on the top level, and they have pull-tab cards, but no table games because Maryland is a castrated state with absolutely no rights.…
Not much open. Beach closed. Waterfront cafe rarely open. Restaurant pretty deserted.Grab n go breakfast was good effort. Board walk area could have been nice. Pier in nice shape . View of Bay was good.
