Detailed Reviews
We’re leaving after five nights here to enjoy lounging around a pool in the desert sun. We found the Skylark as advertised - a renovated vintage motel surrounding a clean pool and lawn. We had one of the renovated rooms with a comfortable king bed and a decent amount of space.
The outstanding features are the pool and the staff. The pool has a good sized deck with plenty of lounges and umbrellas. The pool and jacuzzi are spotless.
With the $25/room resort fee comes a decent breakfast, good WiFi coverage throughout the property and beach towels. Everyone is very attentive, beginning with Francisco, the general manager and Linda who welcomed us.
The hotel is on the far north side of downtown. Walkable, but my tip is that the local bus runs by every 20 minutes and costs $1. The adjacent neighborhood is good for walking and is the classic Palm Springs neighborhood of Elvis and Liberace.
We were very pleased by our choice to stay here.

We were only going to be in Palm Springs for one night so we didn’t want or need a resort with a huge number of amenities we were not going to use. It was also modernist week so it was a bit difficult to find something reasonable. There were 3 of us which also ended up being a bit challenging since many smaller hotels would only allow 2 people in a room. The Skylark ended up fitting our pocketbooks and requirements for being in the city proper and not costing us a ransom.
Due to construction we were a bit confused upon arriving near by and the gps did lead us a bit astray because the front of the hotel was not accessible. But we managed to lock in the parking lot and backside of the place. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but that was okay.
Check in via the kitschy air stream trailer office was smooth and easy, our room was what we expected. Pretty standard but re decorated to that 1960s 70s vibe. A little improvement for plugging in phones, tablets and cpap machines would be a small recommendation., particularly with 3 of us I. The room.
The small bathroom needs a vanity. We had no where to place toothbrushes, curling irons or hair brushes. No where. The shower was serviceable but could also use a bit of an upgrade to 2020s . I mean it worked we had plenty of hot water, it was juste ….dated. I hope this part of the room was still being renovated.
We liked that breakfast was included. It was all right. Egg frittatas toast. And bacon. No complaints. Eating by the pool was a nice way to start the day.
The pool! And hot tub are open 24 hours. It was great fun to come back after a day of site seeing, a late dinner and taking a dip in the dark. Guests were respectful of the noise and the staff said they have never had complaint about noise. “It’s not that kind of venue.”
So if you don’t need the amenities of a resort, and appreciate decent service, a clean room, an okay breakfast at a reasonable price - for Palm Springs - I say this is a nice place to stay. If you’re used to 4 or 5 star places, go somewhere else. You won’t be happy. We’d stay there again and hope the bathrooms are i proved a bit.

This is an old hotel, but you will get lots of value for your dollars. The rooms could be updated, but they are very clean. The breakfast is worth $20+ per person. The pool and hot tub are quiet and pleasant. Location is easy for walking to Art Museum and lots of restaurants. Mountains all around. Great!

We booked a three night stay at the Skylark Hotel for a family wedding. I researched many hotels in the area and based on the photos and reviews felt that this hotel would be a nice place to stay. We didn’t need a high end resort, but definitely wanted clean and comfortable. We had a nice view from our room of the mountains. However, the hotel was not as expected. There are many areas for improvement. Before I get into that, Scott the property manager was extremely nice and accommodating. He went out of his way to try to improve our stay. All of the other employees we had contact with were friendly and helpful.
The first room we had was pretty bad. Very noisy air conditioner. Cold water coming from the bathroom sink faucet was a trickle. Water pressure in the shower was very poor. The room was in need of updating and repair. I asked Scott if we could be moved and he was able to move us to another room on the 2nd floor. This room was a bit better, but still in need of repairs and updates. This room only had a desk chair to sit on. The AC unit on the 2nd room was better, but still quite loud.
The included breakfast was just okay. It was not a buffet, there was one man who served everything from coffee to jelly for your toast. There wasn’t anything you could grab for yourself. As such it was a bit slow, especially if there were multiple people waiting their turn. They could have at least had a self serve coffee area for those who just wanted to grab a cup and go. The food (waffles, frittata, bacon, toast, yogurt and cereal) was cold. They didn’t have decaf coffee, so I had to make a cup in the room and take it with me for breakfast. I can’t handle caffeine, so I was not happy about this.
I hate to give a bad review because everyone at the hotel was so nice, but I think people need to know the quality of what they are booking. I’ve included a few photos of the condition of the AC unit and bathroom.

The included breakfast was fabulous. I really appreciated that there were some low sugar options. The offerings every day were bacon, egg frittata, plain yogurt, sweetened yogurt, granola, cold cereal, bread/toast/bagels, fresh fruit (oranges, apples, bananas), usual beverages. The frittata was especially delicious. Such a good breakfast for a full day of hiking!
The staff are amazing and very helpful throughout our stay. We checked in after normal check-in hours, and Leylani was very helpful with this. I called ahead of time and she walked me through the process and then sent a detailed email as well. There was a lockbox for the key and phone number to call to get the code. It worked well and I liked that there was a normal key, rather than a key card that doesn't always work (like at other places).
The hot tub and pool were nice. The pool is heated and my sister thinks it is a salt pool.
The shower had great water pressure and was very hot!
We enjoyed having a fridge in the room.
The location was good, just a few minutes driving to the restaurants, 10-15 minutes to hiking, about an hour to the Joshua Tree National Park entrance.
We had room 26: It could use some updating, but worked well for us. A few improvements that would be helpful: an additional mirror or two outside of the bathroom to facilitate getting ready when someone is in the bathroom, more plug-ins/ maybe a power strip somewhere. The bed is quite soft so not too comfortable for us who are used to a more firm mattress.
Thank you to everyone at Skylark for making us feel welcome! We enjoyed our stay!

You will be quietly surprised when walking into the Skylark. There are approximately 30 rooms and it feels so homey for a vacation. We stayed in one of the rooms that had been renovated and we were very happy with the changes. Every morning they have breakfast(7-10AM not continental ) that will fill your morning needs. This is included in your package. We love the place.

I love staying at the Skylark and introducing new friends to its one-of-kind charm. Very nice, clean, and comfortable for everyone. Vibe is a intimate bed & breakfast and the staff/owners are very warm and welcoming. I always check if they have availability when visiting Palm Springs because it’s central to DTPS, easy, and the pool and hot tub are open 24/7. Great view of the mountains from the pool!

Three of us stayed in a two-queen room on the second floor of this retro gem. It was a pleasant room, with a great view of the mountains. The hotel was quiet and pleasant to walk around. It would be great in the summer; we were there late January so the pool was pretty to look at only. The breakfast was lovely fresh cooked vegetable frittata and nicely cooked bacon. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's close to the uptown arts district. The price was very reasonable.
We'll stay there again!

Fabulous experience overall. Friendly staff like Francisco who go OUT of their way to ensure all your needs are met and were extremely apologetic of the renovation work going on to better the experience. Complimentary breakfast was fresh and absolutely delicious. Very clean amenities and the bed gave us the best sleep weve had in a while!! Would 100 percent come back and stay again.

First of all we didn't even know it was a hotel from the streetscape. It is truly "hidden" and not necessarily a gem. Perhaps it was the room we received but we felt like there were a lot of little things that needed to be repaired or replaced. It was clean but simply not maintained. We believe there are other, less costly, and better options if you are looking for a boutique hotel experience in PS (ie:The Movie Colony Hotel).
