The Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago-Downtown garners appreciation for its central location, which guests love for its proximity to public transport and downtown attractions. The vibrant atmosphere, complete with music and stylish decor, is a highlight for many, along with thoughtful services like personalized texts. While the hotel's value is generally seen as reasonable, some guests have mentioned noise issues.
Most visitors commend the cleanliness and ample amenities, including a generous breakfast offering, although a few suggest there's room for improvement in housekeeping. The friendly and helpful staff, along with clean and spacious rooms, also contribute to the hotel's positive reputation.

Detailed Reviews
Everything about this Hotel was fantastic! I was visiting Chicago from June 6th - 9th, 2024. Let's begin with my first day, After a very long morning of traveling in from Seattle I was very Happy that my room was ready when I arrived which is always so nice. After going to my room and getting settled in, later that evening I went to get some food nearby and when I returned to the hotel to eat was very sad that it was not as ordered(very silly but I had ordered a cheeseburger with Ketchup and there was no ketchup). I needed some water so I went downstairs to get a bottle of my fave water (Thank you so much for having Evian available!!), as I was having the water put onto my room and was speaking with the two lovely ladies at the front desk Miss Damika and Miss Yolo, They were so kind and made me laugh. I was telling Damika how I was sad about the lack of ketchup on my burger and she said to me, hold on a second, that she thought she might have some Ketchup packets in the back. Low and behold she did and as silly as it seems that absolutely made my night that I could have my burger the way I liked it! That is what I call amazing guest service and going above and beyond for a guest! Thank you so very much for that Damika, that seriously made my night! After I had gone back up to my room and eaten I realised I had forgotten to ask if I could have some non-feather pillows sent to my room as I am allergic to feathers, so I called down to the front desk and Damika answered. I thanked her again for the ketchup and asked for the pillows and she had those sent to my room asap, thank you again Damika! I really appreciate how everyone that I came into contact with in this hotel, from all of the men and women that were at the front desk during my stay (thank you to the gentlemen who was at the front desk when I checked out on June 9th that commented on my Hoodie, I'm so sorry I have forgotten your name, you made me smile), to the people taking care of the rooms, those that were at the door when you entered that took care of valet even if you weren't parking your car would open the door for you, they were all so kind and that is very rare these days, which to me makes this hotel Top Notch!
Also, The Hotel is a great central location to many of the main attractions you might want to go to or is close to public transportation to get you there. The rooms are clean and a great size. I Highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Chicago and will definitely stay here again during my next visit to this fantastic city!
Thank you again to Everyone(Especially Damika and Yolo) for making my stay in Chicago a wonderful one and I looked forward to returning soon!
Kindest Regards,
Stephanie Martz

Hotel's Favorite
Arrived here after a long journey from London. The hotel was very reasonably priced for 2 adults and a child in a twin bedded room. Our room (415) was very clean and in good order.
The room had two good sized beds with crisp linens. There was a decent amount of storage and good lifting. The air conditioning was very effective.
Our bathroom had a tub with a shower over and a sink with a large vanity area. There were ample towels. Housekeeping is not daily unless you ask, but they do a thorough job on the scheduled visits.
On the 2nd floor is the breakfast area which ran through til 1030 and provided a very reasonable choice considering it was free. There was cereals, pastries, oatmeal, fruit, waffles and some hot items which changed each day. The lines were heavier the later in the morning you arrived but the staff were very efficient at replenishing the stock and turning round the tables for the next group.
There is also a indoor pool and an outdoor terrace to kick back after a days sightseeing!
The best asset of the hotel was the staff. The front counter desk were always super warm in their welcomes, very helpful, patient and polite. It made it a joy to walk in and be genuinely greeted each day. Shout out to Lydia and Innocence who went out their was to give local information, directions, tips and even provide forgotten toiletries without any drama.
I would definitely go back. Thank you .

True care is the most valuable asset in the service and hospitality industry. After a very stressful day, I arrived at the hotel expecting a clean bed to rest. Lydia greeted me with such true warmth and care that I felt my tiredness melt and my body warm up (50 degrees in June). Additionally, she offered us water and even cookies. The quality of the room was superior to the standard Hampton Inn. I loved the wasteless cream and soap dispensers and the fact that they were tampered proof. This particular hotel had a high quality of these amenities. The breakfast was adequate (and free!) for a quick bite before heading out. I would say it was above average for this line of hotels. In addition to the bread, pastries, and cereals, it had a warm menu of eggs, bacon, sausage, etc, depending on the day. If you don't like lines for your breakfast, pay attention to the signs that tell you the crowdest time and what to expect. The only downside of this location is that it is next to a fire station, so if you are not a fan of Chicago Fire, the constant whaling of the sirens during the day and night maybe not be for you. However, for a large city, I feel that sirens are unavoidable. I take the sirens for the amazing care of the staff and the sign around. Valet Parking is available within and out privileges ($65 while self-parking two blocks away is $55). The valet was understaffed for the weekend, but I didn't expect anything to happen fast in a big city. If you want to be in control of your own time, I recommend the self-park.

This is a perfect location for sightseeing in downtown Chicago. There are several Hampton Inns in Chicago, so definitely pay attention when booking. This one is well secured and maintained, we always felt safe. Innocence was courteous when we arrived around 9 am and found a room for us to check in early (for an extra $25, well worth it). We only had to wait until around 10:30am to check in. The breakfast buffet here is fantastic, two hot items every day and pretty much any breakfast item you can think of is available. Our room (911) was extremely clean and comfortable. As others have noted, this hotel is near a fire station, so bring a noise machine and/or earplugs and you'll be just fine. Some people are apparently irritated at the hotel's housekeeping policy, which is that you get housekeeping after your third night. I thought it was perfect and appreciate that Hampton is taking steps to protect the environment. We had plenty of towels and everything else for 3 days and never needed housekeeping. I would 10/10 stay here again.

I have stayed at this hotel for 10 nights over the last 6 months.
The rooms are spacious with room to work and relax. They have a microwave and refrigerator. There is also a sink area and counter near the appliances, but there is no dish soap, cleaning towels, utensils, etc., so although it may look like a kitchen area in the photos, it really isn't.
There are plenty of towels in the bathroom, even when I was traveling alone. This is a rarity these days, and I appreciated having plenty of towels on the trip where I was sharing the room with several family members.
Location is very convenient - right around the corner from the Red Line, and a short walk across the river to other CTA lines. Plenty of buses serve the area, and there are lots of restaurants, convenience stores, pharmacies, etc. within a block or two.
Breakfast is varied enough that there is something for everyone. The breakfast area is often crowded, and there often is not enough seats for everyone. Sometimes they open extra rooms for seating and sometimes they don't. I can't figure out how they determine when extra seating should be made available. The food is always very quickly replenished, even when there are big crowds. The breakfast staff is very efficient and friendly.
They have been working on the elevators for a while. There is always at least one that isn't working, thus sometimes waits for the elevator can be long. The steps going up from the lobby are locked, which I appreciate as a safety measure, but was frustrating when I was staying on the fourth floor and had to wait quite a while for an elevator rather than walk up. Hopefully, the elevator issue will be fixed soon.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was especially helped by Oscar at the front desk and Pam in the breakfast area, but all staff members I encountered were upbeat and ready to lend a hand.

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite with king bed for three nights in late January. Andrea checked us in. I imagine checking people in and out of a hotel all day can be mind numbing but Andrea genuinely made you feel like she had been waiting just for you to arrive. I was impressed by her attitude that I noted her name so I could mention it in the review. She also greeted us coming and going from the hotel.
The room was amply stocked with towels and washcloths. Room was clean and the furnishings were in good shape. The room was very quiet compared to others I’ve been in, no noise from adjacent rooms or the room above. Some people have complained about the fire station across the corner and the noise of the emergency vehicles leaving. We were aware of them, but it didn’t really have much of an impact on our comfort level. Only hear them once in the middle of the night. If you’re a light sleeper I’d bring ear plugs but otherwise it’s not like fire trucks are blaring past every other minute.
This isn’t really a negative for us, but if you want a dazzling city view you won’t get it at this property. But if you want to be close to Michigan Avenue and almost everything in River North this is a great location - pretty much in the center of it all. Great restaurants within one to three blocks walking.
The breakfast was adequate but appreciated. Pre-formed processed omelets, bacon, Turkey sausage. There was oatmeal, dry cereal, oranges and bananas (ripe, not green, yay!).
Would definitely return to this property.

I'd like to start my reviews with something positive. I have to say the staff here are great shout out to YOLO who made us feel very welcome and Bella who was very willing to help. The location is ideal it's within a mile of almost everything you want to do downtown. We had the corner suite which was like a small apartment very roomy and very comfortable. Also the beds and pillows were very comfortable. Now for the negative part. There were some issues when we got there but they were addressed. Fairly quickly. It's an older hotel an older rooms so some of the stuff was kind of beat up. One of the lamps was missing a knob and we were told they didn't have a replacement which was weird so we had to plug and unplug the lamp when we wanted to use it. I like it cool at night so we had to crank up the air conditioning for the bedroom to cool off enough. There were a couple other things too but like I said their staff addressed all the issues. The worst part was the noise it's next door to the fire department which apparently gets a lot of business. Saturday night and Sunday night it went off about five times through the middle of the night horns honking sirens blaring and because the buildings are tall the sound bounces off and it sounds like they're in your room. We were on the third floor so I don't know if it's quieter on a higher floor. Several nights there was motorcycles revving their engine at the light in front of the hotel which again in the middle of the night was bouncing off the buildings in woke us up. They seem to calm down during the week some so that was good. The hotel does keep earplugs available which we did use but honestly it wasn't enough to drown the sound out. I would suggest if you stay here bring noise canceling headphones if you want to sleep. It's really a shame because other than that we really like the hotel and we really like the location. Also there's a restaurant in the hotel I would steer clear of it. It got extremely noisy on a Friday night it was packed. And it is very expensive. Most of the food was so so. There's so many places to eat in Chicago that are better. We did not use the pool. My husband used the fitness room he said that was good. Breakfast is on the second floor we had the third floor so that was handy we were only one floor down on the elevator. Breakfast is typical Hampton and breakfast all the same items we usually get. We had a full kitchen in our room so we were able to bring things back to our room to eat.

Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review! We’re so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the staff service, and we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to Yolo and Bella. It’s also wonderful to know that you appreciated the spacious corner suite, the comfortable beds, and the hotel's ideal location. We truly apologize for the noise disruptions you experienced due to the nearby fire department and other outside factors. We completely understand how challenging it can be for light sleepers, and we appreciate your suggestions regarding noise-canceling headphones. While the location is certainly convenient, we’re sorry that these external factors affected your sleep. We’re also grateful for your patience and understanding as our team addressed the issues during your stay. We’ll also take note of your feedback regarding the restaurant, and we’re glad your husband enjoyed the fitness room. Thank you again for your valuable comments and for bringing the issues to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a more peaceful experience during your next visit! Best, Octaviano Gonzalez Rooms Director

My husband and 2 children (4 and 6) stayed here for 2 nights in a one bedroom corner suite after reading good reviews about the hotel being accommodating and family friendly. While we were initially pleased with the room and the hotel overall, we ended up being very disappointed with our experience at this particular property.
Pros:
The corner suite was a perfect set up for a family with two kids. Plenty of space for the kids to play, a kitchen, and dining room, and a bedroom that could be closed off so adults could enjoy the living space after kids went to bed.
Indoor pool- on the smaller side, but fine for small kids. It was quite crowded every time we went, and the second day we went the water was too cold for the kids.
The price was great for what we got, and the hotel seemed clean and mostly updated
We wanted to love the hotel based on the room layout, but our experience went downhill very quickly once we actually tried to go to sleep, which is where the cons come in..
Cons-
The noise level was unlike any hotel I have ever stayed at. Partly my own fault for not discovering on my own before booking, but the hotel is RIGHT next to the fire station, so prepare for sirens and horns blaring constantly, including throughout the middle of the night. Not great for anyone trying to sleep, especially young kids. Our room, 619, looked directly out to the fire station so I would avoid this room/side of the hotel at all costs.
Second, and something I could not have anticipated, was the noise from the furnace. The furnace cracked, popped, banged and kept us all awake into the middle of the night until I got out of bed at 2am and turned it off completely, which oddly enough only partially helped, but resulted in a freezing cold room. As a result, my entire family was freezing cold and very tired due to the lack of sleep and inability to use the furnace. We brought a sound machine from home because my kids are used to sleeping with one, but between the sirens blaring and the furnace rattling and banging all night, it was a lost cause.
When I mentioned the noise to the front desk, I was given a blank stare and was told "Sorry about the noise".
Sadly, I cannot recommend this hotel as a result of two sleepless nights here due to noise- the fire trucks could maybe be partially blocked out with a noise machine and earplugs, but the noisy furnace was impossible to block out and should be repaired.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback, and I am truly sorry that your experience fell short of expectations. I can understand how frustrating it must have been for you and your family to deal with both the noise from the fire station and the issues with the furnace during your stay. We do appreciate that the corner suite and the amenities such as the indoor pool were ideal for your family, but I sincerely regret that the noise disruptions, particularly with the fire station sirens and the furnace, negatively impacted your stay. I want to assure you that we take such issues very seriously, and I will personally address the furnace noise issue with our maintenance team to ensure it is looked into and resolved. As for the fire station, while we cannot control the location, we always try to be upfront with our guests regarding this concern, and I apologize if it wasn't made clear enough at the time of booking. Thank you again for bringing these issues to our attention. I truly hope you’ll give us another chance in the future so we can provide a much more restful experience for you and your family Best, Arlette Yolo Front Office Supervisor

We spent 5 nights at this hotel having chosen it for two reasons. My daughter stayed here a few months earlier and was happy with her experience and the location was what we needed. We arrived late after a flight delay, but the staff member was gracious and helpful at check in. He advised us that the hotel would only provide routine housekeeping on the fourth day of our stay, but that we could request extra service or anything we needed. The staff at the breakfast did an amazing job. Breakfast was busy, but the kept everything stocked, fresh, and looking good. They stayed cheerful and frequently offered help in spite of dealing with crowds. There were plenty of places to sit. The room itself had very comfortable beds and nice linens and plenty of fluffy towels. The room and elevators are showing some wear and damage, so it is clearly time for a little refurbishing, but everything was clean and in working order. We had two disappointments. Housekeeping did not show up on the fourth day, and we needed a few things and trash removal. I called the desk late afternoon and got and apology and was told someone would come. However, no one did. That night I stopped at the desk and was told that housekeeping is only provided on request. Not only were we told differently, but there was also a sign on the bath mirror saying the fourth day. I was not a big deal, since he gave me what we needed, but being in the room for five nights without expected service was unfortunate. We were also very sorry to be told "We don't do that here", when I asked where I could find recycling. We hate trashing recyclables and brought home what we could. Overall, it was still a good stay but we would like to see them do a little better. But the breakfast staff deserve a lot of praise. Also, in all fairness, the hotel was very crowded with a lot of families.

This is one of the best stays I had at a hotel! Received a message from Jody from the hotel in the morning before we arrived, asking if anything they could do. Explained that we were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and they gave us a great suite upgrade, left a very nice card in the room for her and recommended a very nice restaurant close by to celebrate. I appreciate very much the attention to small details like those, which is what makes the stay and hotel memorable. Jody and the whole staff were excellent! The room was very clean, very confortable and at a great location. We walked to a lot of places and was very safe.

We had an early check in fee the first day and valet parking fee for the 2 days we stayed. Otherwise only taxes with room rate.
Unfortunately it doesn't. My fiance & I were looking forward to one. Even without the hot tub itself, the heated pool was extremely relaxing.
Breakfast is served from 7am to 10am.
Pools is open 7am-10pm
