This is our 3rd trip to Paso & by far the best hotel experience so far. Actually, this hotel ranks top tier due to the amazing staff. It doesn’t matter who you encounter, from the front desk, housekeeping, Pony Club, Mike who makes amazing smores every evening, everyone here is so genuinely nice & pleasant to deal with. The hotel itself is such a pretty place & love the fireplaces all with roaring fires every night. The free breakfast is much better than the average hotel breakfast. Rooms are well decorated and beds comfortable. Plus, it was so peaceful & quiet. Added bonus is it’s right in town so no need to drive to go shopping, to dinner, etc. this will be the only place we will stay in Paso from now on. Can’t recommend enough.

We have been to the Cheval several times and it is by far the nicest hotel in the area. Beautiful hotel with comfortable, well appointed rooms. It is a 1/2 block walk to the town square where there are numerous shops and restaurants. The best thing about the hotel is the staff. Dorine scheduled all of our airport transfers and wine tasting tours which came off flawlessly. Wade, the wine director really knows the area and the wines. Tori and Devin in the bar are wonderful and are great bartenders. The ladies who prepare the included breakfast spoiled us. Mike, the chef de s'mores, fattened us up every night at the courtyard fireplace. We have already booked our next visit.

This hotel is not only comfortably luxurious, it is charming and will leave you feeling at peace and never wanting to leave. The included breakfasts in the Pony Club are fresh with several choices that change daily, excellent coffee. The evenings end around the fireplaces in the courtyard where the "s'mores butler" builds you a variety of s'mores - much more elevated than you average campfire s'more! But even with all of this, the most important part of the hotel is the staff. They are gracious and accommodating in every way. They always greeted us warmly, stored items for us in their refrigerator, even drove us and our bulky luggage to the train station. One of the best experiences we have ever had in a small luxury hotel.

I wanted to stay at Hotel Cheval, as I had read such nice reviews of the property. There are a few wonderful attributes to the hotel. The location is great, walking distance to the little town, the workers are all very pleasant, and the property is pretty. But, the negatives cancel out the positives for me. Our room was about $600 per night, mid-week. The room and property were quite small, there were no amenities, no restaurant, no pool, or even a hot tub. Breakfast was nice, but basic. My shower had less than hot water, and the soap never seemed to rinse off my body or hair. The smores were also a disappointment. I've been fine dining where they actually make all parts of the smores. At Cheval, each ingredient was straight out of a box or bag. Reese's, Ande's mints, graham crackers, etc. We didn't even bother to have them the second night. In the past, I've stayed at the Allegretto. It's not in the best area, but had much more amenities, a great restaurant and pool, and the rooms were much bigger, at a much better price.

Dear Citygirl1961, Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel and for offering some constructive feedback. It is always very helpful. We do not advertise that we have a pool or hot tubs, so I am so sorry that you were disappointed that they were not part of this property. However, we do have a restaurant, The Pony Club offers a full range of cocktails, wine and beer and also small plates. Our S'mores are meant as a nod to the past, with some nostalgic candy choices. They are simply a complimentary amenity, that most of our guests seem to enjoy. Thank you so much for the shout out to our staff, they are always pleased when they receive an acknowledgment! Sincerely, Jayne Christman, General Manager

This place is an overall GEM in Paso Robles. My family and I were in the area for my brother's wedding. Most of the party stayed at the Paso Robles Inn or at an Airbnb. My mom and I decided we wanted to stay here and we were so glad that we did. The grounds are well maintained, the staff are extremely friendly, and the guest rooms are extremely clean. I stayed in the Highflyer and after a long night of partying, it was so lovely to get back into my room and soak in the tub. The property made excellent breakfasts in the morning and their Old Fashion at the bar were to die for in the evening. Here is where my big piece of feedback comes in. The beds themselves were extremely comfortable (i.e. the mattresses). However, given that we were spending over $600 per night, the bedding completely missed the mark. I expected high end linens that were pressed like you would normally get at a hotel where you're spending that kind of money. Furthermore, the pillows were a big disappointment. I remember seeing one of the pillow tags saying they're from Ikea, which is not okay for an establishment like this. Furthermore, the pillows were mostly polyester and extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. It took me three nights to get acceptable down pillows placed on my bed. Another recommendation I would give the property is to offer turndown service nightly. Again, when you're spending over $600 a night, this is certainly a service that should be offered. Overall this property is great and I would stay here in a heartbeat if I'm in the area again. There are simply a few small appearing but major impact details that if actioned, could change the property from great to outstanding. Overall, I would have valued my room night to $350 to $400 maximum given my stay.

Dear littleb0326, Thank you so much for your detailed review, and for your feedback regarding the bed linens and pillows, it was very helpful. After the pandemic, we had a huge problem sourcing pillows and had to resort to IKEA. However, after our normal supplier became available again we removed all the IKEA pillows - or thought we had . It was an oversight that Highflyer still had those pillows and the housekeepers removed them as soon as I passed this information on to them. We do hope you will think of us again when you are next in Paso. Sincerely, Jayne Christman, General Manager

We loved Hotel Cheval so much on our first visit, we came back to the area just to experience it again. It is a lovely, cosy, boutique hotel, well-located in the heart of Paso Robles. We booked a deluxe room and were in Chester, on the 2nd floor. It had vaulted ceilings and a gas fireplace. I noted there was only power on one side of the bed, adding an outlet on the other would be nice. We felt very well looked after, starting with the chocolate chip cookies welcoming us to our room. A good breakfast is included, not the usual sweet pastries but healthy options like hard boiled or scrambled eggs, fruit, juice, cereal, granola, yogurt, toast (including gluten-free), and sliced avocado. A highlight is the real wood-burning fireplaces in the courtyard, with a s'mores butler on duty from 7 to 9:30 pm. They have a choice of half a dozen different types of s'mores, and yes, they have (really good) gluten-free graham crackers!

We stayed there for a weekend in late May 2023. The hotel staff are professional, helpful and very friendly. Our room was well appointed and very quiet in spite of it being located just a half block from the lively main square. The bar is very nice with outdoor seating and great music, with the inner courtyard reserved for hotel guests. I have a Tesla and I appreciated the complimentary vehicle chargers. Mike, the s’mores butler was great. I highly recommend this hotel.

Think twice before you spend the money to stay here. We paid 600 bucks for our luxury room that was not luxury at all and reeked of smoke from the fireplace. Also, there was a large gap in the door way so who knows what can get in the room. We will not be returning to this place would rather spend my money somewhere else.

Dear baileybH1690ZZ, Thank you for your review, I am so sorry that there was a gap under the door to your room. As soon as you informed us of this, we immediately rectified the situation. I know that you were disappointed that you did not have a bathtub in your reserved room, unfortunately your reservation was made online, had we known in advance, we would certainly have done our best to accommodate you. We did offer to find alternative accommodation on check-in, but I believe you chose to remain at Hotel Cheval. We take pride in our service, and I hope that you enjoyed the champagne and truffles that we placed in your room. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies, Sincerely, Jayne Christman, General Manager
