A charming and unusual hotel, with rooms with terraces overlooking the pool, and very welcoming staff.

However, a few aspects could be improved: the air conditioning is quite noisy, there is no hot water, and the soundproofing of the rooms is limited, which can make outdoor noise a bit annoying.

Besides, although the hotel says the beach is a 9-minute walk away, the journey is more like 30 minutes (but it’s easy to find a tuktuk to get there).

This review is directly adressed to the management and it’s a constructive criticism so they can improve, it’s not an attack.

We have stayed at the Roman Empire for 3 nights right after new years 2020.

I really liked the pool, some sandwiches I got from the restaurants and the eco and environmental friendly approach of the hotel

Here is a few improvement points I would like to recommend from my point of view.

1. Rooms were nice and clean ( may be a little bit small ) but The AC was weak, may be it is energy saving or something but its not the best AC I experienced.

2. Water leaking in the bathroom
Also water leaking from ac in the balcony.
I usually wouldn’t complain about it, but amount of water was significant
It’s not nice to have a small pond in the bathroom.

3. They have a very nice pool with lifeguards most of the time.
Be careful especially if you have kids, get Parts of pool are not equally deep. It can be potentially dangerous

4. Breakfast options are limited and it looks like they are using the left overs more and it’s Not super tasty as well
Some of the food wasn’t marked and when I asked staff what it is, they don’t seem to know themselves.
So clearly room for improvement here

5. Many many workers in the hotel. Staff seem very bored all the time, you can see them sleeping on the bar, playing with phones and super loudly yawing, which makes you feel uncomfortable. And even if you need napkins or salt you need to go to look for yourself because staff is too busy to be bored.

6. Reception is not very helpful- always seems very confused and lost need to remind and ask same things again and again.

7Location - quite far from the beach, free shuttles going only once per hour . So count extra 100 pesos on the way there and back, every time you need to go to beach, shop or Main Street but that we knew at the beginning when we choose this hotel.

8. The water is not always hot in the shower

9. Bar need to refresh their equipment- when you sitting they bring you dirty sheets on the table.

10. Very noisy You can hear every single word in the corridor from 6am ( so not good if you have planned to sleep longer ). Also they still doing work at some rooms and the noise is all day. So even if you try to sleep during day it is mission impossible.

11. No ventilation in the bathroom except the windows that goes on the corridor

12. Internet signal from poor to not existing in the rooms ( I was in the room 56)

I would stay there again but not for the price I paid ( 120€ per night )
I don’t think Roman Empire Reached this level of services to worth to pay that amount in Philippines.

We stayed twice already in this Hotel. From the opening last 2019 i would positively say thay they have improved.

Personal opinion!

Location: not walking distance from alona beach but has shuttle service every hour. Also close to the airport transfers are easily done via tricycle around the area for 100php.

Positive :
infinity pool with lifeguard on the watch
Room service everyday
Bfast is ok good. restaurant served as well lunch and dinner.
Helpful and attentive service personel.
Clea and secure place.

Negative:
Bathroom has stinking smell from time to time.
Wifi is unstable to none existing
Noise can get in your room especially during high seasons when other asian guest come and tend to be lound early in the morning and late evening.

.For the price we payed we could have gotten better quality qccomodation experience. None the less
Will def coming back and recommend this place but better check for a good price deal.

The area near the entrance to the rooms on the ground floor stunk of drains. The sink was cracked and the bathroom looked unclean and you couldn’t adjust the temperature of the water and it automatically turns off after approx 30 seconds in the shower like they do in swimming pools. We saw a cockroach the second night which we removed, night 3 we were in bed and one crawled onto the bed which was horrendous. Asked to move rooms and asked how we can make sure no more cockroaches so they said they’d move us off the ground floor, we explained we were going out for the day and they said when we got back our bags would be moved to our new room. Arrived later in the day to find out we had been moved to the room next door still on the ground floor, hardly fixing the problem. Complained and eventually got put on the floor above. The hotel is tired and feels dirty and smelly but the pool area is fabulous

I spent 2 weeks in the Philippines and saw only 2 cockroaches, both at this hotel. Makes you question what the kitchen cleanliness is like

This is a decent property with a mega pool as its main high point. For a newer hotel, the maintenance staff is weak when it comes to keeping the fans in the room in working order. The towels are so warned that each one has holes and are so thin you can see through them. The staff is friendly and the food served is good. Will stay here again but stay here with low expectations.

We initially booked for 1 night, but after seeing the hotel, we decided to extend for additional 2 nights. My family enjoyed the room with pool access. The place is decent, quiet, and comfortable enough. Good hotel! Wonderful receptionist!

Hotel full of mosquitoes and cockroaches. The whole environment is not hygienic
Staff wearing flip flops at work. No telephone extension per unit and receptions mobile is either off or cannot be reach. For the price paid, it was not worth it but no choice.

We loved staying in one of the poolside rooms. What a great luxury having the pool just a few steps away! And another plus was that there was plenty of shade because of all the dwarf palm trees. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The service at the restaurant was attentive.
Now the cons: The food was hit or miss. The pan fried fish was delicious, but the pancakes were like rubber. The coffee was a little bitter. And I thought the beers were overpriced. In the room, there was no control of the water temperature. There was very little counter space for stuff. A bath mat was not provided.
Still, a lovely resort and I'm looking forward to going back.

Lovely stay at Roman Empire Resort! Everyone from the front desk, guest services, tour services and restaurant All staff very attentive and well trained. Respectful and quiet not like other resort employee talk very loud. Here they are very discreet and polite. Very nice. It was so easy and convenient to reserve for our stay. They even helped us with our tours ( island hopping tour and countryside tour). Bohol is a beautiful place made even more beautiful because of our wonderful experience here at Roman Empire. Keep it up! Will definitely visit again!
