The Silversmith Hotel Chicago Downtown is celebrated for its cleanliness, with numerous travelers commending the spotless rooms and commendable housekeeping. It's situated in a prime spot that guests love for its accessibility to local attractions and transit. The attentive and friendly staff often receive positive remarks, though there are occasional mentions of service inconsistencies.
While the rooms are generally comfortable and the hotel atmosphere strikes a balance between classic and contemporary, some guests suggest the rooms could benefit from an update and a quieter ambiance, particularly due to noise from the nearby 'L' train. Opinions on value are mixed; some guests appreciate the fair pricing and location, while others point out the decor could use a refresh and additional amenities might enhance the overall experience.

Hotel's Favorite
This is a BEAUTIFUL HOTEL with spacious rooms, with comfortable beds and refrigerator. Even better is the exceptionally,
Friendly and patient staff. Many praises to Ms. BEVERLY at the front desk who went ABOVE and BEYOND for me, when I arrived, I was hoping for an early check-in as I was sick, tired, and had few other issues. She remained calm, patient, and compassionate. Even though all my issues weren't easily resolved, she showed me nothing but compassion and sensitivity. Her patience and kindness during my challenges encouraged me to believe there are still kind people amongst us. I am forever thankful she was there for me on that day. This is now my Hotel of Choice when I return to Chicago. I definitely recommend staying here. It's close to any and everything, and you will have a great stay. I appreciate the complimentary water too.

We went to Chicago in April to see Hamilton and chose The Silversmith for our stay. Form the moment we arrived, to the last step out of the hotel, we loved our stay. We arrived prior to check in time and upon arrival, the woman at check in shared that there were rooms available, however, she suggested that we wait until check in time to secure a better room. We were glad that she shared this with us and went to grab a quick bite to eat. When we came back and checked in, we were given a great room on the back side of the hotel that was completely quiet.
The toiletries were excellent with an extra special touch of a exfoliating mitt, which was a first. The bathroom is very well lit and the decor and bedding were soft grays and white. It was very relaxing. The room many have been a bit on the small side, however, the ceilings were very tall which really gave the room a larger feel.
We definitely enjoyed our stay here, especially the very close proximity to the CIBC theater, which is where Hamilton was playing. If you want to stay in the theater district of Chicago or South Loop area, this boutique hotel is a great choice!

This hotel is just steps away from the main gardens/parks, from the Chicago river and from all the subway/ "L" lines - one couldn't ask for a better location. Anastasia at the front desk absolutely charmed us with her welcoming personality. We only saw her once, but she left an unforgettable impression. Sweet amazing Irvin was there pretty much every day making sure we had everything we needed during the temporary housekeeping restrictions (due to COVID19). The room looked spacious and classy with a large bathroom, the softest pillows, two TVs and a little extra rest area (Anastasia just gave us a little upgrade as it was available). I am also very grateful to this hotel's management for allowing us to easily change the dates of our trip. We had a non-refundable booking, so technically they could have refused, but in light of earlier travel restrictions they were very understanding and accommodating.

Stay anywhere but here. This place is a dump. First of all it smells bad. Housekeeping never came to our room even after we had stayed there for a full day and night. We came back fro a day out in the city and no one had been there.
Second, when I asked for late check out (just an hour was all I wanted because my brother was leaving later than I was), I was told a strict no. The front desk person I dealt with went on to say that if I did get it I would have to be charged and this was standard policy in most hotels. I travel a lot and I've stayed in much much nicer hotels than this. I assure you, that is NOT standard policy. I have never been charged for late checkout nor ever even heard of anyone who has.
Third (and most importantly) the toilet overflowed in our room. It was disgusting. Our clothes that were on the floor were soaked in dirty toilet water. We took the top off the toilet to get the water from coming out. Now this alone would not be a thing to be upset about. Things happen. But we never got an apology. Not once. And we were told to use the lobby bathroom and they never offered to move us to a new room or comp a night or even drinks at the bar. Nothing. And to make matters worse we were even blamed for it. They said the water was seeping down in to the room below us and we shouldn't have tried to "fix" it. We never tried to "fix" it in the first place. We just had to get the water to stop coming out! And the fact that your dump hotel has bad plumbing and its seeping into the room below? That says way more about your dump hotel than I can. The customer service was attrocious.
Avoid this place at all costs. we only stayed here because we wanted to be close to the theaters. It's a total dump and just abysmal customer service.

The staff is exceptional!! An heartfelt thank you Kenshia, Beverly, Enrique and another young lady who worked last night (9/7) - you looked out for me and were the cream of my trip!! The hotel room was beautifully updated and clean. Unlike many hotels fresh towels were restocked daily without requesting, as well as a couple bottles of water. This hotel is a historic treasure in a prime location within the loop being only a few feet from the L-train station making it very convenient to travel from Midway on the orange line. Everything you are looking for is nearby - stores, restaurants, Michigan Ave are close. When traveling to Chicago this is my destination to stay. Kudos to the entire staff!!

Centrally located on South Wabash the Silversmith Hotel is a nice boutique hotel with a personable staff, spacious rooms, and clean facilities. Located a few blocks from the Art Institute of Chicago and Millennium Park, and right next to the Chicago Transit Authority’s elevated lines in “the loop,” the hotel is ideally located for both business and tourists alike.
Keep in mind that if you stay for more than one evening there is no daily housekeeping due to pandemic restrictions—I had no issues during my 3-night stay. I enjoyed my stay but would caution perspective customers to bring ear plugs, otherwise the noise from the constant trains passing by will be difficult to sleep through.

ElTouristo61, Thank you so much for for sharing your review and comments with us! We sincerely appreciate all feedback as it helps us improve the service and accommodations we provide to all our guests. We're very happy you enjoyed your guestroom and that our staff took great care of you. Thanks for mentioning our fantastic location in the heart of the Loop! Regarding the train, all windows on the Wabash Avenue side of the building have been fitted with an additional soundproofing window. On your future stays with us, please let our staff know you would prefer a room in the back section of the hotel and we'll be sure to make that happen. Again, thanks for all your feedback! I was lucky to stay at the Silversmith in Downtown Chicago for four nights while attending a sales conference. The hotel room was really comfortable, spacious, with an excellent bed, and in spite of the hotel being located right inside the Loop with constant train traffic, I could barely hear anything from my room! Every member of the staff were always helpful. Both Makrand, whom I spoke with while making the booking over phone from India, as well as Abin, who checked me in when I arrived, were extra nice, professional and efficient. Abin even gave me a coupon for a pizza place without me asking for anything, which was very kind of him. The best thing about the hotel might be the location. Downtown Chicago's most incredible architecture is right there when you step out. As is the Millennium Park and the Art Institute. Every kind of public transportation is at your door. The hotel is of course not inexpensive, but it is excellent value for money! I'm sure I will stay here again when I'm back in town. Highly recommended.

The staff is by far the friendliest I have encountered at a hotel in a long time. Unlike many hotels since COVID that only clean your room at checkout or at your request housekeeping made sure we didn't need anything if we left our do not disturb sign on the door if they saw us in the hallway. I had an issue with the deadbolt not working on my door and they sent someone up right away to fix it. The rooms have a keurig coffee maker and they provide free bottled water as well which is a nice touch. Some of the furniture was a little worn but the room was very clean. The location was great, right on the CTA line. The drinks at the bar were good. Parking rates seemed a bit high but there are plenty of other options nearby if you are looking to save money. I highly recommend this hotel.

The staff here are so helpful and me friendly. Anastasia took time to help orientate us and gave great recommendations.
Our room was super comfortable with a great bed and lovely linens. The bathroom is a great size too and extra special with Molten Brown products.
I asked for a quiet room and it really was - I never heard one door bang or any voices in the corridor.
The location is great- everything is walkable.
Thanks for a great stay Silversmith. We particularly enjoyed the pizza at Lou Malnatis - a great recommendation from Anastasia.

Taking into account the price and level of Hotel I wish there were 3.5 stars, I can't say "Very Good" but "Average" is a bit lower than I would say. I would say the stay was as good as expected. I'll break into pros and cons with my caveats this is an older property renovated so its not new and you can't expect it to be modern.
Traveled 4 days late December with the goal to see museums and do some walking about the city with myself and my teen. Our room was basic 2 doubles and small, can't comment about the other rooms and size we were just looking for the cheapest rate with 2 beds. Traveled with a teen and we are both active so our location was good for us and the walking, might not work for those who may be less mobile or willing to take public transit.
Location Pros
On Wabash by Theaters and Millennium Park and Lakefront Drive and Art Institute. We were able to walk to Field and Shedd museums and up to the Gold Coast/Lincoln Park. The #6 Bus came 2 blocks over to take us to the MSI and the Blue Line is 2 blocks over on Dearborn to and from O'Hare and the L is right there. Plenty of restaurants around we went to 3 right by us.
Location Cons
It is literally under the L - if having a train running around you is going to bother you this is not your location. Also this part of Chicago is not the safest at night, might not want to wander around after 9pm - but its never been the best part of town.
Room Pros
Pricing was reasonable, 2 beds were comfortable enough, slept well, hotel was quiet (except for the L but that doesn't bother us). We had one of those air purifiers in the room so that was nice white noise. Window opened so we could have fresh air, they had turned off the AC so it was a bit stifling in there if we hadn't been able to get the window open. We like to sleep in the cold air so there is that. Others might not care.
Room Cons
Needs a refresh. Bathroom was a bit shabby and needs a solid cleaning. Rugs are worn, and paint is old. The room was in the middle so very dark. The Open Key on my phone worked for my room but not the elevator so still needed a hard key.
Amenities/Service Comments
Has a full service restaurant and bar which can be nice and they have a happy hour for drinks during the week that makes it reasonable, its a bit pricy outside happy hour. Ordered one dinner it was fine nothing great. But it was available.
Fitness room was clean but basic and missing any kind of mat for stretching/core/yoga. Major bummer.
The weekday staff was very helpful, weekend staff seemed a little bored and not as helpful they were not really interested in service it seemed. Oh well.
Daily housekeeping was available and they did a good job.
Did not park or use a meeting room or valet.
