Stayed here for the last couple nights of our family vacation based on Trip Advisor reviews. We were very pleased with our stay and hope to come back someday. All of the staff were so friendly and professional (even when there was an unnecessarily rude guest at the front desk-they handled it so well). Loved the beach retro vibe of the hotel. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was that our rooms were not ready until 4:15. We ended up arriving to the hotel early and were hoping to get into the rooms as soon as possible after a long drive. Staff were super accommodating and were able to give us a key to the pool area so we didn’t have to wait in the car. This was such a small inconvenience though and we forgot all about it once we got to our rooms and seen the view. We could see staff were busy trying to accommodate guests and knew the cleaning staff were doing the same.

Room - clean, spacious, absolutely great view of the beach, wharf, and boardwalk. We sat on the balcony for hours watching the surfers and the people. Hearing the waves all night was so relaxing. Bed was comfy as well!

Location - perfect location for just about everything. You are literally on the beach where you can swim, surf, play volleyball, etc. the wharf with food and shopping are a 3-5 minute walk from the hotel. Although we didn’t venture down to the boardwalk too far, we did eat near there and it was only about a 5 minute walk.

Pool-pool was great. Having the ability to order food and drinks is so convenient. The pool was heated which was a nice touch! We lounged around the pool for hours as well.

Cannot wait to return to Santa Cruz and will definitely be staying at the Dream Inn!

My fiancé and I stayed in room 411, a cathedral king room for 2 nights at the end of June 2020 for a quick birthday getaway. When we arrived and checked in immediately we both were loving the decor and design of the lobby, felt very retro but modern. We were also able to get into our room 3 hours before check in which was a nice surprise! The staff at check in were super friendly and explained the procedures in place for Covid-19 protection. We were happy to see lots of staff cleaning surfaces throughout the property and always wearing masks. I kept thinking Don Draper from Mad Men was going to appear on the pool deck with an old fashion in hand. The hotel made me feel like we’d been transported to the 1960s to some fancy beach resort. When we got to our room, we opened the door and our jaws hit the floor. My words were, “they’re going to call and tell us we are in the wrong room. This is too nice!!” Floor to ceiling windows, with a roomy balcony overlooking the pool and Cowell Beach. Beautiful view of the Santa Cruz wharf also. One downside to floor to ceiling windows.. that early morning wake up call from the sun! But life could be worse. We ordered coffee from room service and enjoyed the morning sea breeze before venturing out for a walk. The hotel has direct beach access for guests which made things SUPER convenient. I also liked the outdoor showers for rinsing off.

There just aren’t enough good things to say. Our two night stay was incredible and we cannot wait to get back.

Hotel and decor is very retro. The room was clean and spacious. There are some areas that could use some attention. Paint around doors is chipping and pealing, some of the furniture is warn. I asked the front desk about the 19% service fee added to the pool drinks and food, is it for gratuity??
They didn’t really give me an answer. For the additional fee it would be nice to have a server come by the cabanas/loungers to take orders, pick up the dirty dishes, etc. To place an order for drinks and food one has to go up to the tent. Defiantly not a pool resort.
As others have commented, the walls are very thin, conversations and noise from adjacent rooms is very noticeable. Keeping the sliding door open to hear the ocean waves helps to distract from the surrounding noise.
We loved the corner bench/couch with small table. There was construction/jackhammering outside the front entrance the second week of March.

We decided on Saturday afternoon to drive down to Santa Cruz and spend the night at the beautiful dream inn. I was able to make a same-day one night reservation in January for half the price of what a single night would be in the summer. I also believe that the summertime requires a two night minimum reservation, but not sure. I love coming to the dream inn during the beach city's off season! Great value compared to the summer, plus fewer guests to compete with for the pool (kept at 85 deg), hot tub, and restaurant.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Dream Inn. It lived up to all the hype, honestly. It was clean, and every single person we came into contact with was friendly, helpful, and genuinely seemed to take pride in their jobs. The proximity to the beach and pier is unbeatable. The beach is well kept, and surprisingly uncrowded! We had a blast and would definitely return if we're ever in the area again. Our view from the room was incredible. We didn't feel the need to go anywhere to eat while we were there because we enjoyed the view from our balcony so much. Highly recommend ordering Door Dash from Pono Hawaiian Grill nearby... quick delivery to your room, and incredible food (allergy conscious) with better prices than the on site restaurant. The pool/hot tub area is clean and convenient, and the little poolside bar is also awesome too. They made us delicious strawberry margaritas to go with our delicious Hawaiian tacos from Pono on our last day while we waited to go to the airport. The hotel also had the valet hold our bags upon arrival until our room was ready, and they also held our luggage on our last day while we waited until it was time to depart. The fact that we were able to enjoy the pool area and beach longer on both of those days was very appreciated.

The only things I think could be improved would be if they offered beach chairs along with towels for the beach, and if the on site food was slightly better quality considering what you pay for it. It was pretty good but it wasn't excellent, which is what you should be able to expect for the price.

Overall, this was an incredible experience and I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. We were in town seeing Coldplay in Santa Clara and we wanted to stay somewhere uncrowded and off the beaten path to enjoy the beach... and this was 100% perfect. Thanks so much to everyone at the Dream Inn!!

I booked over the phone and got a free upgrade. The staff were friendly, however they did say, "This is for a romantic getaway" to me when I was checking in, and my signifiant other was standing right there... a little embarrassing but they meant no harm. It's funny..... now..
The room was amazing and the view was stunning. We didn't eat at the restaurant b/c it only offered room service due to Corona Virus. We went out and brought food in. Rivas Seafood is good. It's on the pier, walking distance.
The bed is comfy, the balcony is big enough. There was no microwave, which would have been nice to have.
The on-screen tv entertainment was very limited. ( I brought my apple-tv but the Wifi has a capture page you must "agree" to before getting online, so the ATV couldn't connect. )

First, the bad: The only reason I won’t be back or recommend this hotel to others (besides pricing being a limiting factor for many) is the bed. It was ROCK hard and overall made the experience unenjoyable. On top of that the noise that we could hear from the rooms above and in the hallway were what we’d expect from a low-rate hotel, not one that can afford insulation.

Now the good: The suite we got was very clean, the view of the beach was awesome, and the sound of the waves crashing all night was unique as well.

In review: the staff is awesome, and the location is great. But for how much they charge you’d expect a bed that is comfortable and a way to not hear every other room in the surrounding area.

The main reason for our 5 point review was based on an employee named Richard Raygoza. He made our stay comfortable, accommodating and truly a memorable experience based on his level of professionalism and the courtesy he provided to our individual needs. He should be recognized for his premium customer service standards that he displayed and being an asset to the Dream Inn. Also, to be recognized should include James in Valet for his detailed information regarding hotel layout and specific room.

Negative: We will not ever be returning to your location based on, smoking policy and elevator issues, valet services having extensive wait times, lack of toiletries and even Motel 6 having a Microwave in the room not in a Vending area that was not located on same floor. We would appreciate a refund and throw blanket for our troubles. Thanks in Advance!

We were a family of 2 adults and 3 teenage boys(all 14 yo). We had 2 connected double bed rooms which worked better than a suite because the teenagers had their own bathroom. Loved the balconies with the beach and ocean view. The pool was a bit too crowded at times but still enjoyable. Pool side food and beverage service was great. There is also beach access from the pool deck which was a big plus since we also liked to hangout on the sand and swim in the ocean. Showers for rinsing off the sand are right at the entrance/exit door to the beach. Bikes are included . The rooms are very clean and quiet. A block away from the boardwalk which our teenagers loved. They woke up, had breakfast, played at the pool until the boardwalk rides opened at 11am. Then they were gone until dinner(or if they ran out of money)time. Food at the hotel’s Jack O’Neill restaurant was good(not great) but the bar and atmosphere made it worth it. Hotel staff very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend. Definitely will return.

For the amount you pay for this hotel you're getting horrible service not well-maintained rooms and hidden costs. $32 for two small cocktails and when you check in they don't tell you nothing about parking they just charge it after. Also they didn't get rooms ready by four so they ended up giving us a $50 credit which they still charged us for everything and never gave us the credit. They said that you can't use it on parking which they told us you can. This hotel is definitely overrated. The pool was overcrowded nobody wearing masks anywhere walking around the pool. So long to check in to the hotel and to get food in the morning. Crowded with no sense of social distancing. And homeless people sleeping below the balconies on the beach but thats not the hotels fault.

The good parts with the hotel is its clean and the view was a beautiful.

Many years ago, the Dream Inn had free parking, but after ownership changes, I do not think the parking is free. The best way to find out is to call the Dream Inn directly.
