We drove up to look at fall leaves and needed a place to stay. We were not looking for anything extravagant. Every place was booked. I call the Valhalla resort and Tammy was wonderful. She a 1 penthouse suite left. This place is beautiful and tucked away. Welcoming champagne, great food and drinks, very comfortable beds , awesome shower and clean linens. The best part was in the Morning when we opened the drapes was the moist beautiful palette of autumn color we were hoping yo see. Right in the backyard!! Sometimes the most unexpected destinations are the best!!! We will definitely be returning and taking part of all the amenities this resort has!! Thank you again!!
I stayed here because a wedding was being hosted on site. The staff is super nice, but there seems to be a lack of training or something. I can't put my finger on it. If you ask someone for help with anything, they will! But 9 times out of 10 you are asking them for something that would be a given at a nice resort and already provided for you (does that make sense?). Not what I would expect from a place that's $400/night. The rooms are nice. Everything else seems odd and out of place. Oh, also.... pretty sure the rooms in the hotel are maybe bigger than the bungalows. Don't pay extra for the bungalows unless you really want a bathtub. Would not recommend trying to have your wedding here. It was almost a disaster and the onsite wedding/event planners are not qualified. It's too far from "in town" Helen to walk and there are no Lyfts or Ubers, so getting back to the property is a mess for a group of people. Everything about this place just seems off.…
A beautiful resort if you don't mind scorpions in your bed. When we called down to report this intruder, the response was "This is the mountains". Hmmm, not if housekeeping had done their job. We scooped up the offender in a container, dropped it off at the front desk and couldn't get out of there fast enough.
My husband and I stayed here Thursday through Sunday for my 40th birthday. It was AMAZING! From my awesome massage with LeAnna to our fabulous waiters Colin and MaryClaire, we had such a great time. Honestly we didn’t really know what to expect and I can say hands down one of the BEST vacations we have ever had. The people were amazing and down to earth and had us cracking up the whole time. The scenery was outstanding and the food was top notch. Especially the cookies.
Valhalla Resort is one of the finest hotels we have stayed including those that cost several times more and Valhalla is not cheap. The staff makes the hotel and every one we came in contact with was cheerful and more than accommodating. The deluxe king room was quite comfortable and relaxing with a great balcony view. We stayed for three days and ate every meal at the hotel even though we had planned to try others, as it was that good. I cannot finish with out complimenting the bar tender who makes a great "old fashion" and don't miss the Sky Bar.
Valhalla is the place you want to stay when visiting Helen, GA. This facility is extremely clean and well laid out. The food was much better than we expected! The chef is amazing and even sent out a sweet treat at the end of our meal for my birthday. Is was a delicious surprise! But above the cleanliness and great food was the fantastic service! Everyone we interacted with was very kind and friendly. They actually seemed to be happy that we were there! The only complaint I have is the bottom of the pool was not clean. However, this did not stop us from enjoying the water. I would highly recommend staying here. I hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
My husband and I planned a getaway for our 21st wedding anniversary. I called the front desk manager weeks before coming, to discuss the fact that we needed relaxation and were coming for an anniversary getaway. We talked at length about the townhomes, as she said the hotel was offering a special rate to drum up more interest in the townhomes. I specifically asked if the hotel owned the townhomes and if they were cleaned by the hotel. She said they were. She said it would be the romantic, relaxing, luxurious stay I said I wanted. On her recommendation, I booked a stay for 3 nights. The day before our stay, I called to check on my request for an end unit, to have a quieter experience. Only then did she tell me that the townhomes are not owned by the hotel - rather they are owned by individual owners. I was very upset at not being told the truth initially. However, it was the day before leaving and we decided to move ahead, as the front desk manager again assured me it would be clean and well maintained. We arrived the next day. I have been to many luxury resorts, and every time prior to coming here, the resort staff will at least wish us happy anniversary, have a card/letter, or even send a complimentary gift. Sadly, that didn't happen here. Even though I mentioned our anniversary again at check in, no one said happy anniversary. I just find that oddly lacking in customer service. I will say at the restaurant the next day, several sweet staff members spoke to us and one did say happy anniversary. But that initial lack of customer service was nothing compared to what was in store. The unit they put us in looked lovely and modern. Nicely-appointed and plenty of space. After moving all of our luggage in, going up 2 flights of stairs, I pull back the comforter in the master bedroom. There were dried up, caked-on stains all over the back of the comforter. (see photos) It looked like bodily fluids and was abhorrent and disgusting! After calling and complaining to the front desk, and staff coming to see the comforter and review the situation, only then was I told that each individual owner has their own cleaning crew. So at this point, I am anything but relaxed. I will say that management gave us a discount because of this, which I appreciated. However, I would rather have a clean room, and an upfront representation of the property arrangement. After seeing that comforter, I didn't trust that anything had been properly cleaned in that unit. We insisted on moving to another unit and the staff helped us with our luggage. Overall the next unit seemed cleaner, though there were hairs in the bathroom and the toilet in the 2nd bedroom wasn't clean. However, we didn't use that restroom, cleaned up the hairs in the master bathroom, and decided to stay. The air conditioning unit kept spiking temperatures. I turned it down, it rose right back up within an hour. This happened all night, and I barely slept because it was so hot upstairs. That next morning I let the front desk manager know about the A/C, and she insisted that the owner of the unit had set it to hold at 68 degrees and it would stay at that temperature. We left for the day. When we arrived, upstairs was incredibly hot. The A/C did not stay at 68, and instead spiked. I was upset, as it seemed again what she said was not true. I called and complained. The GM and manager came to the unit, got on the phone with the owner, and set each individual A/C . I told the GM it is important to let people know these units are owned by someone else from the beginning (it is not on their website) and that the renters can not control the A/C - only the owner. That is a huge deal in this sweltering Georgia heat. So again, my relaxing time for my anniversary with my husband has now been interrupted consistently for 2 days with staff in and out of our space. They offered to move us to the hotel, and again completely inconvenience us. We declined at this point, praying that the A/C would work as they stated it would. I also didn't want to go to the hotel and end up with another unclean room. After they left, the A/C did stop holding and spiked the following morning, but I noticed it was quickly reset to 68 degrees by someone remotely. Also, the curtains are incredibly sheer, so the sunshine greets you first thing in the morning. There are no darkened curtains that allow you to sleep in. We had to drape a blanket over the curtains so the room would stay dark in the morning. We tried to enjoy what little time we had left on our anniversary trip. We haven't had a vacation as a couple all year, and after saving up to come and having such huge expectations, I was beyond upset by this. I've seen such positive reviews of this resort. But those are just for the hotel, not townhomes. Be aware. The units are modern, sizeable, and have pretty views out front. I would have recommended it more for a family than a couple seeking a romantic excursion. But with all we went through, I don't have confidence in the type of experience I would receive, or how clean it would be, at a townhome. Overall, the resort just did a horrible job with our stay. Here are my recommendations: 1) Be Honest. If you don't own the property, say that. It's important for people to set expectations based on honest information. 2) Work on customer service. It costs nothing to wish someone Happy anniversary or acknowledge their special event. As a luxury property, that should be second nature. 3) Clean. Your. Own. Units. Stained comforters, with the stains hidden on the underside so it can't be seen initially, is hideous. If I am paying you money to stay at these units, I have no desire to hear about how the owner's cleaning crew didn't do a good job. Your cleaning crew should have checked to ensure the unit was ready. I didn't stay at an Airbnb because I wanted a specific experience. Your lack of disclosure completely failed to provide that. I felt like I was at an Airbnb with a middle man. I was incredibly disappointed by this experience. Would it have been better if we stayed in a suite in the hotel? I don't know. If the front desk manager was honest from the beginning and said that the townhomes were not owned or cleaned by the hotel, I wouldn't have chosen that option for this trip. If you want to stay in a townhome, I recommend you know what you are getting into. And thoroughly check under the covers and between the sheets before hopping in.…
We arranged to stay for our anniversary. The Hotel was better than I expected, certainly more upscale than any other place in the area. The staff were excellent. Truly friendly and no question got a short answer. The room was in very good condition with lots of AC receptacles available. We stayed in early Spring so can't speak to the pool area. The restaurant was quite good too. Great Wine list.
This is an immaculately maintained hotel with a soothing atmosphere. The bed in our room was incredibly comfortable. The hotel was quiet. The location is amazing; close to the shops and parks in Helen but far enough away to experience the quiet of the countryside. The staff was very friendly and eager to make our stay enjoyable. If you are seeking a relaxing destination near interesting shops and challenging hiking trails, this is it.
Wonderful experience all the way around! From the champagne welcome, to the amazing staff we were blown away and will certainly return on our next trip to Helen. The rooms were well appointed and we had a fabulous view from our balcony. The restaurant on the main level was amazing, and probably the best in the area. Highly recommend!
