There were times during our stay when the fog was so thick we could barely see the ocean... but we could hear it and it was 30 degrees colder back home... so where's the down side?

We have made The Salty Mermaid our annual getaway beach fix for four years now in early May. There are only 5 beautifully fitted rooms so if you go with 5 couples it’s the perfect place to party with friends. You have the whole place and waterfront yard to yourselves. Each year we’ve been so impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms, the bed/linens, and Lisa, the owner bends over backwards to make sure you have everything you need to make your stay enjoyable (including beach chairs& towels, fridge/microwave, lots of ice, corn-hole games, golf cart rentals….it goes on and on!). HIGHLY RECOMMEND - and that’s been 4 stays without anything to complain about!

There are not enough words to describe this amazing chic and posh hidden gem. My significant other and I are frontline workers during the Covid 19 crisis and really needed an escape. It also just happened to be my birthday (a pretty significant one) and we had planned to be in Italy but that was a wash. I was starting to feel not only, well old :-), but a little depressed. I was at work one day in the ER about a week prior to the big day and thought "well my favorite place in Florida is The Salty Mermaid." I emailed Lisa who is the heart and soul of the place and she surprisingly said they had a room available. My heart was overjoyed. My bday and sanity were salvaged. The Mermaid (as we call it) has only 5 rooms and a deep back patio / yard area out back with loungers, a fire pit, and corn hole games overlooking the scenic ocean. You're just a few blocks from Flagler Ave where all the cute shops and restaurants are located. It's perfect in every way. Janice makes sure you have all the amenities you need and if you so desire you can rent a bicycle and go for rides on the beach and around the island, or even a golf cart. Lisa is amazing and will make sure your stay is perfect. So check it out but we warned you may get hooked on the Mermaid!!

What a fantastic find! On the beach, clean and elegant, and reasonably priced. The staff, Jessica,Gabrielle, and Janice were so pleasant and helpful. On top of a great room, a great view, close proximity to restaurants, we rented bikes and a golf cart from them. High class place. Really loved the Salty Mermaid and will definitely return.

We wanted to get away for a night and The Salty Mermaid was the perfect location, starting with the very easy check in with genuinely friendly staff. It was so nice to park the car in front of our unit and walk in to a beautiful room with an amazing view of the courtyard and beach! Sat out on the chairs on the courtyard to watch the sunset and walked the beach at sunrise. The room was beautifully updated, spacious and very clean (thanks to Janice who was also very friendly). Bed was comfortable, shower was hot and with good pressure. We loved that this is a retro beach hotel and with only 5 units which would be perfect for a family reunion or friend get together. We rented bikes right at the hotel. Golf carts also available. Walked to Flagler Avenue for dinner. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend!!

No appropriate Covid precautions. None of the staff wear masks or social distance. Unmasked desk clerk checked me in. She approached me and backed me into a corner to hand me the key. If you are unconcerned about Covid and choose to stay at the Salty Mermaid, be aware that the WiFi is very weak and they use a foul smelling room deodorizer. Can’t imagine what smell they are trying to cover up. Also, if you want to walk the beach in the early morning, you have to run through the irrigation sprinklers to get there. Also was charged for water that was free according to signage.

I am sorry you felt this way about the staff not wearing masks. Volusia county did not have a mask mandate at that time. I wish you would have inquired at the time the reservation was made or prior to arrival. The staff would have worn a mask to make you feel safe. The irrigation system is set to turn on in the middle of the night. I am sorry you chose to walk through the lawn instead of using the sidewalk.

This place just has a vibe that keeps us coming back, I don’t know of anywhere else like it. We live in central Florida and this is the only place to me anyway that feels private and almost like it’s not even a tourist destination. You can drive on the beach so it’s tough with a 1 1/2 year old because they don’t stop moving, with the “backyard” they have he can run around in safety and we the parents still get the beach experience with less worry.

You can not beat the location of the Salty Mermaid. It’s on the beach and near Flagler Ave where the you can shop and dine. The rooms are clean, top notch and very well maintained. There’s even a Blue Tooth speaker-light in the bathroom so you can listen to your favorite tunes while you’re getting ready! The large TV, refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker are nice additions. The bedding is very comfortable, too! The ocean view is absolutely gorgeous and the beachside grounds are like you’re at the Ritz, well kinda, there’s no staff serving morning Mimosas! We’ll be back!

If you can’t make it by the 5:00p in-person check-in time, just let them know ahead, and they’ll make it easy.

Booked a room within 5 days of stay and I had an unfortunate family emergency. I tried to cancel or move my stay and even purchase more nights with the original day I booked. The lady I was in contact with Lisa said she would only cancel or move if she can book the room last minute. The room was never booked in a day and I was still charged $341. Regardless that I was willing to give them more money if they would move it by booking a couple more nights they only cared about the $342. Lisa said they are a small business and couldn’t accommodate my request. They missed out on getting $700 more from me if they would have just moved it. I don’t see this motel lasting very long conducting business in this manner. I was already asked by several co-workers how was the stay I explained what happen. They all live nearby just like I do and are spreading the word on not staying at this motel. A little kindness in this world goes a long way and if we do good in this world good eventually comes back to us all. I don’t like to wish anything negative upon anyone but my story put off a lot of people in the nearby area. Good luck salty mermaid and Lisa.

I am sorry you do not agree with my cancellation policy. You were aware of it when you made the reservation and also when you cancelled the day before your arrival date. I did offer to try and sell the room and refund you, if the room sold. Unfortunately, it did not sell. I really went out of my way to help you without hurting myself. This is my business and I take it seriously. You DID ask to move the reservation WITH a credit, for the Friday night that you cancelled, as long as you purchased a new night and would stay for 2 using the CREDIT for the 2nd night. I would then be out the revenue for two nights while you pay for one. I don't know of any business owner that would agree to your request and go to the lengths that I did to help you. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

We loved the location of this property and the beachfront location. All was good, except we had to check out early because hurricane Nicole was on its way. The lady who originally gave us our key upon check in was busy preparing rooms as they were moving outdoor furniture into the rooms because of the hurricane. We went to the office which was full of bikes, stored for the storm. We didn't want to leave the key on the desk so we gave it to the same lady who cleaned the units. Weeks later we got a call asking for key and we explained we gave key to her. When we.got home to Canada, we saw a charge from them on my credit card
..no explanation..called and messaged twice. No response. We think it's a key charge. These people do not communicate. We were expecting to stay here every year plus recommend to our friends. NO WAY!!

What a lovely hotel! We stayed for one night and I wish we stayed for more. It’s kitschy and cute, and the patio doors opened to the most beautiful view of the ocean. Parking was included, and we were able to walk to a variety of fun bars and restaurants. Good wifi and a comfy bed as well.

Make sure that you pay attention to the check in times as it’s quite limited. Our booking site said check in was 2-5 pm, but we were informed upon arrival that check in was 1-4 pm. Not a big issue but something to keep an eye on. We would happily return.
