My family and I checked in because we lost power at our home. Lakeisha at the front desk was wonderful. She was accommodating, friendly and exhibited a lot of empathy when checking us in. She made a very difficult experience better. The room was clean and stylish and the hotel's restaurant, Truth be Told is very good. I would recommend both the hotel and restaurant.
Loved the welcoming environment! Loved the decor. The book selection had something for everyone. Furniture was very comfortable and relaxing. Best hotel staff I've ever encountered! They made us feel at home. Highly recommend. Would definitely stay here again.
Excellent service. Every single employee went above and beyond to make our stay special. A gem of a hotel! The rooms were clean and well equipped and if we needed anything our request was promptly met. So glad we opted to stay here!
The best hotel near the university. Nice fitness room. Free coffee in the morning. But they should have more coffee options. Maybe a coffee machine in the room. Also a bit pricy room given that it is in Hyde Park not downtown. But overall, very classy hotel room. I would stay again.
Very Impressed with the Study at U of Chicago. Right in the middle of U Chicago campus. My kid was able to walk over to visit me between classes. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend!!
The experince was generally great with friendly staff and a clean, quiet hotel with a nice lobby to spend time in while waiting for a later train to leave town, as it worked out. And I was able to have a tiny, quiet refrigerator in my room, just by asking ahead. The one thing I really hated, was that they made no offort to have a way to make coffee and tea in the rooms. (And I had asked for decaf ahead of time and despite being told it would be there, it never appeared.) Luckily, I had decaf coffee/filters/filter- holder and was able to get two cups of thermos-warm water from the lobby only during the limited few morning coffee hours and made luke-warm drip coffee in my room but it was rough bringing two cups and waving my room key to activate the elevator before pushing the floor botton. So the experience of having to get dressed early/look decent to go to the lobby in time to get the water (or any coffee/tea) in the morning was an unnecessary hassle. If they can't provide coffee/tea-making in the rooms, then they should set them up in the lobby for a much, much longer period of time, not just for early risers. Many people around the world have tea times all day, such as at 11 AM in England and again at around 4 PM. Having to get morning coffee and be dressed to do it before 9 is not relaxing for me, at a hotel. I think they may be trying for a "concept" of people mingling that, frankly, many of us do not want to do before or during the first cup of coffee in the morning. …
A lovely hotel- well designed, great service. Every detail has been considered for maximum comfort and serenity. The room was peaceful and beautiful with a Scandinavian vibe. The lobby is gorgeous, a place with lots of nooks for reading and hanging out which many people enjoyed.
Extremely rude front receptionist for no reason - was texting and talking to others while checking in, snarky remarks. Made it take very long to get into the hotel and an uninviting environment. Not a hotel I would stay at again. Rooms just okay and amenities of no note and extremely limited
To be completely honest, I selected this place based purely on proximity. It is right next to the University of Chicago and I had meetings on campus that day. But it was an excellent experience. It is not what I would consider totally conventional place. The lobby (as the name might suggest) feels more like a study than a traditional space. It was different, but quaint. A few highlights: Room: I see several reviews about the cost and it was expensive, but part of that is it is in Chicago and part of that is its unique location. If you are visiting the University of Chicago, I would not stay anywhere else. Room was large, a bit austere, but certainly functional and comfortable. Staff: Exceptional. Everyone I dealt with (front desk, valet, restaurant) were helpful, friendly, and answered a lot of questions. Five-star staff for sure. Food: We were very surprised by the quality and diversity of food at the restaurant. Again, there are not a super large number of options in the immediately proximity - and we could have cared less. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. One piece of advice - try to get a room on a higher floor that looks over campus. My room was on the 3rd floor, but my colleague was higher up and she had an excellent view of the campus.…
For over $300 a night I expect more. Room was clean and quiet but had a monastery-like austerity with almost no artwork. Good lighting with many choices. Friendly staff. No in-room coffee or fridge. Very poorly chosen closet furniture turns hangers 90° and makes it very difficult to access multiple hanging articles of clothing. These details seem to be form over function. I had an accessible room which was especially problematic - the wider bed spacing results in no room left for the desk. Very difficult to sit down at the desk - I almost tripped! And one bed is pushed fully up against a wall. This is very convenient to campus, but that also means there are no services in east walking distance. The hotel does not have a snack shop or any other small conveniences that are helpful when you are so isolated - only the restaurant.…
