We live staying at The Godfrey! Lauren at the front desk was very helpful every time we needed something (water, change, etc). We weren't expecting our room to have cleaning services daily, but we kept running into hotel staff who asked if we needed service. Our view from the 16th floor was amazing (we always ask for a room on this floor)!

The hotel is located in a great location, with walking access to great restaurants or a quick taxi/rideshare away! We are looking forward to our next stay! Thanks Godfrey!

The location and atmosphere are great. when checking in we were advised that the restaurant on location ( that also offered breakfast ) had stopped working with them. With a room reservation hotel does charge Urban fee $ 15.00 that provides amongst other things access to fitness center and 2 bottles of water(make sure to ask if that is not offered at check in). Hotel will also put an additional $ 100.00 hold per night on credit card upon check in, charge will be reversed after check out).

Hotel is in a great location. Room was on the small side, but clean and well appointed. Staff was nice, though some weren’t very knowledgeable of the area when we asked a few questions. Biggest gripe is that two waters were given to us at the check-in desk that later showed up on our bill as charges, and the “free” WiFi was not free either. Those things marred an otherwise nice stay.

Hi JT — Thank you for your feedback, and we’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the location and found our team welcoming. We’d like to clarify that the $20 urban fee, which is included in your stay, covers amenities such as WiFi and two bottles of water. These are not additional charges but part of the daily fee to enhance your overall experience. We apologize for any confusion and appreciate you bringing this to our attention so we can better communicate this to our guests in the future. We hope to welcome you back for an even smoother stay.

When we arrived we smelled pot in the elevator, and it opened up to our floor with an even more nauseating smell. We checked in early enough that cleaning staff should have at least have smelled it especially as they went up and down in the elevators and walked on our floor that day. Something should have been done on the first day to clean and aerate the elevator and our floor . On our first night I had trouble sleeping because of the loud noises by residents; waking up early and opening our room door to the obnoxious smell of pot ( aka marijuana ) was enough for me to address the issue at the front desk attendant; the smell lingered all throughout the 2nd day .

I also noticed from using the elevators during our stay many times that the people that stopped on my floor were only people of color . Caucasians were all on higher floors . I wasn’t going to say anything until another guest in the hotel on our floor noticed it as well . I never saw a single Caucasian exit the elevator into my floor. It looks like management purposely put people of color on my floor and a few randomly above .

Although this hotel is supposedly 4.5 stars it’s not worth more than 2 stars for the lack of quality and control in common areas like the elevators and hallways smelling of pot. The room was spacious and clean , but the drapes reeked of aged stains . The $23/day extra daily charge for WiFi , mediocre gym and limited cable is not justifiable. At least at the Hilton Hotels and others the daily fees are comped w restaurant and beverage credit. I never used any of the above services to justify $23/day. I hotspot my WiFi through my cell phone and used my own paid streaming services because the hotel was not worth even turning on the tv . I couldn’t even Comcast my own streaming service on Godfrey tv.

I would spend my money elsewhere. Yes, this hotel is in a nice location, and yes, the rooms were nice. That's about it. I was quoted a price for a room that INCLUDED taxes and fees. The customer service representative confirmed twice with me that the rate included taxes and fees, and then we checked out, and taxes and fees were added to what we were told was the total charge. The manager tired of looking into it I guess after one attempt, because she wouldn't listen to my second call with customer service to rectify the issue.

Also, the "rooftop" bar on the 4th floor allows DJs to play blaring music until all hours of the night. There was a wedding the weekend we were there, and we called the front desk who said there was nothing they could do and the music would stop by 3. So, in a hotel, where you go to rest, we were just told to deal with it and I guess not sleep. This is a HOTEL that happens to have a bar. It is not a bar, and I would expect better consideration for guests who are good money to stay here. My room should not have had the windows shaking from the music. Also, we asked to speak to a manager and were told there would be no manager until Monday. What hotel has no manager on duty on the weekends when most people are staying? They did give us half off our room for the night, but it would be better if they would require private events to end at a more reasonable hour considering they are a hotel or tell DJs they have to turn the music down at a certain point.

Finally, when housekeeping came by, we were getting ready to leave for the day. We asked them to come back around 12:30 to make up the room, and they wrote it down and never came back. We got some fresh towels, but the garbage was left and the beds were not refreshed.

I can get better service and a better experience for a much better price at another hotel, which I will do next time.

I was excited to stay at this hotel because it was on my list to try. However, we stayed from 2/20-2/23 and it was not the best experience. There was no hand soap to even wash your hands, our towel rack broke twice (front desk wasn’t surprised to hear this), and housekeeping only came once to turn over during our stay. When I called to inform them, all front desk heard was so you need towels and just sent up two towels. The only line on the phone that works is front desk, so if multiple people are trying to contact front desk you won’t get thru. Overall the room
Just didn’t feel clean, its outdated, and disappointing service for a 4.5 star hotel, it felt like a 3 star which is upsetting when you paid for the price of a 4.5 star.

Is it a budget hotel trying to be luxurious? Is it a bottom-tier luxury hotel?

The Pros:
- Very warm and friendly valet and housekeeping staff
- Plenty of hangars in the closet
- It is a clean hotel

The Cons:
- Lumpy bed
- NO breakfast service, not even coffee in the lobby in the mornings (and only two of those godawful Keurig servings in the room and only powdered “cream”)
- One, low, armless and uncomfortable club chair in the room
- In the lounge/restaurant at happy hour (5pm), ALL of the tables in the vast space had RESERVED tags on them except for the half-dozen seats at the bar - all of which were occupied when I was there for a drink
- Small lobby with bench seating only, again very low to the ground
- No info about hotel amenities in the room (maybe because there aren’t any?)
- Front-desk staff seemed unwilling or uncomfortable engaging with guests: terse, incomplete responses to questions and a lack of eye-contact

I’ve come to the conclusion that the Godfrey is a “major city” version of a Motel 6: you get a bed, towels, and hot water, but that’s it. So it IS a budget hotel trying to be luxurious. The problem is that there are hotels with more amenities in the immediate area that are only a few bucks more per night. Shop around!

P.S. to management.
- Please retrain your front-desk staff.
- Please consider a simple continental breakfast with fresh coffee/tea and a buffet of fruit and prepackaged breads/pastries and yogurts. At the very least, provide coffee service in the lobby in the mornings so that we don’t have to schlep around River North for it.
- Please provide info about hotel services in the room and on the Web site.
- Please invest in new mattresses.

We came here for a wedding. The venue is around the corner from the Godfrey Hotel. I would not come back to this hotel. The staffs are rude and services were terrible. The room was clean but they were under staff. Housekeeping skipped my room one day during my stay. When I called to have my room clean, the front desk told me that they are short staff, they would not be able to clean my room and refresh the towels. The hotel itself does not have a restaurant. I would be be off at Home2suite across the street.

There are hidden fees that were not explained at check-in or check out. I was simply charged 71 dollars that I was totally unaware of. I was still in the hotel and went to the front desk to understand what I had done wrong in the room to be charged this out of nowhere. I specifically remember being told at check in that the credit card on file would only be used for incidentals and that I had paid everything in full already. Well, they then told me (after being charged) that there was a 23 dollar a day fee?? For amenities?? By the way, they consider a "nonsmoking room" an amenity. It is not about the price, it is about the sneaky way I was not told about the fee. I was able to notice it only because I receive text messages for all credit card charges.

Other than this, the hotel is just OK. I feel it was way more expensive than what it is worth. The furniture in the lobby was broken and needs to be replaced. The room also had some odd things on the ceiling and other worn out areas not comparable to the price charged per room.

The "rooftop" bar is basically the 4th floor and the view is of powerlines. On the weekends, apparently, even if you are a guest at the hotel, you have to go downstairs to check in to go up to the bar. This was also not well explained, and I felt more like an outsider trying to get in to a club which was not welcoming for a hotel guest. The man checking in was also not friendly even after explaining we were staying at the hotel.

Please reconsider another option for your stay in lovely Chicago.

I stayed at the Godfrey while attending a conference at McCormick Place. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was clean, very well-lit and spacious. The hallways were well-lit, as well. I felt very safe traveling as a single woman. I really appreciated the coffee maker in the room with a small sink nearby and the empty refrigerator for leftovers and breakfast fixings. There is a Whole Foods a short walk away, so it was easy to pick up some nice fruit, yogurt, etc. It is a short walk to the Magnificent Mile. I plan to come back when I have another conference in the city.
