Rooms clean, hot water nonexistent except for at 4:00 AM when departing on early flight a bath towel bigger than 2 hand towels would be nice. coffee not in room and available first night. Breakfast barely edible, other meals barely acceptable. Staff very friendly and helpful

Very hot stuffy room, even the floor was baking hot. One bottle of water for two people, the TV channels were Indonesian the only English channel being RT. As there was only scalding hot water for a shower we had to move rooms. They upgraded us to a bungalow which are K1000 per night.........ridulous! Two aircons and two fans managed to cool the bedroom only. The restaurant is a large open area with fans only, average menu with mainly meat dishes, vegetarian options are slim and a pizza will set you back K80. You will be hit with the usual PNG 5% charge if you use a credit card.

First impressions of this place is that it must've been a good one when it was built. In 1970 or something. Outside of the aircons, it doesn't seem that much else has been updated since the builders rolled in. Let's call the rooms quaint. Kind of like a grandads Safari suit that has been sitting in the shed. The couches in the bungalow are ripped. The restaurant is slow and the food is terrible but apart from this place the options are quite limited. 35 Kina for a plate of wedges- jeepers that's $15 AUD. I'm not trying to upsell anything, but the surf lodge located 10mins out of town was half the price and included 3 meals and two beers. Only thing was that it didn't have aircon. So all in all, it was a cute place, in need of some investment, and a value-price analysis required for the restaurant and room rate but hey, it's in a town off the beaten track and nothing everything is expensive with limited options in PNG.

Vanimo Beach Hotel (vbhotel@online.net.pg) / Phone: (+675) 4571102 or 4571310 is located in front of a white sand beach.
It’s quiet expensive for what you get!
Rooms are simple, aircon works but there’s not power from 2PM to 6PM. Some days you get power only after 6.30 PM.
Staff is very kind and helpful.
Expect to pay:
550 PGK for superior deluxe room (breakfast not including)
425 PGK for deluxe room (breakfast not including)
888 PGK for bungalow (breakfast including).
Bungalows have a small terrace with some chairs and table. It seems bigger and quieter because a little bit away from the street.
Vanimo beach Hotel has a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They serve big portion. It's not too expensive and food is OK.
(They charge 3 % for payment by credit card).

Hotel is expensive and very basic. But it's clean and the air-con works. The restaurant has a good view over the beach, although the service is very slow - particularly on a Wednesday night when the Air Niugini flight is often delayed. Staff are really helpful - especially in the event of aforementioned flight delays!

I can't comment on the rooms - but the restaurant is actually pretty good. Huge portions, fresh food. Simple fare - but if you're hungry and want a big feed, they will hook you up. Cold beer, too! Suggest the Halo-halo for dessert!

Stayed in a standard air conditioned room which was spacious, two large beds, bathroom amenities were not working, food was average and over priced. Short walk along the beach to the town and nearest ATM. However the beach front views were beautiful and the staff were friendly.

I hadn't been here in six years, and was embarrassed to bring an overseas friend here. The rooms haven't been upgraded since I was last here. The floor in the room had possibly not been cleaned since then either-- it was uncomfortable walking barefoot in the room.

The restaurant food was once ok, but is now inedible. I left half of my food on the plate and went around the corner to the Vanimo Surf to eat.

An old hotel however still is one of the only hotel in Vanimo that will cater for good local food. Staff friendly and presentable.
The only problem is that the hotel needs a good up keep, no WiFi
If you are into smoking, hotel is just along the beach.
Recommended for over night stay.

I had a friendly welcome after travelling all day and overland from Jayapura. I was given a very large single room. The bed was uncomfortable, the bathroom could have been cleaner and there were cockroaches in the room.
The walls were paper thin and not only could I clearly hear the tv from next door, but when the gentleman was sleeping, he may as well have been in bed with me as it his snoring seemed to be right in my ear.
On the plus side, I had a small bottle of water and a kettle that came with the room.

Overall, I did not feel as though I had value for money as the rooms I later had in CBC's were cleaner, fresher and cheaper.
I travelled in November 2014
