Travelers' Choice
In our 93rd year, Tamarack Lodge offers 21 rooms and cabins at surprisingly affordable prices. On nearly four acres of land one mile east of Tahoe City, we are at the edge of Burton Creek State Park, and are near everything you want to see in North Tahoe. There is also plenty to do right here on our own property. Families and groups love it here, and we are pet friendly too. Our "Poker Rooms" and cabins are genuinely "Old Tahoe". The cabins have full kitchen and are great for a weekend or a week. Our King and Double Queen rooms are spacious and comfortable. All rooms have microwave ovens and refrigerators; many have kitchens. Bring your boat! We have plenty of parking and boat launching is just 60 seconds away. Bring your bike and boots too. Mountain and road trails leave from here. We're 15 minutes from downhill skiing, or head out the back door with your nordic skis or snowshoes. We have been family owned since 1927, and are committed to treating you well.

The property is an older style lodge in a grove of huge pines and just across the road from Lake Tahoe. The owner was very helpful and friendly. You enter the room directly from the parking area, handy in bringing in luggage. Our room had been recently renovated with kind of a rustic style. The room was large with a comfortable king bed. We had a dog and there was a great area to walk it. No pet fee! The lodge is only a couple of miles from town, so convenient to local stores and restaurants. This a very nice and comfortable place to stay.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay, and we thank you for taking the time to write this review. Established in 1927 we are indeed an “older style” lodge. In fact, we’re part of Tahoe history! In recent years, we have made improvements in most of our rooms, and have found uncommonly talented craftsmen to keep the place rustic while making it modern. Situated on nearly four acres, and right across the street from a dog friendly beach, Tamarack Lodge is also a favorite among our four-footed friends. Sorry to spoil this last point, but actually there is a modest dog fee of $15 per dog per night. If you were not charged for your dog, that was inadvertent, and we are sorry for the confusion. Dogs necessitate extra cleaning, hence the charge. Thanks again. G. Fenech, Lodge Manager

My family and I normally reserve cabin #20 but this weekend was just for my husband and I to enjoy. We stayed at the in room #27 which has a beautiful filtered view of the lake and makes for a nice spot to watch the sunrise. My family and I have been regulars at this establishment visiting two to three times a year for over 20 years now. Most all the rooms and cabins have been beautifully remodeled by a craftsman who does some amazing work. The custom woodwork in the various rooms is beautiful and nothing short of amazing. Gerard, Frederique, and their staff are always super friendly and always helpful and accommodating. Rooms are always very clean, water taste great straight out of the tap, always enough hot water, internet service, and they're pet friendly. I can't rave enough about the lodge and it's owners.

I called the lodge in the morning and Gerard gave us our options. 4 hours later we had checked in and the little cabin was perfect. We stayed at Sweet Cabin Sixteen and it had everything we needed. Beautifully updated and ability to use the oven for dinner and breakfast was a plus. this cabin also has a little deck which we sat out on for a cocktail before heading into town for lunch. Only bummer was that it started to snow next morning and we decided to check out earlier than we wished for to avoid any traffic delays (we were hoping to stay until checkout time to enjoy the cabin). Although drinking coffee with fireplace on and watching the snow fall was pretty awesome. we will be back. thanks Gerard for your hospitality.

We have stayed in the Tamarack Lodge many times, and we love coming back! This time, we stayed in the newly renovated Sweet Cabin Sixteen; it was great having our own fully appointed kitchen and cozy living space. The owners of the Tamarack Lodge are kind and helpful. Tamarack Lodge's location is perfect; it's less than 1 mile from downtown Tahoe City with an easily accessible walking/biking path right across the street. Plus, Tamarack Lodge borders the beautiful Burton Creek State Park, so hiking opportunities are just a couple steps away. We highly recommend staying at this lovely lodge.

Thanks Janine for coming to stay with us again, and for writing this review. Cabin Sixteen certainly has become a favorite, and we are glad you enjoyed being there. Keep in mind that the same craftsman (Martin of O’Gorman Timberwork) has now renovated seven of our rooms and will be starting an eighth soon. Several have kitchens. They all look and feel great. We look forward to your next visit. Thanks again. Sincerely, Gerard Fenech Lodge Manager

The cabin we stayed in was very clean and well taken care off and up to date. We were able to view to other ones and they were just as nice! Lots of hot water and very tasty drinking water. The cabins are set back from the road a bit which gives you lots of privacy. The price was reasonable for the North Shore. The only "ding" against this place would be that the front entrance needs to be "spruced up a bit". Will return! Staff was very friendly!

Thanks Kimbal, for writing this review. We appreciate the positive remarks and relevant observation. Thanks in particular for mentioning our drinking water. It comes from our own artesian well and is on tap in every room. Unfortunately, like most businesses in North Lake Tahoe, we were short staffed all summer (with three employees instead of five), and consequently we were not able to attend to appearances as much as we would have liked. Thanks for reminding us of the importance of keeping things spruced up; we’re trying to catch up now. Sincerely, Gerard Fenech Lodge Manager
