This is obviously an old hotel but seems to have been recently renovated. The bathroom, though it's about the size of a cruise ship bathroom, had new fixtures and conveniences including a sensor that turns the light on automatically when you enter, and a Bluetooth enabled speaker in the mirror. Storage space was adequate, and the rainfall shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The bedroom has just enough space for a bedside table on each side of the king size bed, and one leather chair. The mattress was a bit squishy, and the yellowed, thin, lumpy duvet is just covered with 2 flat sheets, and definitely looked like it needed to be laundered or replaced. The huge tv is good quality, though somewhat oversized considering the square footage of the room. Our 5th floor room on the 8th Street side was quiet, though we didn't have much of the "city view" that had been advertised. We weren't informed, nor were there any signs indicating that the room is not serviced every day. I had to ask for the espresso machine supplies to be replenished. We only had service once during our 4 night stay. I don't need fresh towels and sheets every day, but they could at least replenish supplies and empty the waste baskets. The attached Grant Park Bistro is not operated by the hotel, so you can't charge drinks or meals to your room. The room was comfortable enough and the location was perfect for our visits to the museums, Grant Park, Millennium Park, downtown and Wrigley Field. We were able to walk almost everywhere, with an occasional trip on the El, or an Uber ride. It seemed that we got good value for what we paid. The staff always wore masks and guests were also masked at all times, so we felt safe when using the elevators and visiting the bistro.

This visit was so fun and I enjoyed coming back to this hotel on a daily basis. First got there and front desk associates were super friendly and made the check in process real easy. Then to top it off handed me two FIJI waters (my favorite water) and I could come down as much as I wanted to get them through the my stay. I called room service twice during my stay and within 5-6 mins there were upstairs with what I asked for. If there was one drawback, the rooms were a tad small. There cafe serves a very good brunch and if you really want an experience, google "YOLK" which is 0.2 miles down the street (go in the direction of the man on the horse statue). Rooms were clean, hallways were clean, the elevator dindt have a stench and the area as a whole is a good location. They have central heat so there is no loud noises from the old school heating and cooling system. Definitely will be on my list when I visit next time as long as the price is good as it was on this last visit.

My daughter and I received excellent service on our recent and first trip to Chicago. Larry checked us in and was very helpful. He not only provided us with a city map, but acclimated us to our surroundings, told us the safest place to park our vehicle, and how to purchase a Chicago City Pass. The location was great, only a few blocks from Lake Michigan and a short walk to the Art Institute of Chicago and the Riverwalk. Our room had an excellent view of Lake Michigan. Our amenities that we appreciated: hotel security, elevators that could only be ridden by using your room key; the front doors opened automatically; the elevators were a very short distance from the hotel's front doors, the modern, sleek décor of our room; and a huge walk in shower. The service again was excellent and every staff member we met greeted us warmly. Will stay at the Hotel Essex on my next trip to Chicago.

I’m a Marriott guy - so when I needed to go to Chicago for a few days, I saw the Le Meridien as a quaint option. Check in was easy - dont expect the front desk to pander to your Bonvoy status (they wont) and not sure if there are bigger rooms available. But the hotel grows on you. The rooms are small - but well renovated and well designed. Love the automatic light for the bathroom (why dont all hotels do this) and the beds are comfortable. Water pressure for the shower was woeful (a drunk hamster would have trouble getting wet) and this was the first hotel that had a steam machine versus a iron and ironing board. The restaurant is completely separate to the hotel and you cant charge food or drinks to your room. I’d stay there again…

I am a Marriott Titanium Lifetime member with over 25 years of stays at Marriott brands, and supposedly one of their most loyal customers. I have stayed in this hotel 3 times, once for business and twice on personal trips. I will not return to this hotel under any circumstance. Everything, every service, in this hotel is a hassle.

My primary issues are:
1) Room Service – Pricing on the food bill does not match the room menu. When calling the restaurant, they argued over the price. I had to speak with 3 people before getting to the manager who admitted the billing was incorrect. Worse, when the food arrived, the delivery was not correct. Frustrating and I shouldn’t have to fight over discrepancies. I ended up returning everything and asking for the food to be removed from my bill.
2) Housekeeping is not dependable. Daily service is no longer a standard in this hotel but must be requested each day before noon. I called the front desk at 10am, reminded the housekeeper in the hall outside my room, and spoke to the front desk on my way out the door around noon. The room was not serviced.
3) I need to return to Chicago in 2 weeks and Marriott has raised the nightly rate of this hotel to $759/night for June 4. They have to be kidding. I realize Covid hurt the industry badly but to gouge people is not acceptable.

I will find alternate hotels, including Non Marriott’s, and/or VRBO & AirBnB before staying at this hotel again.

No housekeeping, using covid as an excuse even though all the other hotels I’ve stayed at have no issue with keeping clean (I’ve stayed at 2 a week since June), they don’t leave enough towels so had to use wet towels. Rooms are TINY. OK for me, a small person, but my 6 ft tall husband did not fit.
I have a bad hip and the hotel’s restaurant staff at breakfast refused to accommodate me - they would only allow me to sit on a tall high wooden backless stool, even though there were many regular booths available, they said I could not sit at them, despite explaining my bad hip. Had to juggle my breakfast up to my postage-stamp sized room.
I work for a large travel agency, I will definitely not be sending any of our agency’s clients here.

Seems like the Le Meridian is a self service hotel. Little done without prompting, like cleaning rooms, refilling coffee in rooms, providing enough towels and pillows. Received an email about all the amenities that they provide. Pure fiction (steamers in room...) I would be happy with 2 hand towels and an extra bar of soap

Despite the "ease" of asking for items through app, nothing accomplished without going to the front desk and asking. Sort of like customer service through phone centers... no one can help, but they still ask if they can do anything else.

Gold member of Bonvoy - got me an upgrade to a 4th floor room looking at another building 10 feet away... hate to wonder what my orginal room would have been.

Will not be staying here again. Go to Hilton next door, much nicer rooms, better service, and amenities. Probably should be 1 1/2 stars instead of 2, but you get my drift.

At the time they were doing renovations so the cost of the room was very reasonable. It is located near a bike rack for the blue bikes that you can rent. We used them everyday. It is close to the museum complex and withing a 5 min walk of the lake and the walking trails.

Stayed here with my wife as part of a travel package for a series of concerts at the Auditorium Theater. I’m always wary when things get packaged together like that, so was prepared to show up to a mediocre hotel experience. Happy to report that this was easily the nicest hotel I’ve stayed at in downtown Chicago.

With the hotel recently renovated, the room we were in was very nicely appointed - tastefully modern with a very comfortable bed, huge TV, and very nice bathroom layout.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant is quite good and we were given a $15 voucher each day that was good for any meal we had at the restaurant. While the menu isn’t huge, the food we had was nicely prepared and the waitstaff were courteous, professional, and efficient.

Would gladly stay here again and definitely plan on doing so the next time we come back to Chicago.
