We had read lots of positive reviews before booking this hotel and although initially worried that staff were not on site over night were excited to visit. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and offered a welcome drink before being shown to our room which was up a small external staircase. The room was small but well presented with 2 double beds , a kitchen area and a bathroom. Welcome bottles of juice and water were found in the fridge together with a little bowl of goodies. The pool area was beautiful although could do with a little TLC . The breakfast , which you help yourself to, was perfect. We took coffee, yoghurts, juice and fruit to our room. There's free parking right outside and the drive to the town centre takes minutes.
A few things that could be improved were that there was only one chair in the room which was badly stained and very wobbly. there was no opening window in the room so in order to get fresh air in we had to keep the door open ( we noticed most of the other rooms had sliding doors that had a netted door over it to let air in and bugs out), we had a fan in the room together with a roof fan and an air conditioning unit. Even with all 3 on at the one time the room never felt anywhere near cool as we could not turn it below 70 degrees. The room wasn't serviced on one of the days despite putting the card out asking for it to be done, this was ok we just asked for clean towels and they were provided and we handed the used towels back.
Even with those issues we would 100% book this hotel again and recommend it and the reception staff were amazing.

Have stayed at Hotel California multiple times over the last few years and it is always a wonderful experience. The rooms are spotless, nicely stocked with complimentary snacks and drinks, plus the morning coffee and breakfast items. Drinks on arrival! The staff are great, the grounds are lovely and the pool is always inviting. Intimate and quiet, and always a pleasure.

My sister and I stayed at the Hotel California for 5 nights (our first trip to Palm Springs) and could not be happier with our experience!
The staff here are AMAZING!! Even before our arrival, they were prompt in answering emails or phone calls when we had questions. Upon our arrival, Dawn (sad to find out she's leaving) greeted us like we were family and gave us a thorough tour of the property then showed us to our room.
Sam and her mom (sorry I forgot her name!) do a fantastic job of cleaning the rooms and keeping them stocked with everything you need. Teri, Tracey, Corbin, Jessica and Garrett were all so friendly and really went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
We stayed in the Casita (room #14) and it was perfect for two women traveling together. The bedroom has 2 queen beds, there are 2 full bathrooms (one adjacent to the bedroom and the other off the living room), a full kitchen, dining room, small living room and a wet bar, in addition to the kitchen. There is also a spacious private patio with a private entrance. The room was well stocked with everything we needed. They even had some pink champagne on ice waiting for us!
The guest kitchen is well stocked with the equipment you need to prepare some meals (if your room doesn't have a kitchen). It's also where they serve a very nice continental breakfast every morning (included with your stay).
There is also a comfortable common lounge/living area with a table, couch, TV, large DVD selection, rest room and A/C. There is also a rack with brochures for the sites and attractions around the PS area.
Each afternoon, they came around the pool and offered complimentary cocktails and popcorn and asked us if we needed anything else. They even made sure the water temp was to our liking! You don't get that type of attention at big hotels!
The pool and jacuzzi were absolutely perfect and there were plenty of chairs. My ONLY complaint would be the comfort of the loungers. They were a bit worn so when sitting on them, the support bar kinda dug in to our bottoms LOL. But, we folded a towel and sat on that which definitely helped. The misters around the pool were a nice touch!
The location of the hotel is within walking distance to several restaurants which was convenient for us since we didn't rent a car. Downtown was a short 5-10 minute Uber ride away.
The grounds are so beautiful and the staff does a great job of keeping everything in tip-top shape.
The day of our departure, our flight was delayed by 3 hours and they let us hang out on property until it was time to leave for the airport.
Posting lots of pics of the room since I had a hard time finding any recent ones while we were planning our stay, particularly of the Casita. There is no shortage of pics of the beautiful grounds :)
My sister and I take a sister's trip every year but we never stay at the same place twice. However, we enjoyed our stay so much that we're already planning our return trip for next June.

This is a fun, neat old place that has been maintained very well with much love and care. Many well-thought out touches, clean, friendly staff. However, we were looking for an adult, quiet hotel and you can't have that when you have a 24/7 jacuzzi and guests talking n laughing at 1 am!!! Wasn't sure how the "quiet time"/10pm policy works with the latter ammenity. I know I lost a good nights sleep. Also as the smallest room was all that was available, $300/nt seemed a little steep. I would still recommend this hotel, I was just a little underwhelmed.

Our experience at Hotel California was one of the best we've ever had, at any resort (and we've stayed at quite a few). There aren't many rooms, so because of this the guests get to experience a more peaceful, intimate setting. It felt more like staying in a vacation home than it did a crowded resort, and I really appreciated that for a change. There were misters around the pool, plenty of seating, and hummingbirds! They were definitely a highlight of the experience. The rooms were kept clean and tidy, snacks were provided in the rooms, there was free breakfast set out every morning at 7:30 am (I really enjoyed the chocolate muffins and croissants), there was a popcorn machine, chocolates in the office... I could go on and on about the little details that made this place stand out. The customer service was fabulous! Every employee we encountered was welcoming and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Even the drinks they put in the mini fridges in the rooms were free of charge. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were quiet and cozy, complete with air conditioning. We even lucked out one of the days by happening to stop by the resort (we were out and about doing sight-seeing, but needed to briefly pop into the resort before heading to our next adventure) and the DJ was playing Hotel California! (the DJ doesn't stay late, and I believe they are only there once a week, for the people who might be worried about noise) It was such a wonderful experience. This place is truly a hidden gem, and I hope the atmosphere never changes. Highly recommend to anyone looking to experience a more laid back, cozy vacation in the beautiful city of Palm Springs. Oh--and our balcony even had a view of the San Jacinto Mountains! I will remember this trip forever.

This is my second visit to Hotel California. My husband and I were traveling with another couple. The hotel provided complimentary snacks and drinks in our rooms as well as a complimentary bottle of champagne for the other couple we were with since we were celebrating a retirement. We booked rooms 4 and 5 which are tucked back from the center courtyard/pool. Although these rooms don't get as much light, we preferred the privacy. From the first call I made until the last day we checked out, the service was absolute top notch. Every employee was service oriented and said "yes" to every request I made. We had late check in due to a flight change but that was easily arranged with the key pad. We found our room quickly and were taken care of the next morning as well. Dawn, Chris, Kelly, and Misty were our hosts and managers. Janet, Sandra, Irma, Alejandra and Solia took excellent care of the grounds and our rooms. The pool maintenance guy was great too, but I neglected to get his name. Very personable and welcoming! Hotel CA is a 14 room space but it feels like it's own little haven as you are sheltered from other surrounding buildings by banana and palm trees. Even when the hotel was full, we didn't feel crowded. All the guests seemed to continue the laid back vibe that was set by the hosts. The hot tub was glorious for both early morning and later evening soaks. The pool was warm enough for swimming even on a "cool" January evening. There are nightly complimentary beverages which both Chris and Kelly readily refilled while various groups gathered in the outdoor space. Upon learning that we wouldn't be there during the evening "Happy Hour", Chris happily served up beverages early for all the guests that were enjoying the poolside and courtyard area. The following night when Kelly noticed that we had missed Happy Hour, he graciously made our group drinks while we were gathered around the fire table. The housekeeping employees seemed to anticipate our every need- bringing us water and towels and making extra pots of coffee as they saw us lingering by the kitchen and pool in the mornings. The community kitchen is awesome. I used it for breakfast every morning as we had bought a few items that we stored in the kitchen. We used the BBQ grill one night too and prepared a delicious dinner in. Everything was sparkling clean and ready to go! The day we checked out Misty showed us around to several of the rooms that were empty including some of the newly renovated rooms. They are upstairs overlooking the pool and have sweet decor. The couple we traveled with kept exclaiming that they'd never been treated so well while traveling. I just smiled because I'd been trying to tell them all along how great the hospitality was here. If you are considering booking here, stop looking right now. Just book and you'll be planning your next trip before you even check out!

Read the reviews before booking. Thought there was no way it could live up to the hype. Spoiler alert, it does. From the minute you walk in you feel like you are staying at a friend’s hotel. Warm pool and hot tub. Free continental breakfast. Bikes available for free use (first come, first served). Definitely coming back.

This place was great value and our host Terri was friendly and ever-attentive. The rooms are basic but the bed was very comfortable and coffee, tea and a variety of snacks were offered free of charge. Self-serve continental breakfast was available in the morning. There is a pool and spa set in a colourful courtyard garden, and bikes are available for guests. A walk into the centre of town takes about twenty minutes. The hotel was great but the unexpected highlight for me was the hummingbirds. I'm from Australia and we don't have hummingbirds here. A couple of pairs were nesting in the nearby trees and popping out at regular intervals to feed from the nectar in the trees and the feeders provided by the hotel. Beautiful little creatures and fascinating to watch.

This review is long overdue, as my partner and I have been staying at the Hotel California and their sister property, The Desert Riviera Hotel, for the past several years. We would like to offer our sincere thanks to the staff at both properties for their dedication in insuring that our stay is always wonderful. From the housekeeping staff who guarantee a clean and comfortable room, the pool and grounds staff who maintain the sparkling pools, spas, and verdant, flower-filled open spaces, to the front office staff who attend to your needs with precision and courtesy, every one of the hotel crew are there to maintain excellence. In particular, I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude to Dawn, the manager at the Hotel California. She went above the call of duty in insuring that I got my lost wallet returned to me untouched following the day of a previous evening social event. Thank you, Dawn! If you are looking for a unique property in which to have a tranquil stay in the Palm Springs area, definitely check out both the Hotel California and The Desert Riviera Hotel!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel California. There were many small touches that added up to a special experience... beautiful landscaping around a sweet little pool, blueberry lemonade offered around the pool in late afternoon (alcohol optional), tips from the staff about excellent hiking trails and a variety of nearby tasty restaurants, a well-stocked kitchen that offers breakfast and snacks plus tools for personal cooking tasks. The 14 rooms are nicely furnished and arranged in a way that provides a sense of privacy and calm.

Hello, we offer early check in's when we are able to free of charge. If you arrive earlier than our 4 p.m. check-in time and your room isn't quite ready, you are more than welcome to use the pool and the property until your room becomes available.
We stayed at Hotel California one night, and I would happily stay there again. It was attractive and different from most hotels... quiet is a virtue here. My room was great for me, but it was a 2nd floor walk-up. The kitchen, where we could get cereal or cook our own food, is on the ground floor. I would suggest calling the front desk during the day to learn about accessible rooms.
