I’m almost afraid to post this, don’t want more people finding this gem, might make it harder to get a room. We’ve been going to Indian Rocks beach since we lived in Largo in mid 90’s. There used to be many mom and pop motels but hurricanes and economy took them away. We stayed here first time, so very impressed. Everything was done above and beyond expectations. Reasonably priced, perfect location, close to beach. We’ve already made two more reservations. We live in Ocala, very close to many beaches but won’t go anywhere else but Indian Rocks beach & Great Heron.

This will be the first place I visit when it's safe after the COVID-19. I have never had a bad experience. The rooms are very clean and well furnished even down to the dishes and kitchen utensils and equipment. Step right outside your door and you are at the pool, with a few more steps down to the pristine sand and a few yards to the beach. Parking is a little tight but the view of sunset and sunrise, if you are so inclined, is exceptional. There are visiting herons several times a day and the staff throw fish to them. The pool is sparkling clean as are the rooms. Staff goes out of their way to make sure you are comfortable. They even left us a box of Ferre Rocher candy on one of our visits! Perfect for couples or families or just a get-away for one, if you need it!

I always ask for the gulf front view room! The rooms are sparkling clean and Teena, the owner, tries to make sure there is at least one night between guests after cleaning and sanitizing. I think of this place as my home away from home. The kitchen is totally outfitted with everything I need if I want to cook my meals in my apartment. The beds are comfy, the room smell great and clean and I'm even given beach towels upon arrival. I can use their umbrellas, too. Fun to meet new friends as well!

This is my first time staying at the great heron inn and I had a wonderful stay. It was right by the beach, they had a small pool, and the staff was friendly and helpful.
The motel and room was clean and it’s close to some of the local restaurants and bars. I liked that it was located in a quiet area so I felt safe during my stay.
The motel is also near a CVS and the bus stop which can take you to north to downtown Clearwater or south to John’s pass, treasure island, and the bus transfer by 75th and Gulf blvd takes you to downtown St. Petersburg.
I recommend staying here for a quiet, relaxing, and friendly atmosphere.

one of the best experience i had, location is excellent, quiet cozy, 5 minutes from restaurants and just a blink from the beach. The room is accommodating 3 persons easy with a full kitchen, bathroom and a good size living room. Personal is friendly and jovial and Teena is hands on all you need just to ask. Overall i think i find my preferred spot on Florida

After four rooms were booked one couple had to cancel, and received a full refund, another of us has to leave a day early, and that day's charge was removed from our bill! Our hosts could not have been more gracious, accommodating, and supportive. Because we have family living in Largo the location right on the beach just South of 688 is perfect! They have an outdoor shower and nice pool that's perfect for the occasional post ocean dip, and while the rooms have older furniture and decor everything is very clean and totally functional! There are several restaurants within walking distance, especially a great place for Cuban sandwiches! We have been staying at the Great Heron for decades, and will continue to do so.!

Great Heron Inn is a place we have returned to many times. The rooms are spacious, huge bedrooms, living area, and fully equipped kitchens. It is small enough that you never feel crowded, every room facing the pooland gardens. Just a short walk past the dunes to an uncrowded beach. Teena, the owner is as friendly and helpful as possible. Many restaurants and shops within walking distance.

I almost cried. After 23 years, I came back with my beautiful wife on our anniversary. Didn’t know what to expect. As soon as we arrived (past midnight) I knew I was ‘home’. We dropped our bags in the room and immediately ran onto the beach. We just reveled in the moonlight’s beauty and the sound of the waves.
The Heron Inn is right on the beach. The views from the gulf side are amazing and the beach is clean. The rooms have a full kitchen with just about everything one needs. There is a clean pool that is in the courtyard. There are chairs that can be taken to the beach. There is even a barbecue available. Everyone is respectful of each other. No late night music and everyone picks up after themselves.
For my wife and me, it was a much needed retreat. It was a short 3 night stay. Even though we came from California, the long trip was well worth it.
Teena (the owner) is the best. We will see you this coming December, Teena!!

The Great Heron Inn is a hidden gem on Indian Rocks Beach in Florida. The owners and staff are very friendly and extremely accommodating; the apartments are cozy, comfortable and clean; the beach is just a few steps from the hotel and is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. The hotel is in a great location, just a few minutes walk to beach stores and restaurants. Our stay was wonderful and we can’t wait to come back next year!

at the last minute my husband and I had to come to Indian Rocks Beach from Sarasota. my niece had flown in and wanted me to see her baby girl just born. I planned a several hour visit then we were going to drive back to Sarasota before it got dark at 5:30. The kids had no room for us to stay overnight. Little did we know that morning there would be a deadly fog alert throughout the gulf coast!!! Despite major anxiety I started looking at nearby hotels. Time was running out on me. we had to start the drive up on I75 in the fog. By a miracle, I contacted Tina and told her my predicament. She got us a room and accommodated us to get there after hours. She was an angel watching over us. After the visit and seeing my baby girl, the fog was still bad. but we only had to drive a quarter mile and we arrived at the Inn. The one bedroom suite was totally amazing!!! beautifully decorated, extremely clean and neat. We slept beautifully!! The next morning we signed out and Carol was amazingly gracious! there is a trolley.
google drivers from st. pete. that's what i did. it's not a fortune $35 maybe plus tip. and they are waiting for you. it takes about 20 min to get to the heron.
you will love teena and the heron. tell her dee and george say hi and will see her in april. apartments, great beach and walking distance to restaurants. love crabby bills.
when are you going? i'm going to see if i can find the driver we used last time. we will be there april 8th-12th.
Thanks and at present, we are sanitizing/cleaning with approved cleaning products and units are quarantined before and after guest's stays. We are currently maintaining 6ft distances and 50% capacity of pool. Outside visitors are very limited to prevent crossing through Hotel premises. Let us know if we can be of service
The apartments are designed for 2-3 people. I think 3 is the limit. They do have a beautiful 3 bedroom which can sleep 6. You pay $15 extra for the third person in the 1-bedroom.
There are more places to choose from in the Indian Rocks Beach area.
