We rented a villa next to our camp spot and I have to say this campground is top notch! Price was reasonable for what you get! We usually stay at Wine Country and thought we would try this one. They waived the $15 resort fee since the restaurant hours were reduced. But the property is STUNNING.

Cava Robles(now Sun Outdoors) has gone downhill. Also, the prices are unbelievable! Then, after you pick a site, and pay $190 a night, you have to pay another fee to "lock-in" the site you picked. Gouging much??? What has happened to this place? You have to pay if you get there 5 minutes early. So sad that the original owners sold to a corporation. Same with Wine Country RV.

Hi Bryce, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate your patience as employees and guests alike adjust to our new payment processes. We are a pilot property for the new cashless and cardless system that is part of our liquor license with the state of California. As the first to adopt the system, we have naturally had a few hiccups, but overall the wristbands are proving to be a convenient and safe way for our guests to participate in everything we have to offer without worrying about carrying or losing a credit card. We care about our guests and are here to help everyone have a safe and enjoyable vacation in the Outdoors. Our pool is heated and maintained at 80 degrees or above. Please feel free to stop by our office during your stay with any questions or concerns you may have so we can respond in a timely manner and get you back to making fun camping memories.

We are regulars to Sun Outdoors Paso Robles (previously Cava Robles so must be managed by different people) - this was our 4th time staying here and unfortunately likely our last. Our previous trips were nothing short of amazing. This time, we stayed in the same RV spot we’ve stayed in as previous visits. The grounds were clean and well kept as per usual but this time as soon as the sun went down, soooo many cockroaches came out! It was so gross. The roaches were everywhere and it was not just our site but we heard our neighbors saying they had roaches on their site too. It was so unfortunate because we did not have this issue in our previous visits. In addition, during previous visits they had time slots where they would vacate the pool so they can clean it mid-day but that did not happen so by late afternoon the pools are all cloudy. Upon check-out, we let the front staff know about the cockroaches and all 4 ladies at the front were not phased by it so I’m sure others have complained about this. If you’re considering coming here, just remember to bring roach spray and keep all your doors closed so you don’t get any in your camper. Such a beautiful property but has gone down hill since we first started coming here.

Hi Em, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We apologize for the damper the cockroaches placed on your camping experience. Once you reported them, we had an exterminator come out and take care of the issue. While our office team may not have seemed phased by the mention of the bugs (the Outdoors is a wild and unpredictable place, and our staff have to be ready for whatever nature throws our way--therefore it's no surprise that they didn't appear squeamish or shocked when you brought it up), you and your neighbors were the only two sites to report roaches during their stay, and we reacted quickly to treat the area to provide the best possible camping experience for all of our guests. Due to guest feedback regarding the inconvenience of completely closing the pool for midday cleaning, we are now maintaining the pool and monitoring chemical balances throughout the day without a full closing. We hope to have another opportunity to make a great impression in the future.

Sadly, after several years of camping here this will have been our last time. We checked in on Thursday for Memorial Weekend (4 nights) and paid an exorbitant amount. We always figure, you get what you pay for though so whatever. Having said that, if I am paying so much, I expect to get use out of the amenities. We know from past experience you have to get to the pool earlier if you want a chair on a busy weekend. Ok great, we get our chairs (because we made a run for it at opening) and are all set…so we thought. Come to find out they are going to close the pool for an hour at 2pm. Apparently this is their standard practice now. We cannot leave our things on our chairs and have to vacate completely. By the time we get out there is already a big line to get back in, so we wait the hour to get back in to get chairs again. Ok this is annoying and not a relaxing day after all, but we make do. When we checked in and looked at all the kids activities, my daughter was the most excited about the foam party at the pool, Saturday at 4pm. We we had to vacate at 2, my husband and daughter went to get something to eat and to rest. They planned to come back at 4 for the party. Well, when they let us all back in to the pool after the break, they NOW decide only a certain amount of people will be let in. No one cared before. Then I notice at one of the gates the guy is pretty much letting in anyone, so I tell my husband to hurry back just so I can get my daughter in, not even him. By the time he gets there people have become wise to that gate, so now it’s completely closed off. A friend of mine says he’ll just go out so my daughter can come in. Nope, they’re not having it. Now I’m crying, which you may say is a little overboard, but to understand my situation, they’re basically saying, nope, you cannot be with your daughter who has been looking forward to this for two days! As a parent, it was a horrible feeling. After speaking to a manager (after 10 mins of round and round) they did swap in my daughter for my friend. Around 4:15ish or so, after there’s been really no one leaving, they decide, oh let’s just open the gates and let everyone who’s been waiting in line in. I’m guessing they had a lot of upset paying guests who were being denied entrance. Had any of this made sense, I’d be a bit more understanding, but there was literally no rhyme or reason to any of it. They said they need to clean up trash. Why they can’t do this when people are there is beyond me. If the park cannot accommodate even 1/4 of its guests at their pools (there are 2 with 80 person capacity), they need to build more, or not sell as many sites! At the rates paid they should be able to accomplish this.

a nice place......... some have nice views. everything worked well. a few places were being upgraded, and were closed. same cost. my main issue is a resort fee !! how about just saying how much it is UP FRONT !!! and not be like a hotel. it just makes you feel foolish when you book. kinda like they got away with something.

Hi Hugh, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay overall. We are sorry for the confusion over the resort fees. When you book online and enter your proposed dates, the site calculates your total cost, including average rate per night, resort fees, and taxes so you can compare available site types, and the fee also appears in your total after you select your site. We hope this helps, and we would love for you to stay with us again in the future.

This was our first stay at Sun Outdoors RV Park. We stayed in Paso Robles. We will definitely be back! The sites are plenty spacious for maneuvering in and out and plenty of space for some privacy. The facilities are better than any park we have been in. Everything is modern and kept looking new.

We chose Cava Robles based on the recommendation for a group trip to some of the wineries throughout Paso Robles. They had stayed at this location in their RV multiple times over the last couple of years. Our group rented 3 different villas/chalets throughout the campground. We were the first to arrive at our Chalet with a 'loft'. Upon check-in, knowing that my husband and I would be going to be staying for a total of 5 days inquired about any sort of housekeeping/bath towel replacement availability. The person at the front desk looked at me as if I utterly confused her. I explained that there were going to be at least 2 adults showering every day and I would like to know how we could get more towels and washcloths. She brought out 4 beach towels. I found it odd that they didn't understand that I was trying to clarify how to obtain fresh towels after using them. We entered our Chalet, it was clean and well-appointed, however, if you have more than 4 things to hang up, you should bring your own hangers. Of note, you will also need to bring your own bath soap or body wash. They have dispensers of shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and a small bottle of lotion. I also put the loft in quotes previously as the stairs are incredibly steep and even being not even 5'3 I could not stand up there. On our first night in our Chalet, as we were sleeping there was a loud sound and the right side of the bed was suddenly at a lower level than the left. Upon inspection when we got up in the morning, somehow one of the plastic bed risers had come out from under the leg at the head of the bed. We stopped at the Welcome Center on our way out for the day and brought this up requesting someone from maintenance fix it while we were gone for the day. The response we got in describing our issue to the receptionist? was "I hate when that happens". I'm not sure if she was trying to imply something or if it was an attempt at dry humor, but yes, I also hate it because I was not able to sleep much at all due to rolling down the side of the bed all night. I also asked about getting more washcloths for the remaining days as our unit only had 2 (when the unit can fit up to 4 people). She returned from outside with a hand towel and 1 washcloth. She then asked me if I wanted to go in the back so we could wash my face. I am still confused by the conclusion drawn from requesting more washcloths for our stay. The next day more members of our group arrived throughout the day. We met at the Clubhouse for some drinks and an easy dinner. The poor server in the Clubhouse was running her tail off with a full bar and several people in line to order food and drinks for the patio. Two of our friends stood in line for around 10-15 minutes and were told when they got to the front of the line that they could not order food as the kitchen was too far behind. This bartender was also very sarcastic and dry to the point you could not tell if she was joking or being rude. I initially gave her the benefit of the doubt with being so swamped, but as the night continued, it did not stop basically until one of our group members shared a shot of gin with her. After this day, our group decided it would be best if we gathered at one of our chalets. We sought food via Doordash or ate before returning. Our friends that had stayed at this campground and recommended it reiterated that this was a completely different experience than what they had with their camper. The spots for the campers were large and well-kept. I just think the staff of this facility are more familiar with running a campground and not a hotel. If they expect visitors to provide their own towels and washcloths, it needs to be clearly stated on the website, especially for people staying at this facility for the first time. Side note: There are also plenty of other options near this including Allegretto, which we have also stayed at with a much better overall experience.
