The hotel is outstanding. The rooms are very large and extremely quiet. Our room had two queen beds, large screen TV, plush carpet, adequate storage, walk in shower, a separate room with a door for the toilet and double sinks. There was a large window that overlooked the pool. The pool is zero entry and has lifeguards. There are several restaurants on the property including a Starbucks and a casual eatery with pizza and sandwiches. You get free Universal Express passes that allow you to skip several lines. You may take a 15 minute walk to the parks or take a free boat shuttle. Unfortunately there is a parking fee of $27 per day. This is a great place that is modeled after Portofino Italy. We will definitely return

If not for the express passes, I wouldn't stay here again. The food options at the hotel themselves are way too expensive and way too extreme over-the-top fancy. What's wrong with having at least one restaurant that just has normal food without having to need to Google to see what several of the ingredients are? I reported several issues with our room such as slow draining shower and a leaky faucet that would not stop dripping as well as an air conditioning system that would not seemingly go below 80 degrees none of this was resolved... However on day one I did ask for two additional towels and they decided to give me two additional towels every 12 hours or so on my door.... this Resort is overpriced expensive for what it is but Express passes pretty much makeup for the price difference if you stayed somewhere else

I have stayed at the Portofino several times in the past as it's our favorite resort at Universal. When I booked the room over the phone, I had no idea the deluxe rooms were remodeled. When I arrived the first day, the room that overlooked the bay was pretty dated and not very clean. I requested a room change. I was then put into a room almost identical to the one I had just left except instead of overlooking the bay, this one overlooked a sidewalk and side of a building. I was also charged $40 extra a night bc the room was a "deluxe". I went back down and talked to the front desk who didn't seem to happy about my requests for yet a different room but I asked to see the room first before moving again (my family had already unpacked and we had already moved once) but I wasn't allowed to. At that point, I was so frustrated and in tears I no longer had any desire to even try to move. I was shocked that a resort like Portofino couldn't have been accommodating to my needs as much money as I've spent staying there over the years.

Only a 5 minute boat ride from the parks was heavenly, especially when you're tired of walking in the sun all day and don't want to have to hoof it through City Walk and a parking lot to get back to a car to only then start the drive back to your room. The hotel definitely gets 5 stars for the comfort of the bed. It felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.

We just returned from a GREAT couple of days at Universal Orlando where we enjoyed the hospitality of the Portofino Bay Hotel, you really must give this hotel a try. Check-in was a little stiff but efficient but from there nothing but smiles. This hotel has been in the process of renovations and the room we stayed in was FANTASTIC, there is just a touch of work remaining but nothing that would interfere with your stay. We made Club Level reservation, I recommend it as it does save time and maybe a little money. The menu isn't anything to get excited about but what is offered there is plenty of and by the way there is no lunch. Coffee, water and soda are yours for the taking throughout the day. I would like to see a bit more depth in the menu, one food item with some sides is a very limited choice. There are restaurants on the property even a Starbucks if the in-room coffee isn't enough. The Portofino has a couple of pools, Hill Side, small and quite, The Villa, which is adult oriented with cabanas, lounge chairs and gardens. And of course there is the family pool with music a water slide other type of activities, there is a restaurant and Life Guards are on duty which the other pools do not have. Access to the thyme parks is a short boat ride or walk away and you are right at the front gate of Universal Studios. Remember when you stay at one of the Loews on site hotels Express Passes are included. We always buy Park to Park tickets because we like to travel between the two parks on the Hogwarts train departing station landing 9 3/4 arriving at Hogsmeade Station. On pricing, this hotel may be a bit more expensive then the other on site hotels but it is a big step above them in the way of look, service and feel. We've stayed at the Royal Pacific a bunch of times and like it a lot but it is much more family minded then the Portofino (not that families can't enjoy this hotel, they do) and as a couple we feel it's worth a few dollars more. So if you're looking for a great stay at Universal Orlando I'd recommend Loews Portofino Hotel.
