Our stay was like staying with family. it stood out in our 2 month NZ travel and we'd love to go back. Our son (2 1/2) also loved the animals, the tour, the food and the pool.

thank you Sarah and David !

Just an amazing place to spend time and enjoy the nature in Sarah s and David s wonderful farm and house.
The accommodation and hospitality was excellent in combination with a nice landscape.
l will recommend to family and couples who are looking for an experience close to nature and
an opportunity to look the night sky full of stars.

Stayed here after tedious drive from Auckland. The welcome was outstanding and the hosts could not do more to be helpful. Free range use of the house and an outdoor pool. The accommodation is comfortable although a little remote but therefore exceptionally quiet. Dinner provided was welcome to avoid driving several kilometres to a restaurant and taken with the hosts. The breakfast was a delight as was the company of both the hosts and other guests. A very relaxing location offering peace and tranquillity in comfort. Be quick if you want to stay as the property is sold and the owners are moving later this year.

We had 4 days with Sarah and David at Ashgrove Farmstead. They were excellent hosts. The house and farm were a good place to stay and we very much enjoyed the breakfasts and the two evening meals we had. We felt welcome and comfortable and we enjoyed their relaxed hospitality and we're glad that we stayed with them.

I can't say enough great things about our weekend at Ashgrove. The rooms are beautiful, the games room is sensational, and Sarah and David are the friendliest hosts you could imagine.
We spent our weekend walking around the farm, playing with Freddie the puppy, feeding Bob the sheep, relaxing in the hot tub, jumping on the trampoline, playing pool in the games room, and enjoying a cuppa by the fire.
Can't wait to return!

Absolutely fantastic weekend staying at Ashgrove as a group of 4 friends. The house and farm is stunning - rolling hills as far as the eye can see. The hosts David and Sarah were exceptional. They made us feel welcome from the get-go, and we really enjoyed chatting with them over the beautiful meals they made. After a good long walk around the farm land our group enjoyed some drinks in the hot tub overlooking the hills. We even managed a dip in the pool on a sunny afternoon! The hosts had thought about lots of small things which made the stay truly special. David took us to see the cows being milked and we jumped onto the 4x4 for a trip around the farm. We also fed the local lamb, Bob, and had a great time cuddling their latest addition to the farm, a little puppy called Freddie. Sitting in our own front room with a blazing fire, playing games, pool, and relaxing with a book... couldnt fault Ashgrove! Thanks a million David & Sarah... we will be back!!

My husband, sister, and I had a marvelous time at Ashgrove Farmstay. Our hosts David & Sarah were such gracious and delightful hosts. We learned so much about their farm and the amount of work that goes into milk production. When I booked this location I was a little worried that my sister Vivian wouldn't enjoy it since between the three of us she was very city-oriented. I come from a veterinary background so I knew what was to be expected. Lo and behold my sister was smitten with this place! It was a joy to see her enthusiasm when David gave us a tour of his dairy production and the process it takes to extract milk from cows, manage the herd, and maintenance of the paddocks. David clearly is very knowledgable about the dairy industry at a global level. Had no idea Fonterra was larger than the tourism industry in NZ. Pretty impressive. We had a lovely time socializing with David & Sarah over breakfast which by the way was absolutely delicious. Sarah definitely needs to start her own cookbook and fill it with her amazing lamb rack, cast iron cheese medley, and banana muffin recipes! I'm still drooling over her banana muffins!! I forgot to take some for the road which I was so bummed about! Everything from the rooms to the well manicured garden looked like something out of a fabled storybook. There is plenty of space so having privacy is not an issue. Their dog George and cat Calici was an absolute joy to play with. They too also made our stay that much more enjoyable since we missed our own pets at home. We definitely will be endorsing this place to all our dear friends. The Kauri museum located nearby which was recommended by our hosts is an excellent place to visit to learn about early NZ settlers and their heritage. It also has the largest Kauri gum collection (similar to amber) downstairs! This is a great place to visit for those interested in history. Probably not for little children or teenagers. We all wish we had more time to spend at the farm but all good things must come to an end. Back to work tomorrow! lol Thank you again David & Sarah you both have been so wonderful to us! ~ Joel, Emily, & Vivian

We greatly enjoyed our 2 days with Sarah, David and family. Their hospitality was just fantastic. We occupied 2 cosy and comfortable bedrooms and bathroom in their large, warm house on top of a hill overlooking the complete countryside, including their milk-cow farm units. The children were asked to feed some of the pet sheep. David took us all to the sheep fields, with the farm dogs, and we were invited to see him shear a number of sheep. We also went to see the cow milking in action and we were treated to fresh cow milk! With lots of enthusiasm, David explained everything to us about New Zealand farming and farm life. Sarah prepared the most delicious breakfasts and roast dinner and we were invited to share our meals with them. An extra attraction for our children on top of all this was the cute little farm-dog puppy Bram. Ashgrove Farmstay was to us a very happy, unique and interesting New Zealand experience!

We also thoroughly enjoyed your farmstay and the enthusiasm you had for trying all the farm had to offer - Bram is growing into a fine pup. We know how much you love New Zealand so hope when you have seen the entire country you will revisit Ashgrove! Best wishes for 2014

We were visiting New Zealand's north island from Australia with our two little boys (aged 3 and 18 months). We spent only one night at Ashgrove but we wished it had been more. The rolling green hills are a beautiful backdrop to this home away from home. We had such a lovely time with a delightful home cooked meal and we enjoyed the open fire. The boys slept very well after exploring the farm and visiting the milking shed. I'm so pleased we found Ashgrove Farmstay. Thank you Sarah and David.

Sarah and David Hartles were very accommodating. We stayed for four nights and really relaxed. It was my husband, myself, four-your-old and 6 month baby. David showed my son and husband around a lot of the farm, and Sarah cooked us lovely meals. We chatted with them but also had a private room to relax in as a family. The farm house is set on top of a hill with rolling hills and lovely pockets of bush and lots of farm tracks for walks.

Apologies for the delay - No you do not need flights from Auckland - but you will need a car or a bus ticket from the airport. We can collect you from the main highway 15mins away if you catch an 'Intercity Bus' or The 'Naked Bus' from Auckland Airport. It is much better (quicker and more convenient) to rent a car perhaps from Apex Car Rentals. Allow two hours from the airport to Ashgrove - this will allow for possible heavy traffic depending on your arrival times. I hope this answers your query.
