I frequently travel to Chicago for business and stay at whatever hotel was on sale at the time of purchase. A friend of mine recommended the Sophy Hotel last year, and I have been in love ever since. This is one of the best hotels in Chicago, and it just happens to be on the South Side of Chicago in the Hyde Park neighborhood. What makes this boutique hotel extraordinary is the customer service to details in the room and the award-winning staff. From Sam in the front greeting you and knowing everything going on in the city from festivals and block parties to the manager Meredith making sure everything is ready and going above and beyond with customer service. Those are just two of the many people who make my stay at the hotel experience special. Do yourself and your family a favor and book a room at the Sophy ASAP.…
One of our clients recommended this hotel for our business trip to Chicago. What a great recommendation. This boutique hotel has all the essentials without the stuffiness (both in the atmosphere and the staff) you may encounter in other high-end hotels. The reception staff was relaxed and joyful; the restaurant staff was helpful and friendly. The standard king room was large and very clean, and I loved the fun details of the decor. The walk-in shower had a very important detail...a control center away from the shower head! So important when keeping your hair dry is essential. The corner sofa arrangement came in handy for meditation and relaxed conversation. The bathroom toiletries are of very high quality, so you may safe some packing space for those. Call me picky, but for all the amazing atmosphere and high-end details, the toilet paper was the lowest quality available. I would like to see this upgraded. The food at the restaurant is a little overpriced, but worth the quality and the convenience when you are checking in late. While I don't need much other than coffee in the morning, I wish they had other offerings. On a weekday morning, the restaurant was closed for breakfast.…
Wish we could have continued our stay but Sophy was sold out. When we return to Chicago, it will be our first choice. Really enjoyed our stay. Location, staff, rooms and amenities were great. A quality choice.
Personal time with my Son and a short getaway for self to see Chicago and the changes from the last time I was there in 1988. What a change yet very expensive, still like it but could.not live there. Will return
This hotel was so beautiful; luxurious and oh so friendly! We had expected to stay one night but it was so great we booked a second night. The front desk staff led by Meredith Kearns were so efficient and knowledgeable! Professionalism at its best! We happened to speak to several other staff because they engaged us in conversation and made us feel so welcome! You cannot go wrong staying here! A++++
Better service is required for such an upscale hotel. Manager should be trained on customer service and how to resolve issues appropriately. The refridgerator did not work, and bath room sink and tub was clogged.
I love the location, it's food near by, not far from where I needed, you can walk to target, I love everything except the parking situation and I wish you could have a different heat stetting in bathroom with out a shower door it gets super cold fast that's my personal preference.
I had high expectations for my visit to Sophy Hyde Park, all the photos I'd seen looked amazing.....and it is an amazing hotel. Unfortunately, the way it is being operated leaves one heck of a lot to be desired. Upon reaching my room I attempted to access WiFi, no luck.....and I received messages on my phone indicating their WiFi system was not observing security protocols that are current. I returned to the front desk where the staff tried to say that the problem was with my phone. Um, nope....that doesn't fly. I decided to visit Mesler, the hotel restaurant/bar. I was seated by a surly hostess, placed a drink order & the drink hadn't arrived within 20 minutes so I left. Not a positive initial set of experiences. The room was great, the TV lineup was great, I loved the neighborhood, but I don't think I'll be returning. …
This hotel is an amazing, culturally eloquent gem. It was a perfect place to celebrate my wedding anniversary and it was perfectly placed within reach of the other spaces we visited during our stay. The ambiance and coziness of both the hotel lobby and the bar lends itself for top tier photos.
You can’t find a better hotel on the south side of Chicago. The staff is wonderful. The bar is well stocked. The rooms are beautiful. I love this hotel. The only downside is the parking situation. The parking is a block away in a garage that is approximately a block away.
