Detailed Reviews
Had a wonderful family meal in the restaurant last night. Two had the steak pie - it was a proper steak pie with tender chunks of steak in a shortcrust pastry case, one had the gnocchi, one had the cassoulet and I had the linguine, all were beautifully cooked and presented. We all had a starter and then a pudding.
We've been eating there for over thirty years, and I was taking business clients there over forty years ago, and I'd go back again anytime.

The accommodation was spacious, clean and quiet, with lots of plug sockets, very comfortable beds and a great shower.
Our restaurant experience was delicious food, great presentation, friendly and attentive service. Particularly outstanding was the range of gluten free options (my daughter is coeliac), including the best fish & chips ever (very crispy batter, and all reassuringly cooked in a separate fryer) and the most delicious gluten free sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie. The meal was a major success for my daughter who normally struggles eating out with confidence or choice.
Thank you to Caroline (the owner) who made our stay very enjoyable.

An authentically charming place to visit (David Jason’s been there). The staff are friendly, welcoming, accommodating. The owner is such a delight, taking the time to talk to each visiting party/customer with a genuine sense of polite interest. The building itself is invested with individual pieces of local regional culture, make sure to enquire about their historic architectural installation. The food was lovely and charming, the service was personal, polite, accommodating and professional. You are welcomed, entertained without that prolonged unwelcomeness, appreciated and wished farewell upon leaving.
Truly a gem tucked away, worth the drive, worth the visit, def will go again!

Just dined here. Most bizarre experience ever. Very Fawlty Towers.
Had to send back the £3.00 onion rings as they were more like fairground doughnuts than onion rings.
Bizarrely they refused to remove the £3.00, insisting we paid at least £1.00 for them even though they were inedible.
Sad to be that desperate for £1.00
Ignorant grey-haired/beared gentleman completely ignored the situation.
As a result we left no tip and won't be returning. Great commercial decision by The Golden Lion 😂

Came for a day-long meeting. I have a lot of food intolerances and Caroline, her team and the chefs were amazing at accommodating me. Felt very looked after. Food tasted incredible, and was served quickly.
Lovely atmosphere and brilliant conference space

We returned to the Golden Lion today almost 10 years after we held our wedding reception there. We decided to sit outside under the canopy which was lovely and peacefull. The lady in the restaurant was really friendly. The food was delicious, the children's fish fingers were more like mini fish fillets, battered perfectly. The burgers were really tasty.
Definitely recommend the Golden Lion if you want a quiet, relaxed place for lunch. The location is serene, there's plenty of parking at the top of the drive and the patio area is great for lunch. We won't leave it 10 years before we visit again!

We had a lovely meal for a last minute decision to head out on early on a Friday evening. Delicious fish and chips - crispy and crunchy batter and the fish was cooked perfectly. Friendly and welcoming. Thank you.

Short stay of 2 nights at the hotel, parking is great and easily accessible although finding a staff member to check into your room was a little difficult. Room itself was clean but very compact with a small bed I'm lucky I'm only 5ft. The noise level was non existence so great peaceful night sleep. Breakfast I couldn't not fault.

Paige, thank you for your review. Yes, our single rooms with en-suite shower bathrooms are much smaller than our standard rooms, but many guests prefer these as we offer them at a much cheaper rate.

One night overnight stop on business - large room but décor very "heavy" and looked straight from the 80s. Bed was comfortable but I thought price was high compared to a lot of equivalent type country "boutique" pubs/hotels. Breakfast was also rather old fashioned - I don't expect to get the fruit bowl to be straight from a tin these days.

Really friendly welcome, clean and nice sized room.
Food menu had a nice choice and the both the steak and the pie were really delicious.
Nice location just outside of Rugby and Coventry so good choice for a weekend away.
Would definitely come again.

Apologies I have only just seen this question. We only allow guide dogs inside the Golden Lion. Dogs are welcome on our patio and in the beer garden.
There are ground floor rooms and room 111 has disabled access.
Our spa baths are standard sized baths with jets.

Room 121 is on the first floor on the wing closest to the bar and restaurant. I see you have already made a booking for September next year and I read in your notes that you have requested this room. Sandra our receptionist has written DNM which means Do Not Move.
Kind regards
Eleanor
