The Hotel Riu Plaza Chicago garners appreciation for its service, with guests commending the friendly staff despite occasional efficiency hiccups. It's deemed a good value by travelers who enjoy the spacious rooms and included breakfast. The modern and stylish atmosphere of the hotel, coupled with its cleanliness and eco-friendly amenities, receives favorable mentions.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for just one night while passing through on our way to pick up a family member. I'm giving the hotel the benefit of the doubt in my rating because they are still very new and will need time to work out the kinks with operations, but there are some things that need to be addressed in order for me to want to stay here again.
The Pros:
Stylish hotel in a fantastic location in downtown Chicago. Nicely appointed rooms with eco friendly lighting and no carpet! The beds were incredibly comfortable as well. The included breakfast buffet had numerous food options to suit most tastes and was nice to have in the base rate. All the staff we interacted with during our stay were lovely and seemed to be trying their best to meet customer needs.
The Cons:
I don't know if it was just during our visit, but the AC in the rooms did not work well at all and the temp would not go below 75F no matter what we did. I also thought it was very odd that they limit access to other floors. We had another family member on a different floor who had a medical issue while we were there. While the staff was able to grant our key card access to that floor, I don't know what you would be able to do if you are with a group, but we found that to be inconvenient. There are no ice machines anywhere except at the bar in the lobby and no ice buckets in the rooms. I sincerely hope Riu considers adding ice machines at some point. We booked a room that had a pull out sofa but there were no sheets or blankets in the room. We did call the front desk to request them, and it took over 30 minutes to receive them. Lastly, and this is a very minor complaint, but we were not allowed to take any coffee to go from the breakfast area. It would be nice to have that option if you were in a hurry or were traveling for business.

I don’t have enough words to describe this beautiful place as I’m still here and each day I marvel into something else
Let’s start with how beautiful it is
Top notch design
The room itself is not just elegant but so functional and i love love their environmental consciousness
A key card can get your lights AC and TV on and when you leave you simply pull it out
I love that
The water in the bathroom is great but at the same time not wasteful
Beautiful shower with a big round shower head that really feels so amazing
The bed was heaven! it’s the first time i slept past my alarm in weeks
The staff is stellar
Everyone is so friendly so helpful , right there all the time making my stay and everyone’s stay so comfortable
The breakfast was insane at least four rows of all this food not just your regular breakfast
They had hot milk for my coffee all frothy
What an experience
They do not have to go containers which I loved and it pushed me to just sit and look out their magnificent sized windows and sip my delicious coffee before going to the office
The upstairs roof bar is so nice they have fire pits and a great bar
Delicious food and the view of Chicago is just breathtaking and so is the glass edge which I finally got on Yikes super thrilling !!
I love this place so much i want to stay inside the hotel and just enjoy the people here
I have booked it again for a week in late October for another business trip but i have to say I wouldn’t even mind paying for the room myself
I am that impressed
Love love love it here
Amazing
Ten stars !!

The stay was wonderful. Breakfast was fantastic! It was a well oiled machine and was delicious. Working for a logistics company for 35+ years, I was very impressed!
My only knock was I requested a room as high up as possible. The next morning the workers started working at 6;30am. Woke up me up and I couldn’t fall back asleep. The gentleman at the counter wasn’t very sympathetic by saying next time you should request a room a couple floors below that. How was I supposed to know that? He could have offered a couple free drinks at the bar as a nice jester. Can’t wait until the roof top car opens.
Either way the stay was amazing.

We had a good stay at the Riu Plaza Chicago, but didn’t feel particularly valued.
We had a booking at The Intercontinental, and as loyal Diamond members, cancelled them for the Riu Plaza Chicago which had just opened.
We had been at the Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf a few weeks earlier. Although Chicago is a lovely fresh hotel and staff are still being trained, it did not meet our expectations (staff aside)
On checking in (as Diamond members), there was no special welcome or even acknowledgement (like every other Riu we stay in). The manageress in SF came and greeted us personally!
We had requested a high floor and room upgrade, however, were allocated floor 9 as nothing higher was available, nor were there any upgrades available. From day 1, we watched other guests going above the 20th floor.
When booking we were looking forward to spending a few evenings at the rooftop bar with fire pits (the ones at Fisherman’s Wharf SF were great). However, when asking about these we found out they were not going to open for a few months while waiting for permits to come through. It would have been nice to have been aware of this when booking.
Breakfast:
The choice is excellent. Compared to other Riu’s we stay in, it is missing a fresh cook station. However, after staying at the Plazas in San Francisco & Manhattan, it is the norm in the states.
Just missing fresh fried eggs and Pain Au Chocolat in Chicago.
Drinks:
Very sensibly priced for a hotel (same in both Riu’s San Francisco and Manhattan).
Staff:
All very friendly and helpful. All had smiles on their faces.
Room:
Very nice and clean standard room.
A few times towels hadn’t been replaced, but this is to be expected while training staff. Our housekeeper did keep our room nice and clean.
As Riu Diamond class members, we won’t be rushing back when back in Chicago.
Riu Chicago – Improvement needed, and do try and look after your most loyal guests in future. You’ll see my booking 24th-29th July under Laurence Pulling.
We have a lot of holidays each year (as you will see in my reviews) and see many hotels in many countries. I also give honest reviews as we see it.

The good: The Spanish owned hotel is new, clean, and beautifully located just off Michigan Avenue. Our room is spacious and reasonably well appointed. It's also well priced affordably in the mid-range. The buffet breakfast, included, has a huge selection in an incredibly crowded dining hall.
The not-so-good: Being a new hotel, it's obvious some of the staff is still in training. To be expected as it's a new hotel. The rooms are large enough but spartan. They aren't carpeted; there is a textured vinyl floor. It feels a bit more like a dorm room at a college than a high-rise hotel. The furniture looks and feels more utilitarian than luxe or truly comfortable. (the beds are fine, though)
My take is that the Riu is a good hotel for the price. Would I stay here again? Probably not.

The hotels location is excellent within easy walking distance of many attractions. The roof top bar is great and not that expensive. The breakfast is not what you would expect in USA it is more what you would get in a Spanish resort hotel. Cold meats, salad, fruit, cereals, and 5 different choices of hot breakfast food NO BISCUITS AND GRAVY THANK GOD. The rooms are new and very clean with really comfortable beds. All in all a wonderful hotel and I am looking forward to staying in their New York Times Square hotel in January.

Excellent customer service and included breakfast was appreciated. Our first night checking in we found the room had not been properly cleaned. The front desk found us a new room immediately so they were very responsive to our concerns. Otherwise great stay.

This was my birthday weekend and I made sure the staff was aware. Everything was Amazing from the time I arrived the Bellman greeted me and helped me with my luggage, the staff was Amazing they greeted me and all told me Happy Birthday, and they surprised me with a little chocolate gift. The hotel is beautiful and I love the Decor. the only thing I hate I missed their breakfast due to oversleeping and I paid for it, I wish I could of received a voucher for breakfast next time, but they told me they don't offer that. My friends loved the hotel and I will definitely be back, I recommend for anyone.

I had a fantastic experience over the long Labour Day weekend. It is a brand-new hotel where everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful (big cheers for the personnel). The hotel allowed us to store our luggage before checking in and also after checking out for a few hours, which was very convenient. The breakfast was delicious, and as a vegan, I was pleasantly surprised to find a variety of tasty options, including almond milk. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-equipped. Most importantly, there were blackout curtains, allowing us to sleep comfortably. I wholeheartedly recommend Rui Plaza Hotel and I can't wait to return.

Very nice property, very close to Magnificent Mile and the river walk. One minor complaint, when we arrived there were 2 water bottles in the room. The next day I went to the front desk to have the water replenished and was informed that the water was complimentary for the 1st night only. The room fridge is very small and will hold a max of 4 bottles of water. It baffles me as to why the water is not replenished on a daily basis. When you are staying in the caliber of hotel that this is, I wonder why they would be that frugal.
