We took a quick getaway this week, and chose Seven Gables for our second night, and we are hooked. Gracious reception staff, exquisite antiques galore, chandeliers and numerous stain glass pieces. Our room had soft linens, comfortable mattress, and pillows like marshmallows. Very tidy bathroom. We had the Garden room which is probably their ADA room-fine with me…I needed the handles to gracefully get out of the tub 🥰
Now the delicious breakfast, oh my!
Quiche, served by a darling young lady with asbestos fingers, girl, get some hot mitts😋
Hash browns, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, toast, English muffins, mini scones, croissants, and almond coffee cake. Tea, coffee and the orange juice I’m pretty certain was fresh squeezed.
Large photo album in the lobby with photos and documents reflecting the history of Seven Gables.
Shout out to The Monarch Pub for yummy fish and chips dinner!
Lastly, the ocean views. How blessed we feel to live in this heavenly state. Think what you want about California. I do not dream of living anywhere else. Cali girl born and raised!

Dear Dolcefarniente, Wow! Thank you for that fabulous review!! Reactions like yours make all of the hard work worth it!! We are just so thrilled you had such a great time. Our staff takes great pride in the history of our inn. Can I say, it is actually quite fun to work here! Our Garden room is almost ada accessible. The only thing that prevents it from being ada is that you still need to maneuver some stairs to get to the breakfast room. It is a charming room however. Our breakfast and kitchen staff will be happy to hear you enjoyed your meal in our ocean front dining room. Sounds like we need to get them some hot pads for the sweet gals serving too. We feel the same way about this place! How lucky are we that we? We get to come to work in such a beautiful atmosphere and with the best guests as well. Life is good! California and the Monterey Bay, truly unique. Mother nature at her finest!!

I have been to Seven Gables multiple times over the past few years. It is our home away from home. It is so welcoming, you could not ask for a better host than JR. It is impeccably appointed (fine furniture pieces and delicate statues and soft furnishings, unique lamps) and immaculately clean (the guest rooms and the public areas, thank you to the housekeeping staff). The exterior and grounds are very well maintained and manicured. Everything about it is wonderful from the cherry scones and chocolate chip cookies to the mattress toppers that make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud. The staff has gone above and beyond for me. On my first visit there I had left something in the room and Laila and Susan mailed it back to me. On the trip there last year we got a flat tire and the front desk person called her mother who had just had her tires replaced to be able to refer us to a good local tire repair shop. There are views from every room. I have stayed in three different rooms and was given a tour that included several other rooms. Each is beautiful and special in their own way. In the breakfast room every seat has an amazing view. And they are able to retain staff members, so you actually get to hear about their vacations and family and they remember your preferences (almond milk) and how you take your coffee in the morning. And they decorate so beautifully for the holiday season. (We have not been there yet when the Lantern Festival was on.)

Dear Mary, It is a delight to welcome you and Joe back whenever you find time to visit with us. We appreciate all your kind words of admiration for the beauty of the Inn, the views of the ocean from every room, the amenities and the spectacular natural surroundings. Our staff, in particular, is so pleased that you have mentioned the wonderful and thorough and dedicated job they do every day, whether they are Housekeepers, Chef, Breakfast Servers or Front Desk Staff. We look forward to welcoming you back the next time you need a romantic place to relax away from the stresses that have a tendency to creep up on all of us. We really look forward to seeing you soon!

Traveling from Sacramento to Los Angeles we stopped in Monterey for the night. Beautiful home. The views from our room, La Belllevue, were beyond words. Sitting on the couch looking out into the blue waters could not have been more romantic. Wine and cheese social every night in the parlor was delicious, featuring local wines that were excellent. The most comfortable bed and sheets. Breakfast the next morning completed a fabulous stay. Many thanks to Veronica, for making our stay memorable.

Dear Joe S, Thank you for staying with us at the Seven Gables Inn on your road trip down the California coast to Los Angeles. We appreciate your choice to stay with us as you passed through the Monterey area. Our Bellevue room is definitely conducive to romance with the comfortable couch to cuddle up to your companion and enjoy the beautiful view through the extra-large windows looking down the Pacific Grove coast. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed breakfast, wine and cheese reception and the amenities in your room. We hope you enjoyed your visit to California and look forward to seeing you soon! This inn has a great oceanfront location in Pacific Grove and is within convenient walking distance to the town center. Our room was comfortable and nicely appointed with a private bathroom. Covid restrictions at the moment preclude daily housekeeping, but replenishment of in-room amenities/supplies was a quick phone call or text a way. A basic buffet breakfast was provided and appreciated given the Covid circumstances. Some restoration work is needed in the room and around the property, otherwise it was in relatively good shape. Would be nice to have all rooms include a mini-fridge (I was told there was not enough space in some of the rooms, however, with a bit of creativity our room at least could have accommodated a mini-fridge). What this property was really lacking, however, was the human "innkeeper touch". Though the staff was helpful, it was somewhat standoffish and never genuinely engaged with its guests. Part of the reason one chooses a small hotel or inn is to have more engagement with the staff. Hopefully, the new ownership of the property will take a look at these issues and bring it up to a higher standard worthy of the rates charged.

Dear Boeing747-81, Thank you for your review of the Seven Gables Inn. We are pleased you enjoyed your room but are disappointed to hear the negative aspects of your review. We are sorry you thought the room and our property need restoration work. We pride ourselves on having a historic inn with up to date amenities and all items in perfect, working order through out the property. If you encountered something in your room or on the grounds that was not working properly, please let us know specifically so we may address the issue/s. We have nine out of twenty five rooms with mini fridges. If the room does not have a mini fridge, we have coolers and ice we can provide upon request. To address the lack of human touch, please be aware we are a boutique hotel. Most bed and breakfasts do not have 25 rooms and cannot accommodate up to 55 people. Due to the pandemic most guests prefer to not have much contact with staff. Our staff is happy chat if you have questions about the history of the inn, need suggestions on where to eat or what kind of attractions there are in the area. Our front desk staff has been carefully chosen and trained. We do not hire staff that “phones it in”. Only those truly dedicated to excellent customer service. As far as our rates go, we are very fairly priced. You will find many other hotels in our area that do not have ocean views in every room, do not include breakfast and have prices considerably higher than ours. We feel we offer a good value at the current rates.

Hotel is well-kept and in a beautiful location. Loved our view! However, I will say I was a bit disappointed by the lack of the 'bed and breakfast feel.' The hotel is not doing food-service due to COVID which we knew prior to booking, however, the hotel is also not doing turn down service due to COVID. If the room is cleaned upon our arrival and departure, not sure why our room cannot be cleaned during our stay. I feel these are cost-saving measures that do negatively affect the stay of the guest. At this point, I felt staying at a nearby hotel would've provided a better experience for the value. I understand how the bed and breakfast has needed to make adjustments due to COVID but I feel this is where the they can be more creative in their approach to customer service. Perhaps by providing food service to each of the guests in their rooms during a happy hour or something. Staff was pleasant, however, for the cost per night, did not think it was worth it.
Hotel was clean but our room (Arbor room) did have a particular smell. It could be due to the hotel being an older hotel.

Responded Jun 19, 2021
Dear Melissa and Nathan, Thank you for staying with us for 2 nights in our lovely Arbor Room on your honeymoon trip to California at the beginning of June. As you probably know, California has just released all restrictions as of June 15, which was after your stay and accounted for the lack of food service at that point in time. Just to respond to and clarify some of your comments: 1) Our rooms and our Inn are not old and smelly as you have indicated. We get repeated and consistent guest comments regarding the exemplary cleanliness of our rooms. You will never stay in a room that is as clean and sanitized and thoroughly aired as the rooms at Seven Gables. 2) Our Inn has all modern amenities. 3) We have not offered turndown service in our guest rooms for at least several years mainly because guests did not feel comfortable with anyone in their room during their stay. This was true even pre-Covid and more so now. 4) When you booked it was explained that for your safety and comfort no one would enter your room during your stay. This is following specific Covid protocols which were explained on the website when you booked and in all the email correspondences that your received. 5) To take into account the lack of food service for guests the room rates have been reduced substantially. You paid $269 per night for a deluxe 2nd floor ocean view room that in June would normally be $369-399 per night. This difference in price has allowed our guests to apply the savings toward breakfast and their other meals. 6) Also, we include a Keurig beverage maker in every room with all the variety of coffee/tea supplies as well as a complimentary Wine Welcome Package with a bottle of wine and complimentary snacks upon your arrival. We are so sorry that you felt that the price and value offered at Seven Gables did not impress but we are confident we offer excellent value in all of our amenities and services and location, especially compared to other hotels and inns in the area.

We were very disappointed with our experience here. We came for a romantic getaway and were excited to book on of the best rooms in the place. The room looked a lot different from the pictures advertised. When you book, you receive a lengthy email with all of their rules and regulations and also information stating that the room may not look like the pictures because you will be allocated one of those rooms advertised. Therefore, our room did not have the fireplace or the same windows that appeared in most of the pictures. Our complaint was handled in a very poor manner. Seven Gables Inn were dismissive and I never received any further communication from them. Furthermore, they have check in time beginning at 4pm, which can create chaos in the foyer as everyone wants to check in at the same time and get the most value out of their expensive stay. It is definitely not worth the money. The room was small and the bathroom was tiny and outdated. If you're looking for fresh air, despite showing photos with open windows, the windows may not open...depending on which room they decide to allocate to you. We definitely won't be back.

We appreciate this guest staying with us at Seven Gables Inn for 1 night in late July. The information provided, however, is not completely accurate and we would like to clarify. The guest booked through Booking.com, an on-line third-party travel agent. When booking this way guests are able to book by category and cannot choose a particular room. Booking.com clearly states the number of “unique” rooms in each category and there are photographs of every room in that category. This guest booked a Premium Ocean View King Room and the computer assigned the Bellevue Room. It is one of our largest rooms with an expanded dramatic ocean view through large windows, high ceilings, full shower/tub combination bath and windows that open. It is very popular and is often rented and is one of the best rooms in this category. When booking directly through the Seven Gables Inn website, guests are able to select the specific room that they want at the very best price available and without the hefty commissions charged by booking elsewhere. This guest booked a room July 29 for the next day. They immediately received information on the room that was selected for them as well as details for check-in the next day. All guests receive this information. They checked in shortly after 4 pm on July 30. The chaos that was mentioned at check-in just did not happen. If we have 2 or 3 sets of guests arriving at the same time, there is plenty of seating in the Lobby area with good social distance for the few minutes guests need to wait. These guests said nothing about being disappointed with the room to the Assistant Manager who was on duty between their arrival at 4pm and 9pm when the Lobby closed for the day. We always do everything we can to ensure that guests have a the best possible stay at Seven Gables but it is impossible to know that there is some sort of a problem unless it is communicated to us. The next morning these guests checked out at the Front Desk with the Front Desk Manager and purchased a set of sheets to take home with them. There would have been interaction with the Manager and she always asks guests how their stay was. Again, they said nothing about being unhappy with their room. Several days after they checked out they contacted Booking.com and said they did not like the room and wanted a full refund of their stay. There were several conversations with the guest, Booking.com and us over the next 3 days. The statements that there was no response from us or that we were dismissive is simply not accurate. We are so sorry that this guest did not enjoy their stay.

We spent three days here on our two-month California tour because of the very good reviews. Unfortunately, only the entire property and the room with a view lived up to these reviews. We are experienced world travelers in first-class hotels and can therefore assess the situation in this hotel. The entire hotel complex, the room, the lounge area and especially the view and location are absolutely top-notch. But on Memorial Day weekend, with over $800 per night including breakfast, the service should have been right. Check-in was more like barracks language. We were also informed first of what was not available and when: no reception overnight and in particular only one housekeeping service for three nights (and that was decided after the first night) - intolerable. Everything you needed you had to pick up yourself from reception and only on request (water, coffee pods, etc.). The service at breakfast was dramatic (which was OK but nothing special and not appropriate for the price): two service staff (a man and a woman) stood in the breakfast room the entire time in the morning with unfriendly looks and visibly annoyed. The greeting from the man: room name, surname - not a friendly word. He made sure the whole time to open the door and window that ventilated the breakfast room when it was just over 10 degrees outside, after I had asked them to close them and then did it himself. Half an hour before the end of breakfast, the missing fruit was not replenished. The front desk communicated with us via text message - but one-sided: a question I asked about water was only answered after half a day (the water, which was supposed to come immediately, never arrived - with the note that you were not allowed to enter the room if the guests were not in it - I then had to collect the water myself from reception). Overall, the staff was unfriendly and uncommitted - there was no manager or any other responsible person to be seen. There were too many rules that were not appropriate for a hotel in this price range. You didn't feel welcome. We stayed in 20 hotels, inns, etc. on this trip - this was the most expensive and worst. Overall, unfortunately, for the price and the service, I would not recommend it at all.

To start we were greeted with champagne on arrival. We were then given a tour of the inn ending in our room. The room the Mariposa is a second floor walk up just above the breakfast area. The view is unbelievable with both bay and cove view.
The windows open so no small children. We did not hear noise from the breakfast area. The fireplace is a fake electric unit no heat noise or flame. Hard to see unless the lights are off.

The bed is comfortable but if you have a C Pap the only plug is on the right side. The left plug is switched and connected to three lights.

The room was clean had a k cup in the room. The inn provided k cup pods and water. The bath has soaps conditioner and shampoo. Bow dryer in room.

You are in walking distance to light house cannery and downtown

Seven Gables Inn is located right on the edge of the waters of Monterey Bay. The view from their breakfast room looks out on Lover’s Point and the small cove where we watched some brave swimmers in the cold Pacific and equally brave Otters playing in the waves. The meal they provide for breakfast (price included in the fees) was delicious each of the three days we were there. Our room (the Sea View Cabin) was a luxury for us. There were 2 bedrooms each with its own bathroom a small living room and dining area, but no kitchen. The gas fireplace was a welcome touch in what was already a warm and welcoming place to be. We did have a sea view of Lover’s point and we’re a 2-3 block walking distance to Lighthouse Avenue and its many charms as well as an .8 mile walk to the Aquarium. Finally, but not least, the staff at Seven Gables were, every single one, gracious, helpful and welcoming. Well worth saving up to stay there.

Eileen, Thank you for such a sweet review. It was our honor to host you for three days. We are glad those swimmers put on a little swim for you, brave indeed! The otters are the best! It is so wonderful when Mother Nature cooperates. There aren't many places you can watch an endangered species frolic while you have breakfast or watch from your room. I can tell you, it never gets old watching them. Pacific Grove really does have an ideal location. We are close to everything but also a little removed from it as well. PG is not as touristy as Monterey and maybe not as posh as Pebble Beach or Carmel but we are still near enough to be convenient.

A charming hotel, every room has an ocean view, its own name and character. Just looking through the window put you in a calm/zen mood. Comfortable beds, soft linens..
We stayed during pandemic restrictions, with no breakfast on the site. But there are several delicious breakfast places in a short walking distance.
The hotel build in a late 1800’s and somehow preserve the atmosphere of the Old Wold with its values.
Definitely recommend.

In July the weather in Pacific Grove Is typically beautiful. Temperatures range from the 50’s at night and the low 70’s during the day. It typically starts off cool and at times foggy in the morning and the day warms to a lovely and gorgeous warmer day! Enjoy!

There are locks on the doors and the place is secure. I don't recall if they have a safe in the room. Breakfast time can vary depending on occupancy, but typically 8-10. Coffee is available earlier. The B&B will leave a breakfast menu in your room (or on the door if you have your privacy tag on the door) the night before. You won't leave hungry! The breakfast usually carries me over until dinner or until wine and appetizers at 4 pm.
