Based on reviews here on TripAdvisor, we stayed at the Rochester Hotel during a quick trip to Durango last weekend. Don't be fooled by the outside which doesn't look particularly impressive....It's an old rooming house... The place is just right! Our accommodations were upgraded to a suite free of charge and we found every aspect of our stay to be enjoyable. The home made cookies (at least I think they were), put out in the afternoon were warm and delicious. Breakfast was excellent...I kept going back for more miniature scones! We really enjoyed the Rochester Hotel. It's a very clean and well decorated property. Breakfast is very good and presented very nicely, and rooms are all decorated differently with a lot of charm and good taste. The location, a block away from main street, is great, with many fine restaurants within walking distance. The lovely garden is nice in the summer, private parking is a plus, and the staff is efficient and cordial. We hope to stay there again!
After 5 nights "roughing it" in pretty bad motels, this place was fabulous! The room was huge, with 2 big beds, a fainting sofa, and other antique furniture. The bathroom was big and modernized. The "hotel" (really an old fashioned inn) is right near the main strip of stores and restaurants, but back one block so very quiet. A lovely common area has cookies and tea in the afternoon, and a great (hot) breakfast in the morning. Absolutely no complaints about anything - I'd stay there again in a minute.
