Hotel's Favorite
A great Hilton Garden Inn! It seems like it was very recently renovated - the hotel was very clean and up to date. My room overlooked downtown Evanston - it was spacious and the bed was comfortable. A great restaurant on the first floor with some to go meals as well. A huge farmers market happens behind the hotel every Saturday. Northwestern is a 10 minute walk straight down the road. When I’m in the area again, you’ll find me here.
PS: the staff was awesome - probably the nicest and most professional I’ve ever encountered at any of the Hiltons I’ve stayed at!

This is definitely one of the top scorers in my experience of Hilton hotels. We were readily assigned two connecting rooms and were able to check in early by paying the 30-dollar early check-in fee which made a big difference to our comfort level. The rooms were large, spacious, comfortable, and discreetly tasteful, with unobtrusive but efficient housekeeping. The hotel's location makes it ideal for just about everything one may want to do in Evanston: explore the downtown area or pop into its stores, cafes and restaurants, visit the huge World Market right opposite, walk to Northwestern University, stroll along the lakefront, visit the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings... The staff at the Front Desk were always warm and helpful. Evanston (Northwestern University) was a familiar stomping ground once, and it was very nice to be back and have something like this hotel to stay in while we reconnected with former friends and colleagues.

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Evanston for my daughter’s 7th birthday, along with our younger daughter who is 5. We wanted to stay somewhere that had a pool, restaurants/shops/nightlife accessible and also close access to the beach. We found all of this when we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn! I really can’t say enough great things about this hotel. First: the location. It’s situated one block away from downtown Evanston, one of the best neighborhoods in the state of IL. There are limitless things to do and places to eat with the kids. Second: the hotel staff. They were so kind and accommodating! Cathy at the front desk knew it was my daughters birthday, wished her a happy birthday, and gave both my daughters a free treat to celebrate. There was always a staff member around to help, from someone servicing the pool to the guy that helped me get complimentary coffee in the lobby. Just a pleasure! They were so helpful and happy to help, I got the sense of being part of one big family while we were staying there. Third: the room. It was so clean with so many thoughtful component included to make our stay more comfortable. The were communications posted throughout the room notifying us of when/how the room was sanitized. All the complimentary toiletries were upscale and there was enough for my whole family. There’s just so many positive things about this hotel, a true gem, if you are looking for something in this area, it’s everything you are looking for and more.

Picked the hotel due to proximity to NWU and positive things about city of Evanston (vs Chicago downtown) along with the great reviews here. However, my experience with check-in was the worst I've had maybe in 5 years (I read these type of reviews online and can't believe it but I guess it happens). On arrival, I asked about my Diamond benefits but instead of providing them, Al told me to check my account and figure it out myself (surprising as I know what the app says but many hotels have varying benefits). I walked over to the dining area myself to ask about my food/bev credit and the person told me I needed to ask the front desk for vouchers. I went to front desk and Al said he didn't know and then went to consult someone who told him that Diamonds didn't need the vouchers but would get an adjustment on check-out (again, not knowing the amount).
I got a lower floor room so I asked as Diamond if I could get higher floor and he said that they were too busy and sold out (on the online check-in in the morning, I saw dozens of rooms to choose from including top floor so I think he just didn't want to bother).
I'll keep it at 2 stars instead of 1 because the hotel itself was okay - because it was low floor I also happened to have a 'connecting room' door which I try to avoid precisely for the reason that we heard our neighbors talking like they were in our bathroom, so not soundproof (understandably most of these doors have this issue so we try to avoid them, but front desk didn't even offer any choices).
Breakfast was good, though - they provided fast service and a good meal.
Parking is next door (you can self-park for $18 or go through HGI for a little bit more [$24 on their website]) --- note that Evanston has zero street parking 3-6am each night, so garages are necessary. At the same token, because they are required and it's also the hotel's garage parking, there were many cars there overnight and it felt safe to leave your vehicle overnight there.

We can't say enough good things about our hotel experience. The staff members are great! Very helpful with check-in, information about the area, arranging a taxi for us one night, and answering our questions. The location couldn't be better. Just a block to the downtown area. We didn't have a car this time and really didn't need it with everything within walking distance, or an inexpensive Uber, and a few blocks to the CTA transit system. Parking was certainly available. We never did eat at the hotel, as we found lots of good restaurants nearby. Particularly Egg Harbor down the street which has great breakfasts. Our room was spacious, well appointed, with a nice bathroom in size and amenities. Daily housekeeping! They have working washers and dryers on site. The area is safe and actually very nice. A farmers market is every Saturday just behind the hotel. We will be back next year and this will definitely be the place we will stay.

We ended up not staying here but wanted to. We just couldn’t find a good fit for us in Evanston or at this hotel so we cancelled our reservation. This hotel is a bit rundown on the outside. The parking garage you park in and the entrance to the hotel from that garage are a bit sketch and totally smelled like weed. I think the rental car company shares an entrance / space with the hotel so it was just a really odd experience parking and checking in. The inside of the hotel is fairly nice but the room itself was just too run down for us. Also, the corner suites have big floor to ceiling windows but note - these windows face out to the road and are very public so if you want privacy, I’d try for a different room. We did look at a couple other rooms but they were just not updated and all had terrible views overlooking parking lots. It was also odd when from the road we could see people’s clothes hanging from the curtain rods in the windows. It gave it a bit of an odd first impression. All in all, it wasn’t a good space for us but it could be a good spot for someone who is not bothered by the things I mentioned as it does offer a good walkable location downtown with parking. We ended up choosing to stay elsewhere and outside of Evanston altogether. Evanston is such a beautiful upscale town. I just wish they had a nicer Hilton hotel that matched the town’s overall level.

Overcharged. Policy online said a 1 time fee for a pet of $75. We stayed 3 nights are were charged 4x. When I called to ask for a refund, the man on the phone said that it was a error with the system and that he'd have to talk to his manager. This all seems very scammy.

Management did not provide the service requested on numerous requests, especially to clean our room during our 6 day stay at this hotel. Management did not offer to compensate us for not honoring our request and tended to blow off our complaints. I would not recommend this hotel.

By the title of this review, I cannot stress enough how clean this hotel smells. First impression of a hotel should always be the smell when you first through and then noticing how tidy the area lobby is. The worker was very helpful and the room was comfortable and CLEAN!

If you take the 250 Pace bus from O'Hare Airport ($2.25) it drops you off at the Davis CTA Station about one block away from this nice hotel in Evanston, IL. From there you can ride transit to pretty much anywhere in Evanston and Chicago. The hotel is clean and nice with big rooms. Northwestern University, Clark Street Beach, Noyes Cultural Arts Center and lots of shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Yes there is in and out privileges when you pay for the nightly parking charge at the hotel.
We had a long hallway and could view the tv easily from both the bed and the chair.
This hotel is in Evanston, which is north of Chicago. Museum campus, as it is called, is south of the loop. If you have a rental car or Uber, this would be an OK location, but about 35 minute drive south. Evanston itself is a lovely place to visit, home of Northwestern University. Lots of fine restaurants and shopping. Chicago hotels can be expensive along "Miracle Mile" area. If you plan your trip and start early, this is a good location. Use the "L" subway as much as possible to save money and time. Just no easy public transportation to Aquarium and Field Museum. Science and Industry Museum a classic, but further south. Do not forget Chicago History Museum - formerly Chicago Historical Society on Clark Street and North Avenue. Wonderful museum. Sorry for the delay, just saw this question.
I do not remember. I was not looking for one.
We have a local shuttle (2 mile radius) that runs Monday thru Friday from 6:00 am to 10pm.
