Detailed Reviews
The location is fantastic. Although just off the square, once on the property, you feel miles away. Great service and the accommodations made due to COVID19 gave me peace of mind without detracting from the experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spotless, and I appreciated having comfortable places to sit and read a book, both in my room and in the courtyard. As someone who misses international travel, this property gave me the feeling of being abroad. I am already thinking about when I can return!

Dear susanbX70EU, Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hotel. I am thrilled that you took advantage of our various seating areas situated around the courtyard. Our hotel does resemble a European hotel, I do hope that you are able to travel internationally soon but in the meantime, please do come back and see us soon! We would not think of staying anywhere else in Paso. While it might be a bit pricey for the average traveler, it is well worth it. The staff are welcoming and the rooms well appointed. The daily continental breakfast is not your typical one as it is generous and offers a vast variety of items for all dietary restrictions. The Pony bar happy hour is a quaint place to unwind before heading off to a variety of dinner options in town. The hotel is within walking distance to the local shops as well as great restaurants. Don’t miss the evening gourmet S’mores before heading up to your room. Cooked in an open fireplace, one has their choice of speciality marshmallows from caramel to coconut, sandwiched with a layer of luscious dark chocolate. Yum! We will continue to keep this on our top go to hotels when visiting this wine haven area.

Although the hotel is right down the street from many busy shops, the experience at the hotel was quiet and felt almost secluded while still being close to all shops, bars and restaurants...great location! We had 2 small dogs with us and the hotel personnel were very respectful and kind to them, what a welcome feeling we had. The rooms are specious and elegant and the courtyard with the many fireplaces are magic place to snuggly in front of in the evening. We will definitely be coming back very soon, whenever Nuisance Newsome opens up our great the state again!

Hard to believe I can submit a review during Covid times but we braved the pandemic for a safe and relaxing trip to Paso Robles. Hotel Cheval is a lovely smaller boutique hotel. Easy to remain socially distanced from other guests. No elevators. Most guests followed clearly marked directions to wear masks in all public areas though some ignored this. Not hotel’s fault and we could maintain our distance.
Stayed two nights in Kingston Suite, on top floor. Has access to an outdoor seating area which, though not private, no-one else used during our stay.
Ambiance: excellent. Staff: top notch. Room: very nice and very clean. All hotel staff wore masks. Housekeeping wore masks and gloves.
Breakfast served on-site and included. Quite nice and staff is very personable. No dinner served on-site but plenty of restaurants nearby.
One comment: Though not big deal, Kingston Suite does get some noise from access street outside, mainly garbage trucks doing pickup. Luckily, didn’t happen during sleeping hours.
We felt very safe and could relax and enjoy our holiday. We definitely will stay here again when we visit Paso. Highly recommended.

We knew that the Hotel Cheval would be good, but it exceeded our expectations. Super warm welcome from Dorine, and our room was very comfortable, clean and had every amenity we could desire. There are only sixteen rooms that overlook a central courtyard of comfortable tables, couches and chairs with a nighttime fireplace to enjoy in relaxation. Breakfast (included) has everything you want (and more) and is served anywhere you want. Just a short walk to all the restaurants in Paso Robles, so park your car, have dinner and wine, and walk back to your hotel in peace and comfort.

When we first decided to finally take a trip to the Paso Robles wine country, I went to the internet to check my trusted sites and dog friendly listings to create my list of possibilities. I found lots of recommendations and reviews. I then began to call my top selections. I call before I book because we have Stella, a frenchie, who loves to take road trips with us. After a few frustrating errors in "dog friendly" places, I learned to call and confirm. When I called Hotel Cheval, I explained the purpose of my call. The young lady I spoke with assured me they were dog friendly. When I told her my husband takes Stella out to a grassy area immediately upon awakening, she assured me that she had the perfect room for us. That made me feel that this was the right place for our stay. Several weeks before our arrival, I received an email from one of the staff, Dorine. She encouraged me to call her about recommendations for restaurants and wineries. I am so glad I called her. I had started my list of wineries and restaurant reservations, but she stepped up our experience. She made calls for us to places she thought we would love based on our conversation. Yes, she called me and personally helped me! When we arrived, they had or ev space ready for our car and greeted us as their first priority.
Our room was wonderful. It had a patio for us to sit and enjoy. The location was perfect for Stella and my husband to take care of her business I am very particular about having a clean room and was so pleased that it was both clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very nice and the barista made great cappuccinos for us. After a long day of wine tasting and driving through beautiful canyons and wineries, it was so nice to come home to a patio with a huge lit fireplace and Jim making s'mores for us.
We had such a wonderful experience that we have already made reservations to return next March. We appreciate the kindness and gracious hospitality that the Hotel Cheval staff provided for both the two legged and four pawed guests.

We have stayed a t Hotel Cheval several time but what struck me this time was their amazing attention to detail. Before arriving at the hotel, I called to let them know that we had two birthday celebrations in our group on two different days and asked if they could arrange for a cake to be delivered to the rooms on their birthdays.
For the first birthday, a beautiful chocolate mousse cake was delivered along with bottle of Rose Champagne. On the next day, the date of the second birthday, I expected the same but, a beautifuly decorated white cake appeared with a Brut Champagne! It would have been so easy for the hotel to order two of the same cakes/Champagnes BUT, they took the extra care to personalize each celebration. Cheers!

This is my favorite hotel ever. It feels like a fairytale here - it's delightfully magical. Awesome customer service, comfy rooms, a s'mores bar with a s'mores butler, tasty full breakfast before wine tasting, out door seating and fire pits in the evening, and walkable to amazing restaurants in downtown Paso. Seriously do yourself an indulgent favor and stay here. We've stayed in the largest room and the mid-size one, and both were delightful with their own fireplaces on timers. Really you can't go wrong. Paso is a pretty chill place to visit compared to Napa, but I feel like staying here helps elevate the trip into something that feels truly special. We were here without kids but there were a couple of people who brought kids, so either way works. Feels more romantic of a place to me personally.

Dear Julia P, Thank you so much for your detailed review of our property. I agree, I think Paso is a little more laid back than Napa. We do have some great restaurants and wine tasting within walking distance of the hotel and of course, the S'mores butler is always available for a calorie free delight after dinner! Please do come back and see again soon. Sincerely, Jayne Christman, General Manager

This is a small boutique hotel with lots of personality. From the time we arrived the staff could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. All of the 16 rooms open on to a beautiful courtyard with 2 large stone fireplaces where the staff makes s'mores to order every evening. Located one block off the town square, so easy walking to all of the town restaurants and shopping.
The rooms are large, comfortable and very nicely appointed. All of the COVID19 protocols are followed.
Breakfast is included in the hotels small on site bar.
We had such a great experience, will definitely return

Blown away by finding this in Paso Robles, most of its 16 rooms with a fireplace, and an equestrian theme design throughout an intimate European-style boutique hotel. King beds with exquisite linens and comforters, and original works of art. Very romantic.
Several outdoor seating areas, most with a fireplace, ideal for spending time with friends or family, with a S’more Bar at night. On weekends you will experience a beautiful Breakfast Buffet.
Thanks for the memories Hotel Cheval!
