We stayed at the Del Marcos hotel for one week in January 2007. I was attending a conference while my wife enjoyed the R&R. We had a great time at the Del Marcos, a quiet and layed-back place just a block away from the main shopping strip in Palm Springs. Jack was a very attentive and helpful host. We loved relaxing at the pool with Martinis that we prepared with the appropriate bar paraphernalia in the room. The bed was superb, a feature that you'll appreciate particularly when your age is close to that of the songs played at the poolside. Everything was clean, although some parts of the exterior could use some new paint. In all, the Del Marcos is highly recommendable, especially if you like to experience the good of the old days.
Upon driving up to the hotel at night I thought the place looked cool. Too bad that impression did not last long. Perhaps some rooms have been renovated, but ours certainly was not. The walls looked patched up, the windows could not be secured/locked, the toilet kept leaking water. To be fair, the room was clean. The music around the pool was nice. The roomed was run down, plain and simple. There was a flyer in the room informing us that continental breakfast is no longer served. Only coffee is served in the morning. The hotel office is only open part time. This place is not worth $180 a night no matter how cool the old architecture is.
We booked our stay at the Del Marcos with some trepidation, due to some older, negative reviews, but couldn't resist the lure of its modernist style. To our delight we discovered relatively new management and our host, Jack, couldn't have been more attentive and delightful. Full of information, ideas, and ready to sit around the pool for a chat. Rooms were stunning (we think they were recently restored). We'll definitely go back, it has an "old Palm Springs" style to it. Perfect location, walking distance to restaurants and downtown but off the main drag.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Del Marcos for three nights over Thanksgiving and genuinely enjoyed the experience. It provided us with a refreshing stay, a personal and cozy atmosphere at the well-maintained pool, a great, very clean room with an excellent bed and carefully selected mid-century modern decoration, and just everything we needed to relax. Add to it a location that can't be beat, just far enough away to mute any traffic noise, but only a block away from the heart of Palm Springs and in walking distance to hiking trails. The manager, Jack, had apparently just taken over and was still figuring out some of the details. But he was very determined and successful in resolving the minor glitches with our reservation, and contributed to our overall positive…
Under new ownership since our last visit and new manager Jack went out of his way to make sure our stay was comfortable and our needs were met. The pool is the centerpiece for day or evening relaxation. A nice quiet evening with complimentary wine by the firepit at poolside was exactly the R&R we had hoped for. A short walking distance to restaurants and shops in a desert oasis. We will return again without hesitation to unwind. It is a great mid-century modern hotel we are glad to see preserved.
