Detailed Reviews
I used to stay here for one reason, and one reason only – location. While it’s not the fault of the hotel, the East Lakeview neighborhood is on a serious downward spiral that started well before the pandemic. Even the two-story Walgreen’s has been shuttered and the entryway transformed into a homeless encampment. Around the corner, Bed Bath and Beyond is closing their location and many of the small shops and restaurants are doing likewise.
Although this hotel is co-branded as a Days Inn, they violate company policy by no longer offering a free breakfast. Instead you get a coupon valid for one glazed donut, but only if you buy a drink!
And the hotel has posted signs advising guests to wait for the “next elevator” if it’s already occupied. Problem is, there is no “next elevator.” Despite being a 4 story building with well over 100 rooms, there is only one small elevator that is in constant use. There is certainly charm about an older building, but the lack of investment in infrastructure doesn’t make for an enjoyable stay.
Not sure I would stay here again.

Thank you first of all for choosing to stay with us and for being a "regular" guest. You were already acquainted with our building and the elevator, most likely the stairwell too, so yes we do have that vintage charm. We are very sorry to see that you feel the neighborhood has gone downhill. We see it as a vibrant, fun Chicago neighborhood that is going through a temporary tough period in history and will continue on when this all passes. There are already new builds coming to the area that we are looking forward to. So it is just a matter of time. Sorry to see that you may not stay again. Thanks for sharing your concerns. Best wishes.

Obviously, finding a great hotel near the heart of Chicago is tough unless you're willing to spend some serious cash. The Hotel Versey is located close to a number of bus stops which meant that we could park our car and explore the city via bus. Positives included the location and the validation of our parking in the garage about a block away. Negatives include the lack of a refrigerator or microwave in the room, very small and slightly outdated rooms, and mediocre water pressure.

Thank you for your patronage. We do have different room types and rooms with microwaves and refrigerators. It depends on the reservation and availability. Sorry to hear about the water pressure. Please don't hesitate to contact the front desk. We would have someone check that immediately. Thanks again.

The Versey is a fabulous hotel for the value. It is conveniently located to DePaul and Lincoln Park, shopping and eateries (Stan's Donuts is next door), the bus and the train. The Versey feels like a boutique hotel at a much better price point. And the rooms are well appointed.
Our room was street side on the third floor. My only complaint was that it was a little noisy. I was so tired it didn't stop me from sleeping, but we didn't find the complimentary ear plugs in the nightstand until we were checking out.

This is a unique hotel as to decor. It looks like it was recently remodeled. The staff was nice and the parking lot they had us use had a very acceptable $20 rate which is wonderful. However, there were a number of issues other than the extreme noise coming from the streets. You have to step up to get into the bathroom. Not user friendly. The tub is high and they have no grab bars. They give you one small bar of soap to share between the sink and tub. The vanity in the bathroom looks like the smallest, cheapest vanity sold at Home Depot. The room doesn't have a closet so they put a luggage rack (like the kind they have in airport parking lot vans) in the room and they stupidly put the room safe on the bottom shelf. The beds very mushy to get in and out of. The heater in the room is noisy when it goes on.

I had stayed here many years ago and loved it but it is now overpriced.
This time our room was facing the street and was incredibly noisy all night, making it difficult to sleep. But the biggest issue was the room price. The pricing for a Friday night was ridiculous so our TH/FR 2 night stay was $866 through Bookings.com!
The location is good for walking to Lake Michigan, dinner or shopping and you could manage without a car.
The room was clean and the water pressure was great.
The parking validation for the Hertz parking lot around the corner was a $10 savings.

I absolutely loved my two stays at Hotel Versey. The location could not be better considering downtown is close and the airport is a quick Uber or bus/subway ride away. The hotel is iconic in Boystown and offers all of the amenities you need to recharge, recoup, and get ready for your day. The wireless internet is fast and free. The rooms are perfectly plush with outlets to charge your electronics near your bed. I was absolutely pleased with the abundance of television stations as well, especially during the time when I just want to relax. The rooms are trendy with special touches. I can't explain it in words. It is very cool here. A huge plus is gym access next door at LA Fitness. It beats a small hotel gym. It was an absolutely amazing perk! The staff are really courteous and help you choose a room to your liking. Overall, I can't wait for my next stay when I am in Chicago. I work in Chicago about 10 times a year and Hotel Versey definitely got me hooked!

This was the second stay at Hotel Versey and I have to say it got better with each stay. My first stay was good but this time it was great! I booked a room with a king size bed and once I arrived I received an upgrade, not requested, and I was booked into the best room in the hotel! Forth floor, corner suite, I felt like I need to invite all my friends over just to see the room!
The location of the hotel is very convenient to public transport if you want to go to the Loop area to sight-see or just stay in the neighborhood and go to one of many restaurants in walking distance of the front door. The parking garage for the hotel is right around the corner and if you leave it for your entire stay it’s only $20.00 for the entire visit!
Family lives in the area so we can walk to meet.
The staff all are wonderful and I didn’t get everyone’s name but George and Ryan at the front desk were very helpful.
I will stay again.

The parking garage is at 2836 N Clark at Century Mall. It’s just around the corner on the sidewalk (exposed to the weather) & no elevator so park low. Bring your ticket to the front desk so that you can get the $25/72 hour rate(No in & out). You can unload your luggage into the hotel lobby, in front of the hotel first with your hazards on & Then move the car into the garage if you need to.
The lobby has nice seating areas with board games to play. Also drinks & packaged snacks for sale(like that seen in vending machines)
The Location was fabulous!! Had a neighborhood feel..tons of shops, food, bars.
15 min walk to Lincoln park putt putt, almost 30min to the great free zoo in the park & to Wrigley field for a Cubs game. Safe area!
Best part: I asked the man at the front desk that I thought I remembered a microwave on the property years ago. He said, “no”. But when I asked him if it was possible to reheat lunch leftovers for my dinner, he said I could bring it down to him later & he could heat them up for me!😊

Basic no-frills hotel if you’re on a budget and don’t need anything fancy. It’s fairly clean, quiet, and in a good area right on the border of Lakeview and Lincoln Park with lots of stores and restaurants around it.
However, the room itself itself was absolutely tiny (I’ve had bigger hotel rooms in NYC). I could barely maneuver around the room without bumping into something and there were very few places to put my things. The room also had old window unit AC that was very clunky and noisy.
Speaking of noise, I was woken up at around 1 am on the last night of my stay to a call from the lobby. I didn’t answer in time because I was half asleep, but very strange they’d call in the middle of the night unless it was a mistake or emergency.
Basically no amenities beyond the absolute bare minimum. Maid service only comes every few days and they charge $6 for the in-room bottled water.
This place is kind of like the Spirit Air of hotels. If you just need a place to stay for cheap in a good area and go in with low expectations, it’ll work.

Found this sweet Cubs themed hotel about a mile from Wrigley. Roomy and comfortable and affordable. Staff is very accommodating.
Will book again next time downtown Chicago.
Parking was easy in a garage around the corner once checked in and got bags to room. $20 each time you leave the garage. We walked or used Lyft.

I think room charge is nonrefundable for whole stay charged at checkin.
Sign in room said maid service every 3 days, but I just stayed March 2024 and had daily maid service with new towels every day.
I agree with the answer submitted by Kevin S. The $20 discounted parking rate for 72 hours was an amazing deal for Chicago hotel parking. We were able to get the discounted coupon twice since our stay was longer than 72 hours. We also did not use any cabs. We either walked or used Uber. I was always walking with family, but I agree with Kevin that if I had to walk alone at night I would use Uber.
They have valet parking for the garage behind them. I believe it is $40 a day.
