I was visiting our student at Cal Poly SLO and enjoyed staying at this hotel. The pool is very nice and I swam every day. I was up on the third floor overlooking the pool which was great. All staff were friendly. I was in a King suite and liked the set up with the new-looking, clean and firm couch, the little fridge and the table and chairs by the front window. You can close the door between the living area and the bedroom so you don't hear the fridge noises. The bed mattress was great, not too soft, I'd say medium. The bathroom had a big shower. There are two sinks, one in the bedroom and one in the living area. Everything was super clean. Breakfast was plentiful with nice choices and tables and chairs to sit outside. My only suggestion would be to have staff walk around the pool area regularly when guests are swimming or in the hot tub to make sure they are following the rules, which are clearly posted. On the Saturday early evening I was swimming, and a loud obnoxious guy came in the pool with a beer bottle and started shouting to other guests wanting to talk about himself. This went on for at least an hour. Everyone suspected he was a bit drunk. Glass is NOT allowed anywhere near the pool area. Nobody dared tell him as they didn't know how he would react. I wish a staff member had been there to tell him. I spoke with other guests who were trying to relax and have some peace and quiet in chairs around the pool and they felt the same way. Perhaps when guests check in, staff could go through all the rules, one by one, to make sure guests are aware of them?

Having stayed here 10 nights annually over the past 20 years, I consider this property the best lodging in SLO. Recent renovations have refreshed and brightened the rooms considerably. Rooms now have a new beautiful walk in shower, although the lack of shelves for my toiletries is a design flaw. Something else new is the daily resort fee which was not included in the price of the room during booking. I had taken advantage of a rate which required advance payment. The resort fee was not included on the invoice but charged onto my credit card upon check out. I have no problem with the resort fee but wish it had been included in the price of the room when I made my reservation.

The room I got was on the 2nd floor. The room was spacious with a separate living area that included a couch, microwave, separate sink and mini fridge. The bathroom was small but fine with the sink being outside of the toilet and bath area. The bed and pillows were soft. Because I was traveling solo, I checked some parts of the room for security and noticed that there was a small balcony in the bedroom area. At the time I was inspecting it, the door latch was not locked properly and needed an extra push to get the lock mechanism to catch.
What I enjoyed the most was the value with their complementary breakfast-- I definitely expected less and was pleasantly surprised with what they offer. They had a good assortment of different breakfast foods and drinks and offered a menu of 4 hot menu items to chose from and they make it for you on the spot. The employees working the hot menu station were really pleasant and nice as well!

We had to replace a card keys to get into our room twice and we overheard another couple complaining about problems with their card keys. It was Mustang Family Weekend at CalPoly so the property was likely sold out which meant finding a parking spot was a problem if you return to your room late in the evening. Fortunately, the front desk was OK with us parking near the front door.
My wife complained that the room smelled of bleach but that means that they cleaned it, right? The room setup is a bit strange. The bathroom sink is actually in the same space at the bed and all of the lights are extremely bright. There is no way for an early-riser to be subtle about turning on the light without disturbing others. The pocket door to the toilet/bathtub was extremely heavy! My wife struggled with it and she commented about it every time she had to open or close the door.
The complimentary breakfast was the best part of our experience. Breakfast is semi-made to order (there are 4 menu choices that you can choose from) and prepared quickly. Breakfast ends at 9:30am..... another half-hour would be nice.
Overall, the experience was average at best. This won't be our preferred lodging when visiting SLO.

First, the staff was very friendly and always helpful. we really appreciated the interactions.
Second, this hotel is a very short walk to downtown (5-10 minutes) and was very convenient.
Third, the hotel is pet friendly.
Now some odd news and downsides. The good news is that the rooms are undergoing a new remodel. The bad news, not everything works like it should. Good news: the new layout is fantastic. Bad news: the TV claims one can cast to the TV, but we found out that it only works with Apple products. (We weren't quite ready to run out and buy new phones just to watch HULU.)
Good News: the bed and pillows were very comfortable. No bad news there.
Bad news: there isn't a room safe, which would have been nice.
Good news: there is an on-site laundry, and it is affordable. Plus, laundry detergent can be purchased from the front desk.
Bad news: the construction crews fill the parking lot, but that was acceptable because they parked away from the main entrances.
The best news of all: every night there was a bar-b-que in the courtyard. The food was reasonably priced and the cook was amazing!
I will definitely stay here again.

We chose this place because we wanted a suite setup that gave the kids their own room and Quality did not disappoint. Hotel is a 7 minute walk to a great coffee shop (Skippers Brew) at the edge of downtown and another 5 to the heart of SLO. Two nice bonuses: a breakfast that goes above and beyond the standard continental breakfast and a happy hour with free wine and beer (five quality taps). Speaking of beer, the hotel is next door to Central Coast Brewing and an attached distillery. One other thing to note, even though we thought the rooms were clean and in good condition, they were renovating the property while we were there so if you go in a month or so the rooms should be updated and even nicer.

I always have mixed feelings about reviewing this amazing hotel as I want to keep it a secret. I have stayed here at least multiple times a year over the past 15 years. This hotel is the standard I evaluate all other hotels by. The staff, from the front desk, breakfast, BBQ to housekeeping and maintenance, is professional and friendly. The property is classic Spanish architecture and impeccably maintained. The pool courtyard has seating for those relaxing or tables and chairs for those dining. The pool and hot tub are also well maintained.The rooms are comfortable and provide excellent separation between the living and sleeping spaces. The location puts you just a 10 minute walk to downtown SLO. The made to order breakfast is excellent with choices to accommodate anyone. Due to attending events, I am rarely able to take advantage of the evening BBQ/happy hour from 5:30 - 7:30 but did so this time. The offerings were hot dog (dinner size), hamburgers, grilled chicken sandwich or philly cheese steak sandwich with your choice of salad or coleslaw as very reasonable prices. Complimentary beer and wine are offered to hotel guests during this time as well. The Quality Suites Downtown San Luis Obispo is more than a place to stay, it's a destination in itself. We wish all hotels were like this one.

This hotel is a real find. The room is clean, comfortable, quiet, and we’ll-located. Unlike many other hotels on our road trip, the thermostat worked perfectly. Most surprisingly, they serve food in the courtyard which is really good. We paid $6 for a hamburger, all the sides were free, and wine and beer are free. The people ate the front desk were extremely helpful and polite. If you are traveling to this area, I highly recommend staying here.

We've stayed a variety of places in SLO visiting our son at Cal Poly and this is one of the best. It's a unique hotel layout and design that we really liked. It feels a bit like an open air resort hotel from the 90's where everything is perfectly preserved. The suite is big with a nice balcony and plenty of space. The long counter top with built in cabinets was unique and made it feel like a home in some ways. The large sofa was also comfortable for relaxing after a busy day.
The breakfast was terrific with cooked to order options, lots of variety and a nice space to eat. Again it's a unique style that felt similar to a tropical resort. Great service.
The pool and hot tub area was clean and enjoyable even in the California winter.
We enjoyed the manager's reception in the evening with free 805 draft in the bar. Not many hotels offering free drinks these days! The nightly barbecue smelled wonderful if you don't want to go out to eat.
Plenty of parking and we noticed a bank of level 3 DC fast chargers being installed. That will be a great amenity as SLO is a bit lacking with EV charging. I couldn't tell if they had any level 2 chargers but that would also be appreciated for overnight guests.
The hotel is so easy to get to Cal Poly, the 101 and easily walkable to downtown. Overall a great place to stay.

My son and I stayed here while doing a college tour of Cal Poly. It was a great base for us, close to the college and easy access to the rest of downtown. The room is spacious with a separate lounge area. Beds were very comfortable and our room was clean and well maintained. The whole place is very well maintained, there is always someone cleaning something when you walk around. The breakfast was awesome and included in the rate. Would not hesitate to book Quality Suites next time we come to town, great find.

Free food is like a chips/cheese crackers. I do believe coleslaw is free. Yes weird. I saw people getting up and getting cold slaw without ordering a main plate. Bbq price from like 6 to 10 dollars. Depending on item.
I don't think so. Seemed like just a regular van. Good question to ask management.
They have a couple of adjoining rooms which are lockable, if you wish them to be.
