I was desperate for a place to stay, yet not desperate enough to spend a night sleeping there. There was only one person on staff, and she was part time so she left pretty soon after I checked in. I was the only guest staying there, the front and side doors remained unlocked at all times so who knows who could come in (especially if no staff is ever present). The rooms and hallways were freezing because central heat didn't work, nor did the room fans. Finally when I got back from dinner and was trying to convince myself I could stay overnight and be fine, my door start rattling on its own like someone was trying to open it. No one was there. Pretty sure that place is haunted and I don't even believe in ghosts. I threw all of my stuff on top of one suitcase and just dragged it down the hall and stairs (elevator didn't work and water was dripping in it), to get to my car in one trip so I could leave that place as quickly as possible.

We made reservations online for 2 nights. We arrived, but no one was there to check us in. After waiting OVER 2 hours, we left and went to another hotel. We were still charged on our credit card, and STILL have not been able to get a refund! No one will answer the phone when you call. We are from out of state, so can't just stop in to address the issue. Supposed to be new Mgmt, spoke with him once and he was very nice, but that was over 2 weeks ago and STILL haven't received the refund.

Staff is WONDERFUL! Hotel is clean, quiet, and so comfortable. Location is within walking distance to several places to eat, stores, library, and museums. Just walking through the town is a treat! Hotel has that old world charm you just don't get any more. Staff made our stay a pure joy! We hope to return soon!

this hotel is promoted as a renovated classic old hotel. In fact the property has been through many owners and has not succeeded in recovering its glory. Renovations were not well done and a shabby appearance is disappointing. visitor reviews are not to be believed. although clean, no staff other than the desk clerk was seen and then not 24/7. Ice machine only in the lobby of this 7 story property. Bathroom was clean but showing age and multiple coats of paint chipping and peeling. Travelers expecting at least some effort of recovering lost glory will be disappointed . Downtown location is no plus. Little in way of cafes. although some reservation sites mentioned free breakfast, there was none or any other refreshment. Extended stay seems to mean week long stays or more for construction and contract workers for industry in the town. It does not mean suites with kitchenettes as offered by many brand name companies( none in town, however. Un fortunately for city fathers, better accommodations are found on edges of town around new through highway.

Mr. Cronin, We have staff on-site 24 hours a day but not just sitting in the hotel office during that time. Simply picking up the phone at the front desk if no one is sitting there will have someone there typically within 30 seconds. I'm sorry the remaining 2 days of your non-refundable, discounted online reservation were not able to be refunded after you found a vacancy available in Iola on the 2nd day of your visit. We would have been happy to let you check out early if you had made the reservation through my hotel directly, you have up until 5pm to cancel. But at the time of your requested early check-out you said you had no complaint about our facility, only about the internet site that sold you the non-refundable stay. You said you were leaving because you had finally found a hotel vacancy in Iola which was where the class reunion you were attending was being held and your wife didn't like driving back and forth to Chanute. We told you to contact the web company but you waited until 2 days AFTER your scheduled check-out to try to get a refund from them. Of course they wouldn't. So as you promised, here is your one star review - and this is the one not to be believed! Even your claim of "little in way of cafes" downtown is absurd. In downtown Chanute there are these restaurants within TWO blocks of the hotel: Grain Bin (a cafe serving breakfast and lunch), Playmakers (a sports bar across the street from the hotel), Great China (serving Chinese), Opie's (pizza, fried chicken, and buffet), Cardinal Drug (soda fountain and lunch cafe) and a coffee shop. If you venture more than 2 blocks there are several more within walking distance. I have owned this historic hotel since 2004 and prior to your one star review had received more than 50 reviews averaging 4.5 stars since I converted to the extended stay concept in 2014. Of course those are all legitimate reviews! We have 5 free laundry facilities, one on each floor, and some of our units have a kitchenette at no additional charge (subject to availability). We provide the area's best value whether staying one night or months. We are not always the cheapest but are a long ways from being the most expensive. We do not hide the fact that the hotel was built in 1929 and for most people that's great! It's unfortunate that you chosen to vent your frustration on my locally-owned, family business instead of the international online booking agency that provided you a discounted rate with the non-cancellation restrictions you willingly agreed to. I hope you will re-direct your anger where it is appropriate and consider this the next time you book a non-refundable/non-cancellable discounted reservation. Todd Johnson, Proprietor

This was a seriously COOL old downtown hotel. I could only imagine it during its hayday. The staff treated us with old-school hospitality and kindness...it honestly felt like we were staying at a friend's place. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, and breakfast was good. What more can you ask for? Oh, and there was a lovely sitting patio outside...we didn't stay long enough to barbecue, but some guys were grilling (delicious smelling) brats and said the hotel provides those two grills for guests. How cool is that?! It's almost BBQ season, and their's was nicer than mine, so I might be stopping back in. Lol. Stay at the Nest if you're in Chanute! You won't regret it.

Historic place. Our room was comfortable and clean, we liked the room. Shower very small, and water leaked on floor because the shower curtain wasn't long enough. We stayed two nights. Housekeeping came in 2nd day there, gave us one clean towel, took the tip we left, and that was ALL they did. We were out of the room most if the day, returning around 4:00 to get ready for an evening event. We called the manager, he brought up more towels, coffee packet etc. So it was made right, but it bothered me.

I'm sorry you were bothered by your experience at my hotel David. Most of the hotel units have tubs with shower but a couple of them have just the small shower. I can see how the curtain might lift over the edge if it was bumped because it was only hanging down inside about an inch, so we lowered the bar holding the shower curtain on those rooms. For a few weeks my housekeeping staff had been working together in the same room rather than each being responsible for doing rooms individually which is our policy. This caused some "oh I thought you did that" moments until we figured out what was going on, which caused issues with some of our "stayover guests" like you experienced here - but I believe we have that rectified. I hope you will give us a chance sometime. As is noted on your receipt when you checked in and posted on the wall of your room, if you ever have anything less than a 5 star experience please call my cell phone listed there immediately. Thank you for your feedback! - Todd Johnson, Proprietor
