This is the place! Perfectly situated in Truckee just a little off the beat of Old Town and all the happenings in Truckee. I highly recommend staying in this beautifully maintained hotel. There are only a small number of rooms but they are all nicely situated around the courtyard of the lobby and public areas. The rooms are very simple and a bit on the small side but super clean and convenient and the beds feature a European style and application with the linens. The entire property was very clean, and it is very evident that the staff and management are fully aware of the local and state requirements related to COVID-19. Well done! Breakfast and drink available of additional charge but well worth the money.

We found this place after a filthy Airbnb left us with nowhere to stay. I can’t say enough about how wonderful this place is. Beds were perfect, they provided cleaning spray and a clean rag, dispensers in shower and near sink for soap, complimentary snacks, water bottles to fill during stay, spotlessly clean, huge rack for hanging things, duvets that were warm and cozy, beautiful grounds, quiet, lots of storage. Beautiful lobby, super friendly and helpful guy at check in. Really thrilled with this place. Rate was reasonable too.

Had a wonderful stay - the staff was super friendly, rooms were spotlessly clean, great amenities including an excellent hot breakfast that changed daily and an evening snack bar. The hotel is built to be as eco friendly as possible, and has so many thoughtful touches. Great location just a few minutes from the cute little town of Truckee, and convenient to all the outdoor activities in the area if you have a car. Sign up for the free Stash rewards program to get a discount on the nightly rate :)

This was an average experience that did not live up to what we had expected for the price we paid.
The first thing you have to do after checking in is make the bed ! There was no top sheet on the bed and there were 2 twin comforters to go on top of the king size bed. The front desk told us this was "German " style. Because there was limited maid service the bed always looked unmade with the 2 ridiculous comforters on it.
The sitting room had furniture that looked and felt uncomfortable.
If you get a room facing the road expect to be woken up through the night with the traffic noise from trucks and motorcycles.
It was nice to have a balcony and it was within walking distance to town.
The front desk people were very nice, but seemed to be a little inexperienced. The people operating the bar at night were great.
Overall an average hotel with a high price.

The location and exterior of this hotel was pleasant, but the interiors of the rooms were a disappointment. I’m not sure what exactly the “Sport Hotel” in the title might mean to others, but to the managers of the Cedar House it seems to mean a shoddy implementation (and perhaps a fundamental misunderstanding) of Scandinavian design. Yes, the room contains minimal furniture and decoration, but the effect is not one of simplicity freeing the mind to enjoy beautiful surroundings, but rather of a penny-pinching hotel buyer. Yes, the wood furniture is finished in its natural color, but its cheap construction and haphazard layout fails to give any impression of a connection to the forests outside. I’ve seen better wallboard, paint, and fixtures in Holiday Inns. And there isn’t a single piece of art on the walls. The bathroom is exceptionally cold, sterile, and unwelcoming, with fixtures that technically qualify as minimalist but that fail to give the slightest impression of the room having been designed by a person.

Having stayed in many of the beautiful and exceptionally cozy minimalist hotels the Cedar House appears to imitate (poorly), I’m not sure what went wrong here. The exterior of the hotel and the grounds are beautiful. Perhaps it’s just a renovation gone wrong.

I wouldn’t stay here again at any price, but at the price paid ($250/night before taxes, fees) our experience was particularly disappointing. I can think of dozens of California hotels that offer better value and a far more cozy place to rest your head.

Every nuance of this destination appears to be perfect and thoughtful. From the moment you see the artful structures and look deeper into the significance of the materials chosen to promote a healthy planet, to the tongs they use to hand you fresh baked cookies upon arrival to promote a healthy community each aspect of your visit has been analyzed for your experience. the staff was pleasant and helpful, the room was tastful, impeccably clean, and incredibly comfortable, and subtly and yet substantially environmentally aware. Thank you Cedar House Sports Hotel for a brief and yet completely satisfying stay!

Lovely lobby, roaring fire, A+ employees. Small bar provides cocktails and snacks. Chocolate chip cookies at check in are a nice touch but should be cooked five minutes longer. Cool design and decor. Really appreciate the sustainability push, avoiding disposable cups, shampoo bottles, etc.

Response from Cedar House Management, Owner at Gravity Haus Truckee-Tahoe
Responded Apr 26, 2022
Wow! We want the thank you for such a rave review. We like to think we have the best staff in the whole area. Our Front Desk staff loves to dish out great local knowledge so don't hesitate to ask. Our lobby bar is small but full of life and has a great cocktail list. We appreciate you noticing our green initiatives. The hotel tries everything possible to eliminate waste and be a positive member of the environmental community. Our chef likes to keep our complimentary welcome cookies on the doughy side, we understand everyone has personal preferences. If you wait to eat them until the next morning (we know, not an easy task), they harden up some. We look forward to having you again soon.

We live in the Bay Area and desperately needed a get back to nature week. We wanted to find a place to unplug from the news and all the negative things that are going on in our society. We checked into this beautiful location and instantly felt ourselves unwind. The beds were comfortable, the shower was big enough for two, the morning coffee was served bright and early in the outside lobby area and the staff was friendly and gave us great suggestions on what to do and see. We hiked and biked and completely relaxed. All the COVID rules were still followed but in a much more positive way. We had an amazing time and would highly recommend this beautiful hotel. They only allow 75% occupancy due to the virus.

We stayed in this hotel and loved the location. You can walk across the street to the bike/walking trail and you are close to Truckee without all of the loud sounds of the train. They have a nice restaurant with a good breakfast at a reasonable price. You will find lots of hiking trails in this area and river rafting is close by. The beds were comfortable (down comforters) and it was quiet. Our only negative experience was they gave us the handicap room which overlooked the parking lot, did not have a balcony and no walk in shower. When they emailed me prior to arrival about needing a handicap room I told them we did not, but since we booked at a discounted rate they put us in this room which was disappointing since we stayed for 4 nights. Just a heads up.

f you are a light sleeper I would avoid Rm 107 and the adjacent rooms. There is steady highway traffic outside especially in the early morning.
During check-in instructions were given regarding how to use the shower faucet. Really? I suggest they replace the faucet with something simpler to use. There were two different TVs...each having different remote controls. Really? Fortunately written instructions and staff were helpful in getting both TVs operating properly. The partial leather couch was odd and uncomfortable. Fortunately the bed was comfortable and the central AC was quiet and worked well. There was a microwave, small refrigerator and table to eat on but no silverware. Really? Given the drawbacks I found the room rate to be much too high.

Pet friendly?
Answer from G K
2 contributions
Yes, Frank, Cedar House is not only pet-friendly but they are animal lovers! That being said, as it is THE BEST place to stay in the region (pets or not), they get booked up quickly and only certain rooms are pet friendly, so they may sell out. Make sure you reserve early, and enjoy PS, the Stella restaurant (their own on site restaurant) is beautiful and has incredible food, both at breakfast time and evening)
