The location is very accessible. Alona Beach, restaurants, and cafes are all within walking distance. I stayed in their room with 8 beds. Met different travelers. I never thought I'd enjoy making small talk, but I did! So if you're a first-time solo traveler, give this hostel a try. I think they're the only shared hostel in the area. You'll get a lot of tips from other travelers or even tour around with them. The staffs were nice and helpful, especially the manager. They also offer breakfast which was great. It sustained me the whole day since I was traveling around all day. Considering the price, it's really a bang for your buck! Sulit!

stayed here for 4 nights from sept 18 to 22 in a mixed dorm (4bed). initially booked a female dorm but upon arrival, i was informed that the female dorm was converted to an isolation room. would have appreciated if they informed me in advance but not a big deal. beds were of sufficient size, AC was strong, clean room. theres an electric fan too if u dont want to use the AC. lockers outside the room, just bring your own lock. theres light breakfast every morning (bread, oats, sandwich spread, hot water for coffee etc). u may store your food /beverage in the ref . CR was clean enough though theres low water pressure in some stalls. wet clothes may be hanged there too, they have a clothesline set up. frontdesk is ok, approachable but they dont really know much about the trendy restos nearby so just google it up. i saw the private rooms and they are of good size too. all in all, very worth the money i spent. its 5mins walk to alona beach and jollibee/mcdo so located quite central of the area. theres a motor rental across too and habal habal/trike terminal nearby so transpo not a problemโ€ฆ

As someone who is conscious of his travel spending, it has dawned in me that we really do not need much money for us to become a more eco-friendly traveler. And one action I frequently do is by staying at a hostel. Iโ€™ll save for another post the reasons why I love staying at hostels. Moon Fools Hostel caught my attention when I was looking for a place to stay at prior to my Bohol trip. It wasnโ€™t there yet when I last visited Panglao in 2015. Without much information about this hostel, I relied on my instinct that itโ€™s probably one of those few accommodations Iโ€™d love. And boy I was rightโ€ฆ The moment I entered the hostel, I already knew that it was my kind of hostel โ€“ an eco-friendly one. I was happy to have had a great conversation with one of the owners, Mari. That is when I have learned that she and her husband are very passionate about the environment. So it isnโ€™t surprising that the materials used in the construction of their hostel are mostly recycled. It is very admirable as to how they have made use of recycled materials from their curtains (coffee sack) to pillowcases, bedsheet, plastic cups turned into plant pots, lamps from old jars, and even recycled wood materials turned into chairs and tables. Moon Fools Hostel shows that the very essence of recycling is re-using. My stay at Moon Fools also comes with a simple breakfast that you get to prepare on your own. It usually consists of oats, raisins, mallows, some spices like cinnamon and nutmeg plus your choice of drinks (coffee, tea, or chocolate). Plus bananas too! I also like the fact that they have these little ecotourist reminders all over their place โ€“ from the bathroom to the dining area. The local staff of Moon Fools is the usual endearing and respectful Boholano people. During my 2-night stay, I have noticed that I was the only Filipino. What else to expect with Moon Fools Hostel: All rooms have air conditioning. Free WiFi is available from the lounge area to the rooms. The hostel offers airport shuttle services at an extra charge. The hostel has a shared communal bathroom. A 24-hour convenience store, a cafe and a restaurant are found on the 1st floor of the hostel. There are motorcycles and bicycles for rent. Water sports facilities are also available.โ€ฆ

The place is fine no more than that. We took a private room which was great the wifi works great, and the air conditioner works great. Cons - The breakfast is based on real disappointment, the towels cost money and the toilets and shower are not so well maintained and the smell is not good, just for anyone looking for a place to put the gash is a good

The hostel is a 7 min walk from the beach, so the location is ok but not ideal. Staff is helpful but the entire hostel is really dirty, there is dust everywhere on the floor and the bathroom has mold everywhere. The breakfast is DIY porridge and/or toast.

If you're a solo traveler then this place is for you. They have this "Mabu-hi" program every 7 pm where every guest in the hostel needs to introduce themselves which is a way for everyone to know each other. I found not just a home but new friends. They are cheap but their service is way better than I expected. The staffs are nice and accommodating. Hoping to coming back this summer. โ™ฅ๏ธ

Moon fools hostel is definitely the best hostel to stay on Panglao. After staying at a few different places I ended up here & wow what a difference compared to all the other hostels. Moon fool focuses on the environment recycling & upcycling nearly all the interior elements of the hostel. Itโ€™s a refreshing change as here they really take the environment seriously. ROOMS I stayed in two different types of rooms here. The first was the standard dorm that was air conditioned with standard bunk beds, plugs, light & privacy curtain for all beds it was super comfy & the beds where very good. I then moved into the superior dorm now this has individual capsules that give you a lot of privacy the room was airy & had a great air conditioner so I was never to hot in the humidity here. BATHROOMS More than enough showers for everyone in the hostel they have hot water here unlike in other places on the island. Some cool design features like the sinks made from car tyres was a nice touch. COMMON AREAS They had a good sized common room with lots of seating overlooking the main area of the town. This is where you have the free breakfast & free evening cocktails.. SERVICES Defiantly the fastest wifi I seen on the island itโ€™s super strong, has a good speed so for those digital nomads it possible to work from here. They also have bicycle & motorcycle rental with full insurance, free breakfast & free cocktails in the evening.. I have to say that the best part about the hostel was the collection of mostly in-house tours they do from here for a super reasonable price.. LOCATION 5 mins walk from Alona beach set on the main road the hostel is close to all the best restaurants, bars and shops in the town. Just downstairs on the left youโ€™ll find a vegan cafe called Shaka itโ€™s amazing... โ€ฆ

A basic hostel, conveniently located to the quite underwhelming, over-crowed Alona beach. The staff were generally OK, based on minimal interaction. Although when I arrived at lunch time the receptionist made it clear that she was annoyed at me interrupting her lunch by really loudly grunting as she reluctantly got up from the lunch table as I stood waiting at the front desk โ€” definitely the strangest check-in I've ever experienced, and could make some feel quite uncomfortable. On two occasions there was no toilet paper in the toilet, and the bins in the cramped cubicles were often filled with used paper. Towels are not provided in the nightly rate, and the one bathroom that I used seemed to be shared by the entire hostel. The beds have curtains which offer some extra privacy, but the cheap mattress and pillow made for an almost unbearably uncomfortable night. The social area made it easy to meet people, and the hostel is indeed located at the heart of the Alona beach area which has several very average bars, many restaurants, and convenience stores. I found that Bohol and Panglao have a lot more to offer than Alona beach, however. I suggest briefly checking it out, and then moving on to explore the less developed and far more beautiful parts of the two islands (Bohol in particular) โ€” where I also found much better accommodation options!โ€ฆ

Response from Moon Fools H, Manager at Moon Fools Hostel
Responded 28 Oct 2018
First, let me thank you for choosing to stay at Moon Fools Hostel. I apologise for the inconvenience that you experienced with the whole Alona Beach area and for your hostel staff experience. However, we are rated highly in all our online booking partners because of our cleanliness and hostel experience. I do not know what happened but there will always be 2 sides to the story. As for the beddings, we just recently changed our pillows into firmer, fluffier ones. We have also requested for bed replacements for the past 3 months but sadly, customer service is very slow and just acted on it recently. So now we have new beds. Sorry you didnโ€™t get to experience that. We are that popular and rated as the best budget option in the area that in less than 3 years that our premium beds have succumbed to gravity. This just shows how important quality and comfort is to us. We take it very seriously. You seem to be asking too much for a budget hostel in a very expensive place in general. You should have stayed in a hotel. For your information, you are not in Thailand and hostel culture is not popular here in the Philippines esp. here in Bohol. If not for us, you would probably be staying in the most popular area in Panglao for 10x the price that you paid with us. For 600 pesos, you get free breakfast, fiber wifi, aircon rooms, hot shower, unlimited drinking water, unlimited coffee, helpful staff, daily free cocktails, and the most comfortable hostel in the area. So please do not complain about the price. Inflation is so high right now that foreign currency is getting so much more out of the local peso. Please, I suggest you make a research about the place and country that you are staying in before you make all those self-serving, derogatory comments. Anyways, despite of this, itโ€™s been a pleasure hosting you. Thank you for choosing to stay at Moon Fools Hostel. Guests like you will only make us better. Cheers! - Mari, Manager
