Me and my partner are very pleased and did not regret choosing Unk's House for our weekend. The place is far from the noise but close to where the action is. The staff and especially the hosts, James and Emma are very accommodating and will go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. They do their best to suggest the best places to eat and even offered to drive us to a Korean restaurant. Unk's also set the standard for free breakfast - viands aren't cut small and amazingly tasty. They also have a very cool rooftop where you can chill and very fast WiFi which helped me finish work early and get to enjoy Alona more. Truly, they're the heart and gem of Alona, Panglao.
I would not recommend this place. It is not nice at all like stated in the reviews.I book this place because of the review but I prefer the other places with the same price. I had better experience in other home stay in Bohol than this. It looks so cheap like tianggi sheets. Orange, Yellow and green colors does not work for me. Really nothing special
Unk's house is a real gem. Super friendly staff and owners, really nice free breakfast and a nice quiet friendly atmosphere. Perfect for the traveler who wants good value, an extremely clean, comfortable place, and a quiet location to get a good night's rest. This is my 4th stay at Unk's house and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for the attributes I mentioned. I've already booked a room for my next two vacations with them.
Not a great experience. I would not recommend this place at all. Wont be coming back. One of the most ugly room ever. Go stay to a nice hotel for comfort. The decor is thumbs down. Spend your money somewhere else
Super friendly and helpful owners and staff. Comfy rooms and good location. Recommended highly!!! Place was clean and spacious. The owners Emma and James were super helpful in booking and advising where to go. Their breakfast caters for all. It is really worth the price.
We stayed for four nights and right from our first day, we knew we would love the place. I arrived not feeling too well and was offered some fresh ginger, lemon and honey tea. After a good nights sleep and a filling breakfast, was ready to start exploring the island. We hired a driver through the Homestay and were taken on a days tour of the island. The cost was 2500 pesos. We enjoyed the tour so much that we hired another to take us to a few ‘secret’ spots recommended by James and Emma. The room we stayed in was well presented and clean. We were apprehensive about the shared bathroom but there was limited other guests using it whilst we where there. Air conditioning worked well and we only experienced one power outage during our stay. Laundry is done onsite and this was 400 pesos for one load. Free tea, coffee and filtered water is provided which is a rarity in the Philippines. Location was perfect for us as not to close to Alona Beach but close enough should you wish to take a stroll. The highlight of our time in Bohol was most definitely the hospitality from all family members at this Homestay. This is a family home and runs as such, with varying generations around the property helping. This adds to the charm of the place as Emma and James have opened up their hearts and home to share with other travellers. Weaving hanging rice baskets with nana, to being taught how to play UNO with Jarrick; each experience was a unique one that we would have not be able to experience had we stayed in a hotel. The girls were all great - special mention to Michelle and Laraina who cooked some lovely dinners for us and were more than happy to help with any requests we had. Emma was also kind enough to share some of her imported special wine from Aussie.......a lovely evening was spent hearing the history of UNK’s and Emma’s time living in Australia. This was a great experience and the guys here are doing a fantastic job. Should I ever return to Bohol, I hope to come and see all the new changes you’ve planned.…
Unk's house is a hidden jewel on Panglao. It is close to Alona beach and quiet. During our 2 weeks trip to Philippines this was the best place we have stayed in. James & Ema's hospitality is amazing. They have simple yet very charming bamboo huts and superior rooms with private bathroom in a brick building. Excellent dive center (Prana in Vanilla Sky hotel) is a 5 minutes walk from the place. The breakfast is excellent and value for money unmatched.
We highly recommend Unk's place. My husband and I spent 2 nights and our hosts Emma and James were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and they had free Wifi and hot water. The women working at the homestay were also very kind and friendly. We had to leave to oslob very early in the morning and they woke up at 6am to prepare sandwiches for us. James gave us very good recommendations for places to visit around Panglao island. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you Emma and James!
Traveling around the Philippines can be hard work and accommodation can be short of acceptable. Rest assured Unks House is a place you would be happy to call home. I was surprised at the level detail in the house, then I met owner Emma and all became clear....she had lived in Oz for 20+ years , so customer service is something she knows is important for the sake of ones business. My room was large, the bedding was not threadbare, pillows large and soft. HOT WATER...a rarity even in hotels. Fresh cooked eggs ,baco, toast and fresh fruit for breakfast ,perfect start to the day. Beer prices pleasing. Laundry done real quick. Warm host and staff always concerned about your wellbeing. I slept really well which is unusual for me A place for social intercourse with fellow travellers away from the chaos of Alona Beach with its booming bars and restaurants. Don't forget Mavis ,the cute little wagging tailed pooch. Credit where credit is due. Thanks !…
Unk's house was one of the nicest homestays we stayed in during our vacation in the Philippines. The host Emma and James are super caring and love to chat with their guests and help organize anything from scooters to trips and they even arranged a private boot for us to take us to Balicasag island. They truely want to make you feel at home in their place and help you make the best of your vacation in Bohol island! I would definitely stay at Unk's house again!
