Detailed Reviews
There were cigarette burns in the blankets and hairs under one of the sheets. The room stinks like smoke. Channel 4 has hardcore porn for some reason? Loud people walking by. I suppose for the price you get what you pay but I'm actually afraid to fall asleep.

Do not stay at this hotel. Does not have a microwave and room is mediocre. Looks run down and shabby and the cost is 62 dollars a night plus tax. The owner is very sharp tongued and you are better off staying somewhere else. As a matter of fact stay in the suburbs.

we stayed the night. wish we hadn't. I got up to go to bathroom. Water all over floor and carpet. Reported to woman at desk when leaving. Asked for a refund. Got a rude "NO". Had her go to room with me to check situation out. Tried to accuse ME of clogging the toilet. I argued with her that I DIDN'T DO IT.Basically accused me of lying about it.These other people are right...........lots of noise on the street.....sounded like drunks arguing.....scary.....as on first floor! Place stunk, too. So glad I didn't sign any "deposit" agreement, as another motel had, but was full. NEVER want to go back here again!!!!!

I was also in between places and checked out a few of the motels in the area. All were about the same price. It was $60 per night on weekdays and $70 on weekends. Not sure where the other reviewer got $62. Maybe that was the price awhile ago. The people working there seemed friendly to me but I only saw them when I paid and was pretty much at work most of the day. Rooms were cleaned everyday, nothing was taken, not that I had anything to take except maybe my laptop. I don't normally leave reviews but I enjoyed my stay and was sad to see such a bad review on this website. Maybe those other people were just unlucky? and had a bad stay which happens. But the whole time I was there which was more than a night I was satisfied. Wish the price was cheaper but it's Chicago, not much you can do, everywhere is the same price.

I stayed at the Diplomat for a couple of months in late 2014. I was working 12-16 hours a day and looking for an apartment which proved to be impossible to do quickly. I empathize with the previous reviewers, but the first thing I would point out is that the place is nearly always full. The reason it's full is that the rooms are clean (bathrooms overflow at the Four Seasons); the rates are reasonable; and it is at least adjacent to one of the best (and most under-rated) neighborhoods in Chicago, Lincoln Square. The surrounding blocks have a substantial Korean population, including a brainy and eccentric ROK Korean War vet who owns the liquor store across the street and may lecture you on the German origins of Chinese beer, or the economics of Japanese sushi consumption. He is always watching PBS. The owners are rude in the conventional sense. They are also Korean and have learned English better than I could ever learn Korean. Perhaps they are tired of people complaining to them in a language they can follow with difficulty. The crabbiest of the bunch is capable of subtle charm and probably works 75 hours per week (which will chip at the chipper in anyone). The younger staff-members are personable and the maids are quite nice. So, you have clean, inexpensive, efficient, colorful, and close to what may be the best neighborhood in Chicago, a world class city. If you can handle the occasional scowl; an aging infrastructure; and an unevenness in customer service that is oddly stimulating, I recommend that you consider staying here. In two months, I saw one ant, and he was very low key.
