Nestled in the heart of the city, the Monterey Marriott earns high marks for its prime location, a stone's throw from Fisherman's Wharf and popular attractions. While the hotel's amenities and the warmth of the staff generally receive commendations, guests often mention that the cost - particularly the valet parking - doesn't quite match the value received.
Opinions on the hotel's ambiance and rooms are mixed, with praise for cleanliness and comfort but some critique regarding decor and noise insulation.

Seemingly little things can make a big difference for a hotel experience. Overall for the Monterey Marriott the little things were positive for us.
Positive little things we appreciated were the hydraulic toilet seat that prevents slamming, the very comfortable chaise lounge in front of the window, the reading lights on the headboard, the plentiful outlets, the refrigerator, frequently replenished free bottled water, the elegant box for coffee/tea supplies, the well placed full length mirror.
There were, however, a few negatives. No bar soap (our preference) in the shower, inadequate lighting for the bathroom sink, cramped space between the chaise lounge and "desk" chair (that isn't really a desk chair).
We felt ripped off by the mandatory valet parking at $40 per day.
Staff were uniformly friendly, positive and helpful. The lobby was bright and well appointed with multiple areas for sitting and visiting.
Dining at Fin & Field was great with a multitude of options and reasonable portions. Tip - we found much greater value ordering off the menu for breakfast rather than purchasing the breakfast buffet.
The pool and Jacuzzi are located outside in the center of the hotel surrounded on all sides by the building and therefore protected from winds.
A hotel worth considering.

Loved the location, walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf and many shops, wine tasting rooms, and restaurants. Even walkable to Trader Joe's! Check-in was seamless, I'm a travel agent and had early check-in privileges through the Luminous program. We received a welcome amenity of a bottle of white wine and charcuterie platter with a sweet note from the manager. Valet parking was expensive but we parked an easy block away for $24/day. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we even enjoyed complimentary a breakfast buffet for two with the Luminous perks. Just a few minor complaints from us. I did not love the dark decor of the modern rooms, especially the bathroom sink area. The lighting was atrocious and I had to relocate the portable magnifying mirror near the window to apply makeup each day. And, when taking a shower in the late afternoon, it took FOREVER for the water to warm up. I almost gave up shivering in the shower until it finally warmed after 5-7 minutes. The major complaint, which was immediately rectified, was that the front desk agent inadvertently gave a new guest our room number 515, instead of 415, and the housekeeping staff opened our door for them, completely startling us. I was impressed at the level of customer service at the Monterey Marriott. I would consider staying here again if ever in the area.

We stayed here again over Labor Day weekend. The front desk staff is always great and friendly. The breakfast buffet with many choices is always great. Even tho a holiday the rates were crazy unnecessarily high with equally high valet only options on site. To management: we’ve been here many times: time to change the thin scratchy towels, have places to put your shower stuff in the shower beside on the floor and towel racks.

This hotel is overpriced and a disappointment. We were on a two night trip to visit the Jade Festival in Monterey. We chose this hotel because it was downtown and close to the festival. We also wanted to be near the wharf but also near downtown restaurants.
What we paid for the strangely configured hotel room was more than twice what it should’ve been. (And I paid for this “upgrade”🤦♀️) The bathroom was a small tiny room with a pocket door with a toilet and tiny shower. No place to place your clothes except the toilet seat. No exhaust fan either. They put the sink outside the bathroom in the carpeted area. (Yuck) . The mirror over the sink was lighted with the most useless light imaginable. Beds were mattresses placed on platforms with threadbare and hole ridden sheets.
The windows were dirty and filled with condensation Air conditioning was not very useful- the room stayed muggy and hot even at the lowest setting. Unable to retrieve any voice messages and operators had no clue. I had to go to the front desk to get my messages. Red light blinking on my phone all night, FUN Lobby was unremarkable and the convenience store was a vending machine.
I gave this 3 stars instead of 2 because of the staff. Front desk was very friendly. Concierge was very helpful and gave us a terrific dinner coupon. Valets were delightfully fun (even if parking was $49 per night)
Marriott used to be so reliable but no longer a choice for my family. We could have stayed at a Luxury hotel on Cannery Row FOR YHE EXACT SAME PRICE. We will do that next time.

Very comfortable hotel conveniently located in downtown Monterey and short distance from 17 Mile Drive. Rooms are spacious and staff is very friendly. Room amenities are: individual sized coffee pot and mini fridge as well as standard hair dryer, toiletries and iron. Microwaves can be delivered to your room by request at no additional cost. The Marriott has a bar and serves breakfast (not included in room rate) and other meals. It is connected to the Monterey Convention Center so if you are attending a conference, this is the best place to be. If you need parking, be aware, only valet parking is available at $40 per day with in and out privileges. There are a couple parking garages with hourly rates within a couple block walk, they do not have in and out privileges. Valet service takes about 10-15 minutes to get your car depending on time of day. Mornings were a little longer wait. Wifi is not free unless you are a Bonvoy Member, you can sign up on the spot. Would stay here again.

We hadn't stayed here in several years as we usually opt for a "Carmel Cute" (read: ready for remodeling) hotel. The location is perfect for doing everything in Monterey: the Aquarium, Fisherman's' Wharf, Old Monterey, kayaking, etc.
The hotel has recently been remodeled, and we loved our room. We had requested an ADA room, and the shower/tub combo was perfect with a bench to sit on and both a hand held and conventional shower head.
We had a partial bay view, and we could see almost the entire bay.

I can't stress enough how overpriced this hotel is. $715 for a 2 queen "city" view room is so unbelievably ridiculous. We stayed one night and had we booked for add'l nights we would have, for sure, left early. The positive: the staff is very nice, very friendly. The front desk and the servers at the restaurant... all very helpful, kind people. But this hotel is 3 - 3.5 stars at best and they're charging as if they're 4 - 5 stars. I booked a room in Hawaii last year for only $200 more at a 4.5 star RESORT. Judging from who else was staying at this hotel, they seem to charge more because they have a lot of business travelers. But the room, the overall feel of the hotel does NOT meet up with this price. Also note: the room has mostly all hardwood floors (except for carpet directly underneath the beds) so you can hear your upstairs neighbors (and even next door neighbors) clomping around. I realize hardwood is easier to clean, but it's NOT fit for hotel rooms. Unfortunately we won't stay here again. I wish we had booked the Hotel Abrego which is where we stayed last time.

I've been staying at the Monterey Marriott fairly regularly since 1985 for business, pleasure, and conferences. At one point, it was my favorite Marriott in the country because of the exceptionally beautiful rooms and extraordinarily gracious staff. Although I've noticed a downward trajectory over perhaps the past 15 years, I was very disappointed with the current status. I've experienced several remodels since the early days. The room I stayed in, though clean and comfortable, seems to have had a budget remodel that made it more akin to a Fairfield or the SpringHill Suites up the road a few miles. The shampoo, soap, and bath gel dispensers were challenging to use. The spindle holding the toilet paper clearly didn't work properly as it was perhaps 1/2 inch too short and with the slightest pressure (i.e., tearing off a length of t.p.) fell from the holder. While this is a minor issue, I don't understand why management hasn't addressed this issue. This is the sort of touch that seemed to be pervasive at present. While it is possible that my impression of the room was because it was a base-level room and I had been fortunate enough to be upgraded regularly for the past 20 years or so (Marriott Lifetime Titanium), I can't help but think my favorite hotel has degenerated into a nice, but low to mid-range very expensive hotel. Finally, the breakfast buffet, while having a huge array of choices, has also degenerated in quality of food over the years tremendously (e.g., undercooked corned beef hash, budget bagels, mediocre orange juice), though still a very good value and great service in the event you have to pay (for me, it was included in the room) I'm not sure whether I'll give it another try in the future.

My sister and I stayed here for her 60th birthday. Early check in went smooth, valet parking went smooth, room appeared clean and bright. We had drinks in the bar and again all went great. Woke up the next morning straightened up the beds and found a pair of air pods inside the sheets. I called down to the desk told them what was found and asked was our bed even made fresh? Were we sleeping on nasty sheets? They said they’d find out and call us back. By now the damage is done, we’re a bit grossed out. We bought ourselves some blankets at the store and slept on top of the bed the second night. Also, it was a bit disheartening to find out only super elite Marriott members get free buffet breakfast, us measly gold and silvers have to pay big time for the Buffett breakfast. Later when we checked out the gal says oh you’re the ones who had the ear pods in your bed, yes that’s us but she didn’t offer an apology or points or anything for the inconvenience all she said was it must’ve been the housekeepers ear pods. Doesn’t matter, shouldn’t have happened and we should’ve gotten an apology. It’s over now and we’ll be sure to make a different choice when we come back to Monterey.

Very disappointing stay at the Monterey Marriott. Despite being a Gold Elite member, there was no acknowledgment of my status nor upgrade nor anything offered upon check-in. Our room was very drab with no notable view and a strange partition between the sink and beds, with such thin walls that we actually heard our neighbors talking to each other night long - eventually had to call the Front Desk to complain and ask to be moved - which they wouldn’t do. The gym space was disgusting and cramped and placed what seemed liked a regular sized guest room; the pool was not available for us to use during our stay, and only after check out did we learn we could have used the pool in another hotel (as if we wanted to traipse all the way there outside in the rain in our bathing suits). Breakfast the next morning had over an hour wait and looked overpriced anyway. Parking was $35 a night and required the use of valet. Overall a disappointing stay and I won’t be retuning.
