We stayed at Durango Lodge Sep 5-7 2020, labor day weekend. Recommendation from TripAdvisor was good so we were surprised at our unpleasant experience. It is an independently owned motel -Owners are Jeffrey and Judith Miller. As mentioned in previous reviews, location is excellent and rooms were adequate and clean. Office staff was not competent in solving problems in a timely fashion or even reassuring us that they would be solved. Also safety measures (masks) were not followed, which the city of Durango requires. Our 2 problems - 1) police were called because a guest in an adjoining room was throwing objects at the wall. We hoped it was furniture and not a body. We heard an angry male voice. I called the front desk and Brian said that he would take care of it. He called me back about 15 minutes later and said that the occupants were gone and that I should hear nothing more from that room. About 15-30 minutes later the pounding and shouting started again. I called Brian again and he said "they must have come back". He didn't say that he was calling the police but I assumed he was and as I watched thru the keyhole I saw the police in the hall. There was silence after about 15 minutes and no word from Brian but also no more disturbance. I fell asleep from exhaustion. Next morning I mentioned the incident to the person at the front desk who knew nothing - except that it "must have been a domestic disturbance". This was a very unpleasant first for us who have been travelling for 50 years in budget accomodations. Problem 2) Our keys didn't work on last night of our stay. This is not unusual but what was unusual was that Kelly evidentally didn't know how to work the key machine and was going to have to call for help. Finally after about 10 minutes she gave me a loaner key and allowed us to use it until we returned from dinner. Ninety minutes later I called the office to see if keys were fixed. She said yes. I suggested that she bring them to our room so that we could know immediately that the problem was fixed, which it was. Taking initiative to reassure the guest when there are problems is a major part of customer service. I give the Durango Lodge an "F". There was a very small office/breakfast room. Guests came in without masks to pick up breakfast. The cleaning staff also did not all wear masks. We had the option of daily cleaning which we declined. We asked that cleaning staff not enter our room except to replace towels and empty waste baskets. Another "F" awarded to Durango Lodge for lack of safety and lack of enforcing consideration for other guests.…

The Durango Lodge is in a perfect location for exploring Old Town Durango. It is also a very comfortable and clean place to stay. We were there for only one night but could have easily stayed more based on the comfort of the room. A continental breakfast is provided in the lobby of the hotel and you can take it back to your room. The staff were extremely friendly as were the owners. We walked back and forth to Old Town several times and it was nice to have dinner within walking distance. We did not take advantage of the hot tub or pool but they looked inviting.

Stayed one night here. Room was very clean, and beds were comfortable. Didn’t have the best views on our side of the building. Only thing we didn’t like too much was breakfast, as there wasn’t much to eat. Location is great, walking distance to nearby restaurants and the Durango and Silverton railroad. Would stay here again.

We were passing through town when our vehicle threw an error code, and we had to wait a couple of days for a part. We have stayed at so many hotels and motels and lodges and resorts that we have lost count. This is one of the best. The hotel is clean, beds are super-comfortable, location is excellent, staff is friendly and helpful, rate is reasonable. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again if we come back to this area.
