We were so impressed with our stay! The hotel staff was kind, friendly and helpful. The room was clean and very comfy and spacious. The hotel was quiet but busy, so word must be out to stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Chicago!

Hotel's Favorite
There are many options when staying in Chicago but I would definitely stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco again. First, the location is great if you're looking to stay in the heart of the city. It's located off the river and it's near plenty of restaurants and shopping. It does tend to get pretty busy outside with tourist but that wasn't an issue for the 4 days I was there. The staff was extremely friendly from the doormen to the front desk. Special thank you to Caroline for being so friendly and helpful. The lobby is a decent size and furnished nicely. I had a King River View room. The room was nice overall and clean. The bed was comfortable and I liked the shower. Unfortunately the view was lackluster, I could barely see the river from my window. To be fair when I checked in the front desk did tell me I could possibly switch rooms if I was unhappy after my first night but I didn't even mention I was disappointed with the view. Also, floors did have a lot of dips in weird spots and the carpet could have used a good cleaning but it wasn't horrible by any means. Due to Covid the hotel is only doing housekeeping by request which I didn't mind at all. The valet is around $65 a day but does include in and out privileges. I think it's good if you're going to be going in and out all day. I only rented a car for 2 days and used a parking garage around the corner which was about $15 for 12 hours but it didn't have in and out privileges.

Stayed 2 nights this past weekend and it is perfectly situated for all downtown Chicago needs. Good King room with window lounge to view the riverwalk area. Hotel staff is eager to please. Only thing lacking is room service for true luxury hotel. Breakfast on weekend not available until 8am which is too late for many travelers. Great ice cream by the pint available from front desk. Would stay again.

My travelmates selected this hotel so I had no idea what to expect on my first visit to Chicago; I was pleasantly surprised! Service was very attentive, from when I stepped out of the cab and had a warm welcome from the Front Office Manager Ronald, to when I checked out and the bellhop shared his umbrella while I waited. Appreciated the free coffee in the lobby, breakfast is in the full service restaurant. Turned out to be a great location for our Chicago essentials: Architecture tour dock, Cloud Gate and the Art Institute. Lots of dining and bar options within a short walk.

This is an excellent boutique hotel that meets high expectations, except for their beds. It is perfectly located, with many rooms having views of the Chicago river. The clean updated rooms are larger than average and are very quiet. They contain a chair and desk as well as a dresser. The quirky wallpaper seems to somewhat clash with the carpeting. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. Pricing was very competitive for the level of hotel and its facilities. There is a small fitness center. We checked in late and were pleasantly surprised with the view from the 8th floor room, as we had booked the lowest class, an Essential, that have no views. However, getting into bed after midnight, we found half of the king bed being collapsed. The front desk was very helpful and able to move us to a 2nd floor room with a similar but lower view and offered a substantial discount for our first of three nights. This room was slightly smaller than the 8th floor room, but quite nice. However, this bed was in much better shape but still only in marginal condition. The next day, we rotated the mattress 180 degrees, which made things better. Everything about this hotel was top notch, except the bedding. I am a bit confused why mattresses are not periodically rotated to prevent this issue, as I have encountered this at other hotels. Maybe I am overly sensitive, but others in our party agreed with my assessment. I wish I could have given a 5 rating, as on every other metric this hotel excels. Sleep quality is a major consideration.

We had a great stay here. The staff were all so friendly, the rooms were lovely with a cushioned window seat for relaxing and viewing the city, the bed was not too soft (which is usually a problem for me at other hotels that have memory foam top mattresses), coffee was available every morning in the lobby, there was a complimentary wine and social hour at 6 pm, and the location was great. We easily walked to most of the venues and activities we had planned here, inlcuding the architectual boat tour, the jazz festival, the art institue, drunk shakespeare, and the ghost and gangster walk. Then it was a short walk to the L for longer rides out to wrigley field, second city, lincol park, and humbolt park.

I can't say enough good things about the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Chicago; it was fantastic! We booked a last-minute stay for an unplanned extra night in the city after our flight was cancelled. I reserved a basic King Essential room but was quickly upgraded (because of my loyalty status) to a River View room on a higher floor, which gave us a nice view of the city and the boat traffic. Trinity at the front desk made our check-in experience very pleasant; she was so friendly! We felt at home immediately. Our stay happened to fall on a night when the property was doing its regular evening wine reception in the lobby, a nice bonus. I've been a huge fan of Kimpton's properties for years. Each one is unique: sometimes quirky, always interesting. The Kimpton brand is easily my favorite within IHG's US portfolio. The room was well-appointed and comfortable, with no shortage of eye-catching details. Other reviewers have commented on the smaller size of the rooms, but I found them to be as expected for a boutique hotel in the middle of downtown. We dined in the property's restaurant, Fisk & Co. The food was top notch and the drinks were delicious. A staff member recommended the coconut curry mussels and we were not disappointed. I also thought the Blues Fest, a cocktail with Japanese whisky and coconut liquor, was excellent. Even though our stay lasted less than 24 hours, our overall experience was outstanding. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a distinctive place to stay in Chicago.

Upgraded to a river view suite and the views were amazing. Very clean and cozy. Had a few very minor issues with the room but the front desk took care of us and we appreciated that. Valet was great too. Will definitely stay here again when we're in the city.

Every hotel is not a match for everyone. This hotel has lovely, expansive public seating areas. The staff is very friendly. I spent four nights attending a function at this hotel. The original king room with a river view was small with some wallpaper that clashed with the busy patterned carpet. The room and the bathroom were very clean. The ceilings were tall. However, the next day we paid extra to move to a suite. The suite was much more spacious. Some walls had wallpaper and the busy patterned carpet continued. This room was also clean. There were enough power outlets for all our electronics, though there was not a actual designated desk if you had to work. There is a mini-refrigerator, but no coffee maker or microwave. I had requested a microwave when booking and again at check-in. Finally, on the second day, I again requested a microwave and one was delivered. The air conditioning had problems. The thermostat did not work. The room was freezing and then water began to drip from the sprinkler head. I called maintenance. One man came and he sent for a second man. The second man suggested that we just turn the air off and turn it on when the room became warm. We repeated this procedure throughout our stay. We only requested housekeeper on one day. We stayed in the living room and asked her to just empty the trash and clean/refresh the bathroom. Of course, we tipped. She left no toilet paper or clean glasses. I found her in the hallway for the toilet paper. There is no room service from the attached restaurant. You can order and go to the restaurant to pick-up your food. A 20% gratuity is already added to your bill. Also, make certain that you bring your cellphone. There is no paper menu in the room. You must scan a bar on your cell to pull up the menu. The restaurant did not offer enough options for us and we had delivery from other nearby sites. This hotel has a great location, near many Chicago establishments. It is great for many people. However, it is not a "fit" for us.

My husband and I have been visiting the Kimpton Monaco since 2014, finally buckling and bringing the kids with us since 2018, including a Thanksgiving weekend with my parents. Our most recent stay before last weekend was Sept 2019- we made sure to look and note potentially how different things could be now in 2022. We were more than excited to see Antonio waiting for us outside as we pulled up! He has made every stay fantastic with his expert care and service, his focus is taking such good care of his guests. He remembered our names, we shared and caught up on the last 3 years. We checked in with ease, thankful to Jon and Ron at the front desk. They were more than helpful, so so friendly- my family and I were so so happy to be home again! The room updates are beautiful, bathrooms large and well stocked- we noted the signage to call front desk for use/borrow of “forgotten” items. Nice touch! The complimentary coffee in the lobby was fantastic, housekeeping was on point. We had a 2 Queen river view room on floor 12, again we sat for hours in the windows and watched the world go by. The hotel is a short walk to the best food and shopping on Michigan Ave and State St, but be sure to venture off the beaten path and find all the amazing spots that the staff will recommend if asked. Fisk & Co absolutely hit the spot for a delicious breakfast and again for a late afternoon cocktail and appetizers- the oysters and frites are not to be missed. This is a boutique hotel so we are part of a “smaller crowd” when we stay, but the service is same as if we were the only guests.
