The Mining Exchange Hotel garners appreciation for its distinctive and stylish accommodations, with many guests commending the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, despite some noting their compact size. The staff is frequently celebrated for their exceptional service, contributing to the overall positive atmosphere of the hotel. Travelers are charmed by the historical aspects and vibrant communal spaces, although the buzz of the lobby can sometimes be a bit much.
While the hotel's central location is a highlight, the street noise can occasionally be a drawback. Amenities receive mixed reviews, with the decor and charm praised but some amenities missing.

Detailed Reviews
I traveled during the pandemic and felt that the hotel took many sanitizing precautions: staff wore masks, hand sanitizer was located everywhere. The staff was also very helpful and pleasant. Love the hotel lobby and bar. Great to have Springs Orleans attached and open especially during an unexpected snow storm even with the walkable, downtown location Valet available or a very reasonable garage on the next block. Rooms are clean and updated... loved the shower!

We visited this hotel in celebration of our 10 year anniversary. Upon checking in, our room was not ready. After waiting 45 minutes we told the night manager, Airremus, that we would like to cancel our reservation. Airremus was SUPER professional and offered us a free upgrade to a nicer room, along with some complimentary champagne. What could’ve been a terrible experience, ended up being one of the best stays we’ve ever had at a hotel. Thank you to Airremus for such wonderful customer service.

Travel in covid times is definitely a new experience, but I was very happy with my stay at The Mining Exchange. The room was very clean and quiet and the bed was incredibly comfortable. There are hand sanitizer stations at all elevators and all the employees wore masks. It is so easy to walk a few blocks in any direction and you will have a great selection of food and cute shops all with the backdrop of the beautiful mountains. Lindsey at the front desk was especially helpful with my questions about a few logistics when I was planning a hike and my departure. All in all I enjoyed my time at the Mining Exchange and would love to stay here again in a different non covid time.

We stayed at five hotels during our vacation and they all they all dealt with the Covid problem admirably but no not this hotel. I think they looked at Covid as a great excuse for being terrible. Every other hotel still performed as a hotel, servicing our room daily, emptying the trash answering the phone, cleaning the common areas but the Wyndham did not.
Garbage was piled everywhere, dirty plates were piled in the hallway for days attracting piles of insects, when we asked to have our room cleaned they responded that they could not because of Covid. They over charged us over the "Total to be charged by the Hotel" citing an obscure city "restoration" tax that was not included on our original invoice.
They did not have parking , the closest secure parking was two blocks away at another facility. The coffee creamers were curdled.
I probably wouldn't have expected as much had I realized Wyndham also owns Super 8 and Days Inn but they charge luxury hotel prices.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at The Mining Exchange A Wyndham Grand Hotel & Spa. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. Your feedback is very important to us, and I am saddened to hear that you found dishes piled in the hallways for days as I walk the hallways daily and have yet to every see the issue. Also, all of our fees are listed on all websites including 3rd party websites. Unfortunately we cannot control where they list the fees or even if they include them in the "total". We always recommend that no matter which hotel you book that you always book directly to ensure you get the correct information as well as the best price. I do apologize it was not clearly communicated at check in that we are performing stay over housekeeping service on a request only basis to do our best to ensure the safety and health of our guests and staff alike. We are doing our best to follow guidelines set by Wyndham, our ownership and our County Health Department .Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the issues and prevent any future occurrences. Here at The Mining Exchange, we continuously strive to meet your needs and expectations. We appreciate the time you took to share your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the future.

We stayed here for two nights with our two grown daughters, and had two rooms each night. Some good friends recommended we stay here, and we loved what was done with this unique property. The location is very central to downtown Colorado Springs and the rooms were reasonably spacious and well appointed, with large bathrooms. We also like the modern art in our room and around the hotel.
However, we really had some issues with our room, starting with inadequate air conditioning that never got the room cool at night, to very slow WiFi, even after an upgrade took it offline for a few hours during the first day of our stay. There was also a big hairball in the shower when we got there and the leather on both the desk chair and headboard in our room was extremely worn. In addition, the ice machine on our floor was out the entire stay. It just felt that there hasn’t been proper investments made in the physical plant since the renovation took place a while ago.
The front desk also seemed harried, maybe short staffed due to the pandemic’s challenges of hiring people. As an example, we ordered a cot for one of the nights and we never got it. Our other interactions were with staff who were always very busy and distracted. I would expect this of other hotels but not a four star one. I do want to recognize Mitchell, who was very helpful, as well as the valet staff, who seemed very understaffed at times, but worked hard to take care of our car when requested.

Dear Jon S, Thank you for the kind words regarding your visit. As a hotel, we strive to have all guests have a safe and relaxing visit and as you described, we fell short in several areas. Over the past two weeks, our IT team has made some additional adjustments to our WiFi and guests have noticed a difference. The housekeeping challenges were addressed with the team at meetings last week as this is unacceptable. As you mentioned, staffing is still a challenge around the nation, but we continue to hire quality staff, like Mitchelle and valet, and look forward to having full staff and all outlets open and operating at 100% capacity.

We stayed here one night for a concert at the Pike's Peak Center. Beautiful lobby, very nice staff, and the rooms were good. Not great, but good. Bed was nice and it was quiet. It was clean. The problems I had were in the bathroom. The molding on the door jam toward the bottom was all rotted for at least 6 inches up. The toilet seat was loose and slid off to the side sometimes, and the push button for toilet was falling out of the wall. This is the type of stuff I expect to see in a Motel 6, not a place like this. As bad as that was, most hotels I stay in (and I tend to stay in a few during the year), put a hold of $50.00 or so on your card for incidentals and the like. This place put a hold on both rooms I booked for $241.00 each when the room itself was only supposed to be $177.00. I paid cash on check-on, which I said I was going to do when I checked in and it seemed to really confuse the receptionist. She finally figured it out, but the hold on my card lasted for 5 days! That was $482.00 out of my account for rooms that were only supposed to cost me $354.00. I don't get that. Never had that happened before. So be careful when you book a room here. They need to fix the rooms themselves if they are going to charge that much for a night and they need to figure out a way to not hold on you card more money than the room is worth. Disappointed.

They no longer clean your room at all your entire stay. Unlike other chains where housekeeping is short-staffed and so will only clean your room upon request, at The Mining Exchange that isn't even an option. It really makes you wonder what people on extended stays do. Like, if I'm here for a month do I just get to sleep on the same sheets and walk on the same dirty carpet for a month? Pay your housekeepers more and bump up your room rates if needed, but clean the rooms EVERY day. Why does a part of me suspect this is the new norm? During the current labor shortage they'll get us all used to this reduced service and then it will just be how it is for the rest of forever.
Nobody at the Front Desk answers the phone. We were warned when we checked in to not call the housekeeping line as nobody was there to answer it, but there is very clearly always somebody at the Front Desk, but they just don't answer the phone. Even when they're standing there alone with no guests around. They simply do not answer the phone at all. You have to take the elevator down and speak with them in person.
They have the dumbest loading/unloading zone. It's small and almost always parked full, so you just get to circle the block over and over again waiting for a place to park so you can check-in and unload your car. This is where suburban hotels shine as they have those dedicated and covered driveways for guests checking in. Urban hotels... not so much.
Rooms were nice. I wish their King size beds were actually King size beds and not "Hotel King." Google it. It's basically a reduced-size King size bed made for the hotel industry.
Overall, a nice hotel with nice rooms in a great location. Too bad housekeeping and Front Desk are so lacking.

Dear TheRealChadJK, Thank you for the feedback regarding the most recent visit. You are correct that we have challenges being short-staffed in our housekeeping department as this is an issue around the nation. When guest are checking in with us we advise that if there are any needs during your visit we are happy to assist with. If a guest was on an extended stay, we would of course change sheets as needed. Our front office team handles calls 24 hours a day and currently we do not have an operator to transfer calls to needed areas, which causes the team to take all calls and as you noticed can cause delays in answering other calls for which we apologize for the need to come to the desk to request items. For the parking and loading/unloading at the hotel we are limited as are most hotels in the downtown area. Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide this very valuable feedback. If you would like to further discuss these matters, please reach out to me directly at neil.cramm@miningexchangehotel.com

We have used the Mining Exchange as our go to hotel in Colorado Springs for several years now. It's location is what makes it our favorite place to stay while visiting family in Colorado Springs. We don't need to rent a car and can easily walk to many great restaurants and shops and our family members live just a short drive away in the Old North End district. We had a wonderful front desk manager (Lindsey) who gave us several ideas of where to eat after a late arrival. The Rabbit Hole was a few blocks away and was a winner! While the housekeeping staff is not doing daily cleaning, they are very responsive to requests for additional items such as fresh towels and toiletries. We'll be back.

Dear dre51, Thank you for taking the time to complete a review of our property. We are very fortunate to be located in such a centralized location allowing access to many restaurants as you mentioned. I love the houses in the Old North End of downtown with the oversized streets and beautiful architecture. Lindsey is one of our amazing team members that always represent the hotel in a very positive manner. Her choices for restaurants and local activities always are top-notch and guests love chatting with her. Thank you for your understanding regarding housekeeping not doing daily service at this time and am pleased to read that they were able to handle any requests in a timely fashion. We all look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

We came to the Springs from Salida for a quick birthday getaway and to ride the newly reopened COG Railway. This hotel is such a gem. Our room, although small, was absolutely perfectly appointed (why is it so tough for other hotels to provide a night stand on "both" sides of the bed?). We loved the long countertop where we could really spread out our things. The coffee service area was convenient, and the bathroom (which features a double shower) was gorgeous (a small nightlight in the toilet would be helpful). The pocket doors separating the bedroom from the foyer and the bathroom were brilliant.
The lobby took us back a hundred years with its plush sofas and chairs and an antique grand piano that anyone who can play is welcome to use. Eddie Mormon's original paintings are worthy of a stroll through the various floors of the hotel, and the old safes which in the past guarded gold and silver have brilliantly been turned into housekeeping spaces.
The hotel bar was small but perfect and led over to a beautiful alleyway with tables and chairs and the Springs Orleans Restaurant which had authentic New Orleans cuisine. The shrimp and grits were so good, I later made them at home.
The hotel is perfectly situated to shopping and coffee and restaurants so you can have your vehicle parked and forget about it.
Certainly the highlight of our stay was the staff. From Mark, the concierge, to Jill and Jessica at the front desk, to Jason and the valets, everyone made us feel like honored guests. It was such a rare pleasure to be treated by such a kind, caring, and knowledgeable staff who shared the little-known bits about the history of the building with us.
Don't miss it if you can!

The hotel was very nice but the customer service was awful. I left something in my room and I talked to Jenny and Kelsey about it and they we not helpful whatsoever. The communication when I first called about finding out if I left something in the Room was horrible. I talked to Jenny and was told to call back in 2 days to talk to mark. I didn't want to wait 2 days so she told me to call back and talk to housekeeping because she did not know anything about stuff left in rooms. I called the next day and talked to the housekeeping supervisor she said she would call me back and she never did. So the next day I called and spoke to Jenny again and she really was not helpful at all so I asked for the front desk manager to give me a call the next day. Hours went by and the front desk manager never called me so I called and I finally got a hold of Kelsey, she said she would check with the cleaning company that they use for their sheets and she would check with housekeeping. She finally called me back today and basically just said I'm sorry but your item was not found. How does an item just not get found??? It's either at the cleaning company or somewhere at the hotel and housekeeping found it but just didn't do anything with it. Because my husband prepaid for the Room she said there's nothing I can do about anything, not the customer service or anything. I know for a fact that there is something she can do because I have worked at a hotel and I have refunded 3rd party reservations before. She said that she could upgrade me in the future and I said I probably wouldn't stay there because of the bad customer service I received. Also, I did not have a do not disturb sign in my Room so housekeeping knocked on my door at 8:00 a.m. Why are you not checking rooms for do not disturb signs to make sure that everything is in the Room for your guests. You have Trip Advisor signs that say you are a 9 out of 10 star hotel but you do not live up to it with your horrible customer service.

Please know we are still working diligently to find your lost item. We will also use this feedback as a training tool with our housekeeping team to ensure we are not disturbing guests in the morning. Can you please explain your parking options.....
Also, what kind of renovations are going on.
Thanks
The hotel has a Valet service, as well as a parking garage about a block down from the hotel. I believe the renovations were mostly on the rooms on the Third Floor, but may have been on additional places in the hotel.
No they do not have a shuttle service, but you can do Uber or Lyft which is quick and easy
We can place a mini refrigerator in your room upon request. Please call the Front Desk prior to arrival and they will have housekeeping place the mini-fridge. The Front Desk number is 719-323-2000
I think there was mats as well. Great spot to fill up your water bottle. Make sure you drink lots of water to help with the altitude.
