The Millennium Hotel Knickerbocker Chicago comes highly recommended for its cleanliness and prime downtown location, a stone's throw away from numerous attractions. While the hotel's vintage-modern charm and the friendly demeanor of the staff frequently receive compliments, some guests have mentioned issues with inconsistent service and cleaning times.
The rooms are a mix of modern comfort and occasional signs of wear, and guests should be aware of additional fees that may affect the overall value. Despite this, the nostalgic atmosphere often makes for a pleasant stay.

Detailed Reviews
I upgraded to a really large corner room with a view out onto the street in front, Well worth the extra money. I walked in and the entrance is separated from the bedroom.with a large beautiful bathroom to the right, a table to put things on in the middle, and a closet and nice dressing area to the left. The bedroom has two large windows giving lots of natural light and the deco and modern furniture gives the feel of slick nostalgia. Everything was very tasteful and well thought out. The mattress and linens on the bed were of really high quality. The temperature of the room was easy to maintain with the thermostat. The bathroom had a tub with a rain shower, or you could use a hand held wand sprayer. The location is great since it is half a block from Michigan Avenue and one block from the best beach on Lake Michigan. The Front Office Manager, Candice, was very helpful with answering all my questions and suggesting places to eat and shop. She went above and beyond to help with anything we needed. I will definitely go back for the "old world charm" and feeling of history and nostalgia you get at a luxury hotel like the Knickerbocker.

I stay at this property each time I am sent to Chicago for business and overall it’s a nice enough place to stay.
It’s location is it’s best asset. It’s located just off Michigan Avenue and it’s a very short walk to a wide range of stores and restaurants. Some Chicago attractions such as the Willis Tower or Millennium Park can be a long walk away but you can always jump on public transport.
The hotel is within an old building and it can be rather dark and dull. The rooms are on the smaller side, but big enough for me by myself. The showers always have good pressure and the in room temperature control always works well. The beds are comfortable however there is always quite a bit of road/outside noise. The view from the rooms isn’t great, but that’s what you get for being in a good location.
The hotel staff are ok. Each trip I encounter someone being rude/blunt or sarcastic and on the whole, they aren’t very helpful at all. However, the men that work on the door/curb and lobby floor are always welcoming, friendly and pleasant. Perhaps they should get them to train the front desk. The house keeping staff are also great at keeping the rooms and public spaces clean and neat.
I stay here as it’s the most convenient for my work and it’s price is competitive, however it’s not the greatest of hotels.

My husband and I stayed here on our trip around Canada and the US, I loved Chicago especially the river running thru the middle, even on the coldest wettest days there, I just wanted to go out and explore.
The hotel (although they didn't advertise it) catered for gluten free, in fact you pretty much ask for what you want. They made great omelettes although if you asked they did scrambled or poached eggs too. There is a little food store on site, with a microwave so you can heat shop bought food, a cafe etc. Some floors had little areas you could sit in for a break from your room, it was clean and tidy and the doorman and bag handlers were very helpful (just make sure you let the bag man carry your bag he stresses out if you don't) although he was very helpful and once in our room with our bags he gave a complete run down of the hotel and the area

This hotel is located in A very upscale area so you would think that the hotel would be a reflection of the area. I would have to say that it is anything but ambulant. I should have known when I was signing a form saying that if I checked out early I would be paying them $100 for an early checkout. With the pandemic Chicago is decimated, hotels are closed, there is no dining anywhere, so it's really a terrible situation. However this hotel is not one anyone should think about staying. I smelled smoke in the room, the bed could not have cost more than $99 with the old coil springs that are old and warned and you hear them every time you turned popping and jabbing you. So needless to say you will not get a good night sleep. Even sitting on the bed is uncomfortable because of all the Springs jabbing you in your buttocks. There is no bathtub to soak your buttocks and back after a long night of agony. The refrigerator didn't work when I arrived the cabinet to the refrigerator is broke they did give me another refrigerator which I will take a picture of it so you can see the quality that you're getting from the hotel. This is just an all-around horrible experience. I'm not sure if I can take the next 2 days maybe if I sleep in the chair it might be better. Clearly not a good Christmas and a horrible place to stay. It is in no way a 4-star hotel I would sincerely give it a 2-star and that's being generous. I'm also concerned that the comforter has not been washed. There is new linen and the comforter is sandwiched between the linen creating a deceptive look that the bedding is clean and new. For a portion of the night I thought that the smoke I was smelling was from the pillow now after Morning Has Come and daylight has presented itself it's clear that the comforter was most likely the reason for me smelling cigarette smoke all night. The room and the decor is adequate. But considering we're living in a pandemic time I would want to feel that my comforter as well as my sheets were changed. I would also like a bed that I can sleep in without pain and listening to coils pop all night. Please take a look at the pictures of the broken door and the quality of a refrigerator. I wish I could give you pictures of the coils popping from the bed but unfortunately that can't be filmed.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for our 2nd anniversary. It looked like a lovely hotel from the pictures so I thought my girlfriend would love it. Big mistake! Getting the hotel on the phone was a nightmare. When I called to confirm the reservation I got no answer twice and when I finally did get through i had to wait 20 minutes to do so. Even when we were in the hotel it took several tries to reach the front desk.
The hotel also does not have individual a/c units and since it is winter, the heat in the hotel was cranked all the way up. When we contacted the desk, they sent someone up to put a wood block in the window to prop it open...you either get very hot or very cold in the room. It was extremely uncomfortable.
Also do not plan on using the elevators. We waited at least 5 minutes each time going up or down. It would have been quicker to walk down all 8 flights which we would have done if we weren't going out to our anniversary dinner just before/after.
On top of all of this we were charged an additional "Resort" fee. I contacted the hotel later in the week and they told us it was for "coffee, tea, and using the facilities"...We drank no coffee or tea the entire time and the only facility we used was the room we played for. The staff said there was nothing they could do. Bad service in my opinion.
What was supposed to be a fun night in Chicago for our anniversary became an absolute headache. I wouldnt reccomend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Chicago. There are far better options with better service elsewhere.

I recently stayed 5 nights at this hotel, i would like to inform people looking to stay here, the FREE internet advertised at this hotel actually costs you $15 dollars per day. you will find this out when they and you a bill for facility fees for each day of your stay.this is what happened when i checked out, when you ask what the fee is for, they say it is to pay for the internet coverage, even though they say it is FREE and when you log on to the hotel internet it also states it is FREE. Come on Millenium Hotels stop treating guests this way, if you want to charge $15 dollars per day per room at least let the customer know. you let yourselves down

Once we arrived checking in was efficient and easy. We stayed in the Superior Double Room. The room was spacious and very clean. My favorite feature in the room was the ceiling shower head. The hotel followed Covid-19 protocols with guest wearing mask, providing hand sanitizer, adhering to physical distancing, and allowing limited guest to use the elevator at once . Jason, the manager, professionalism and attentiveness was superb! He wanted us to have the best experience at the Millennium Knickerbocker! This was an amazing location to relax and explore the great city of Chicago!

My fiance and I booked a room at this hotel back in June of 2020 for February 2021. We specifically chose a room rate that allowed for free cancelation because we weren't sure what the COVID situation would be. In December 2020, we decided to cancel our trip, because the pandemic was still raging. It is now February 19, 2021, nearly two months since our cancelation confirmation went through, and we have yet to get our money back. Every time we call to inquire, we are told to call back between 10pm and 6am. When we do that, we are told that the money is on its way. After about 20 rounds of this game over the past two months, we still have not received the money back. At this point, the hotel is essentially robbing us blind. We are seriously considering legal action at this point!

Upon checking in after a long day of travelling, we were allocated our room, which hadnt been prepared. Beds unmade, bins full, floors dirty. Reception apologised and allocated us another room. The safe did not work and there was no fridge present, not ideal when you're staying a few days. We raised the issues with Reception who put a call into maintenance about the safe and informed us the fridges we're currently locked in the cupboards due to them being upgraded. The safe was not repaired or replaced in the 4 days we stayed.
Using the shower, the extractor fan would rattle on start up and cut out, and the the bath tap which would direct the water flow between either the shower head or the bath was faulty, so when showering the water would often stop and start flowing from the bath tap.
The 4 days we stayed not once was our room cleaned or attended to by a maid, which led to overflowing bins in our room. The sign was left out each day for the room to be attended to, but had no effect.
Our last day our flight was not until late evening, so on check out we asked to leave our bags with the concierge to make the most of our last day in Chicago. We were informed we could not do this due to staffing issues, therefore cutting our trip short and having no option but to head to the airport with our luggage and wait out our last day there.
Upon checking in we were informed resort fees had been covered by the 3rd party we booked with. On the second day we noticed several changes for different values on the bank card. We queried this, and were informed that all amounts would be refunded, again telling us resort fees had already been covered. Around a week after checking out one payment had cleared and not been refunded. We contacted the hotel to be told this charge was the resort fees. We tried to argue to the case but they simply were not interested.
For a hotel in an indeal location it is let down by a number of factors. There are far more hotels in the surrounding area, and personally Id suggest staying in one of these and avoiding numerous problems here.

We really like this hotel. The rooms are spotlessly clean and fresh, the beds are comfortable, the linens pressed and the towels are fresh & fluffy. Combined with the prime location on the North side just across from The Drake, just one block from Michigan Ave makes this the ideal hotel for a visit that enables shopping, restaurants and sight seeing. Like most hotels, many amenities have been shuttered, but The hotel is very competitive priced. Note: They do add a daily $15 “Covid” fee to the bill, but it still a very reasonably priced for the value.

Hi,
I was there in the summer and the air conditioning worked well and was not noisy.
Take an Uber or Lyft (from dep level) or taxi (from arrival/ baggage claim level). Both are fine. Depending on the time you arrive the ride shares may surge in price. Expect it to cost about $ 45 to $60 for normal rates.
There is a train from airport to the city ( cheaper option) , but it will not get you anywhere close to this hotel. You will have to get a cab once you get off the train so if you carrying luggage around its best to get an uber or taxi from the airport.
