Detailed Reviews
I had some travel issues due to the Corona Virus and also had a room that I had prepaid that was not allowed to be changed or moved... Upon contacting the GM they took care of me and made an exception due to the situation with the virus. Most hotels won't do this kind of thing and I really appreciated it. Upon checking in the front desk person knew I had a very very tough couple travel days and he upgraded my room, comped my parking and gave me a free breakfast buffet. His name was Dominico and he was awesome. Hopeful his managers see this. All in all this is a very good hotel to stay at in Palo Alto and is right across from Stanford campus, shopping center and walking distance to downtown Palo Alto.

We made a late reservation to come help my 93 year old aunt, who is recovering from a fall. However, we seemed to have great timing as we got very attractive prices for something so close to Stanford and Palo Alto downtown spanning the end of the year.
With our rewards membership, we were given a complementary upgrade to the Club floor and Lounge! We even got to check in at 11:00 am, which was very nice because United has soaked our luggage on the way out.
Club level room was gorgeous - beautiful, designer-like furnishings and live orchard by elevator, but not as functional for us. Drawer space was tight for two with a week’s worth of clothing. Lots of plugs all over, but no night light in the bathroom. Fortunately, the closet light did very well as a night light. Exceptionally beautiful bathroom with a shower you can turn on without getting wet.
Gym is small but crammed with cardio equipment, all of good shape. Free weights, but no weight machines. Since we were trying to stay on East Coast time, we used the gym at 5am-ish, so no problem getting the equipment we wanted.
Primary area for improvement is their guest room WiFi. Frequent drops and slow refreshes. Club Lounge and Lobby WiFi were much better. There is an Ethernet cable in the room, but we hadn’t thought to bring the right dongle.

I really enjoyed my stay, they are hospitable and so conveniently located. I was working at Stanford for 2 weeks and the free shuttle picks up right by the hotel every 7 minutes. That was awesome! There are also many really good restaurants nearby. But when they renovate (hopefully soon), the guest rooms are in dire need of soundproofing. Every toilet flush, every conversation, every slamming door was audible in my room. And since they’re pet friendly, they definitely need to sound proof! I could hear the dog across the hall barking off and on for 3 days. I’m thankful I travel with a white noise machine because it made sleeping easy, in spite of the noise. Request a room near the courtyard/garden because it is quieter there. The foam pillows were great and the beds were comfortable. The staff was very nice every time I needed something. Windows are not sealed well either so I did smell smoke from the courtyard once too. The hotel just has high guest traffic due to the location and it really, really needs a guest room renovation and soundproofing.

Located across from Stanford and a mile from the expansive Stanford shopping Shopping Center so easy access. However, room was in the back and could hear the train all night long. Water fountain noisily splashing all day. Staff used the corridor to talk all day and night. Two linen carts parked outside room like in a motel. Acoustics are horrendous and could hear guests talking from down the hall while inside the room.
Stayed two nights at over $500/night and amenities not replenished so had to step out of shower to call for shampoo. The most basic, cheap generic toiletries with not even a cotton bud or cotton ball. No place to hang a towel. Makeup mirror located inches from toilet, disgusting.
Bring ear plugs, eye mask and tolerance for unending noise and plan to be exhausted after you stay at the Sheraton Palo Alto.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. I came to work at a lab at Stanford, and brought my family with me. We got a studio with a kitchen thinking we would cook during this stay since we had been eating out every day for last couple of weeks. We went grocery shopping before check-in, with lots of food to be put in the refrigerator.
We arrived at 3:40pm and was told that the room wasn't ready. "It's not a big deal" I said, thinking we could wait for 15-20min. Then we were told that we would need to wait for an hour. The front desk personnel told us that Marriott had this special late check-out program for Platinum members, and the family who stayed in our room checked out late. I'm only Marriott Gold, and thinking that there was no point of arguing, we took a walk in downtown, and came back after an hour. Then we were told they needed one more hour. Then the same personnel again explained about the Platinum member's special late check out.
I said, "The late check out is the promise made by Marriot to the other guest. Marriott promised me that I could check in by 3pm. Why do I and my family need to suffer because of your promise to someone else we don't even know? Also, does Marriott think that it's okay to offer such special program to a guest at another guest’s expense? I'm paying over $300 per night for the room starting 3pm today." Then the personnel offered $10 parking voucher. I told him I wasn't interested. Then he offered $30 at the hotel restaurant, I told him I wasn't interested. Then 25% discount, I wasn't interested. At that point, I thought that the whole thing was so stupid and unprofessional, and I had to do something for my family who was hungry and tired. It was already 5pm. Our food were still in the car. So I asked him to cover the entire dinner bill at the hotel restaurant. Then he offered 50%. We ended up eating $60 worth of food, and the hotel charged us $30. With $10 tip, we ended up paying $40 for the food we didn't even want.
When we got the call from the hotel when the room was ready, it was almost 6pm.
I will do my best to avoid this hotel. There are many options if you are willing to drive 5min or so from Stanford.

This is an excellent, underrated hotel.
The location is fantastic as you can visit Stanford and downtown Palo Alto without a car. Then you can take the Caltrain to SF if needed. There are free shuttles to Stanford and plentiful ubers, but you can also walk to much of the university and to the mall.
The bathroom was newly updated. The rest of the room feels a little bit older style but has been upkept with excellent maintenance and is classy. There are balconies, so you get fresh air and can hear flowing water. The staff is very friendly and professional. Front desk answers the phone promptly if you call. The room was spotless.
The breakfast buffet is complimentary for Platinum and above members and is of excellent quality. Later check out was also honored.
This is an expensive area and the rate reflects that. But while many hotels charge a high rate and then skimp in that situation, this Sheraton feels worth it.

I've been here for one night out of my four-night stay, and I have already had the most inhospitable interactions with management relative to any other Marriot Bonvoy property.
Check-in went smoothly despite a large amount of construction at the property obstructing the lobby. In addition, the room is loud, the walls are thin, and you can hear every voice and footstep of the other guests walking down the hallway. The water pressure in the shower was low, and the water temperature only had two modes, either very cold or very hot. From my room to the lobby, it feels like the hotel is in shambles, but I digress. Ultimately, the property was livable, but not without some qualms.
The only thing in greater shambles than the property is the onsite management. After bringing the shower issues up to the front desk (10 AM), an engineer came to see and confirmed that the shower needed repair. When the front desk received this news, they immediately informed me that I needed to pack and move to a different room. I pleaded to delay the move since I needed to leave for work, but they demanded that I move out by 1 PM or I could pack, and they could move for me. I handle some fragile equipment, so I opted to move myself. They then kept me packed and waiting for a new room from ~10 AM until past 1 PM, wasting a large portion of my workday. The bellhop then showed up and simply watched as I loaded all my bags onto the cart and escorted me to the new room. Fifteen minutes later, the bellhop returned with new keys but also with a pet contract, which I had already read and signed the day prior when I checked in. The bellhop then proceeded to condescendingly explain the rules on the contract as I was re-reading them and repeatedly asked me if I "could manage" to follow the rules. The bellhop and manager were also adding and explaining new rules that I had to follow that were not on the pet contract. I needed to get to work, and as annoyed as I was, I couldn't be bothered to deal with this.
I've been to numerous Marriot Bonvoy properties with my caged bird and have never felt so disrespected. Therefore, I would recommend against staying at this property; I would not stay here again, and I will be taking my business elsewhere next stay.

We stayed here 3 weeks ago for 6 days and again last week for another 5 days. We chose this because my husband has work to do in Stanford.
The room was of average size. The bathrooms are newly renovated and has a stand in shower instead of a tub which we prefer. The bedroom though is dated as apparent on the carpets and wall paper. The room comes with a coffeemaker and mini ref but No microwave, however on our second stay we requested for one and was promptly provided (subject to availability). Also, we requested for a room with a garden this time since our last room was facing the parking lot.
Due to covid, housekeeping is only by request.
They have a good size pool enough for laps. The only thing is there is a construction ongoing by the pool so its a little noisy. They also have a nice water garden with benches. Rooms located at the lower floors has a patio.
I also like the location. Its a short walk to the village where a lot of good restaurants are located as well as Trader Joe’s and CVS for your grocery needs. It is also walkable to Stanford Mall.
Service was better this time around. During our first stay we were not offered an upgrade even if we are already gold members. When the manager emailed us to ask feedback we relayed this information. This time around we had a better experience. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return in the future.

The location is superb, next to the Caltrain station. You can walk to downtown Palo Alto or the eucalyptus groves of Stanford University in five minutes. The hotel design is a bit dated but rooms are comfortable and well equipped. We have an electric car and I was pleased to see the hotel offered two level two charging stations. My Chargepoint card was accepted for recharging but for some reason the chargers are not shown on the Chargepoint map. Staff were friendly and efficient.

We actually stayed next door at the Westin Palo Alto, but we had dinner at the Poolside Grill at the Sheraton. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food is very good as well. Our only disappointment was with the prices. We shared a Mac & Cheese appetizer ($10). My husband had the Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni ($22), and I had the Angel Hair Pasta ($24). While everything tasted good, that's pretty pricey for basic menu items and no meat. Were I staying in town again, I would look for a different restaurant.

Dear 2Klecks, Thank you for your review and your recent visit to the Poolside Grill. We evaluate all aspects of our menu options on a consistent basis and we appreciate your candid feedback as it gives us the opportunity to consider your thoughts during our evaluation. We hope you will consider joining us at the Poolside Grill again in the future, and if you visit the Westin Palo Alto in the second half of 2020 the restaurant on site will have recently completed its enhancements and we are excited to share this new chapter with all of our guests.

I doubt it. CA is now again in shut down mode. I travel a lot and have yet to see a pool open. If still in doubt, I would suggest calling the hotel directly.
If your here on July 29 there is no hot water in the hotel. Disappointing for >$400/night.
The pool is average size.
In December 2019, there was a $20/night charge. However, it was waiver for us due to our status in Marriott Rewards.
