Noise every night, weird and rude staff. I had pre-paid the stay, but they charged me additionally. Every afternoon I ´ve had to go to front-desk to re-activate my door card for next day.
The carpeted stairway to the second floor was very steep and narrow and never vacuumed. The through the wall HVAC unit was loud even on low. The bedding had fist size lumps near the bottom. I joked that it was okay as none were moving. And the walls were thin and the bed was right against the wall. It felt and sounded like the amorous couple in the next room was sharing a bed with us.
It wasn't all bad though and was a perfect example of getting what you paid for, maybe even ai bit more. The king size bed was very comfortable. The room was looked and smelled clean, ..
Now saying no amenities was a bit unfair. The room has adequate, free Wi-Fi and a large flat screen TV. It had a coffee maker and coffee enough for one person.
My wife has threatened violence if I ever book a room there again. In a pinch, I'd stay there and if price was important, it offered real value for the price.
Reception staff were friendly, the heater worked well, there’s a fridge and a microwave (but no cutlery, which makes the microwave redundant), and it’s only two blocks from the bus which links to the Brown Line train that’ll take you south to the city centre.
One piece of advice - pack your earplugs. The walls are paper thin. The TV sets are mounted on these walls. Only when my neighbours turned off their TV and went to sleep, was I able to do so too. I could clearly comprehend conversations between the couple next door.
There was no wifi during our stay.
We were heading into Chicago on a budget and after a long day we just wanted a couple hours of sleep before we headed home the next morning!
The Rio is a Brothel!
The following morning (after a very restless night due to hearing other people have loud sex and someone pounding on the door while screaming in the hallway) we were followed out of the Rio parking lot by the cops!
We stopped at a nearby restaurant for coffee and they immediately pulled my ex husband and I out of the car and questioned us extensively as to why we stayed there!
My two kids ages 8 and 15 were terrified in the back sit watching all this.
The Rio was under survalince for drugs and prostitution!
Do NOT stay at the Rio if you are in Chicago with your family !!!
