We stayed seven nights in October in California including Napa, San Francisco and Monterey. We saved our five suite awards upgrade as Platinum Elite members for this special trip. Despite requesting and receiving confirmation of our requests at the Monterey Marriott and San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf over a month in advanced, both establishments sent an email the night before we were to check in denying our request stating the suites were no longer available! San Francisco staff were very rude; Monterey staff was very apologetic and were kind enough to cover one night of valet service along with a round of drinks at the bar. It is appalling that Marriott promotes this feature as a “perk” of being a Platinum Elite member, it is a totally false claim. I also contacted Customer Service at Marriott while we were there and they did absolutely nothing, stating it is not guaranteed even if we receive a confirmation. They suggested we use it for another trip, but hard to do when they expire at the end of this year and with two months to go, we do not have another trip planned. What if a family was staying in the suite? Finding out the night before you have to cram into a standard room instead? Unacceptable. Marriott has become greedier and greedier with their programs; truly miss being a Sheraton SPG Gold member….…
We only stayed for one night passing through, but had a really great experience. Efficient and friendly front desk staff. Modern property within walking distance of many restaurants and the waterfront. We especially liked the set up of the bathroom, with the sink and mirror outside of the toilet/shower room which makes it much easier to get ready with a family of 4 sharing 1 bathroom! Pool is small, but the surrounding area was nice comfortable seating and bag toss; which the kids enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again.
Hotel rooms have been renovated since my last visit several years ago. They now have a modern, clean look. Still has good in-room amenities although they only do cleaning services on a request basis now. Room services is, as is typical nowadays, via ordering from the in hotel restaurant but you have to go pick it up.
All around very nice experience with staff, cleanliness, size and appointments of the room. The one very irritating issue Bonvoy, or at least this Marriott suffers, is advertising complimentary wifi and then requiring you purchase a package for access. Most hospitality chains evolved past paid wifi years ago. It will be a factor, for sure, in future booking decisions. Since Marriott management will object to my stating their wifi is not complimentary, it is complimentary in and only in the hotel lobby. I find the claim of complimentary wifi to be disingenuous if not outright misleading. An honest claim would clarify that free wifi is not available in guest rooms.
I had the most perfect birthday experience at the Monterey Marriott! We had the fortune of being checked in by the manager, EMILY. I've been to many hotels and she gave one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. She noticed my birthday was just a few days ago, and went out of the way to upgrade us to the second best suite in the house!! She also sent a cheeseboard with a handwritten birthday card. Even as a titanium member, this was above and beyond. Needless to say, the suite was amazing. It had a balcony with the view of Monterey bay. Dinner and breakfast at Fin + Field was delicious. The gym was bigger than expected and had a set of dumbells up to 50lb, dual adjustable pulley machine, and cardio equipment. More than enough for a decent workout. The pool was outside but had temperature controlled water. Swimming at night was very comfortable. The Jacuzzi had decent strength and was relaxing. Highly recommended, one of the most personable and memorable hotel experiences. Definitely stay here if visiting Monterey!…
We had a great stay at the Monterey Marriott. The updated rooms are spacious and comfortable and the location is easily walkable to all the charm in downtown Monterey. Loved the cozy pub across the street. Highly recommend!
I've been staying at the Monterey Marriott fairly regularly since 1985 for business, pleasure, and conferences. At one point, it was my favorite Marriott in the country because of the exceptionally beautiful rooms and extraordinarily gracious staff. Although I've noticed a downward trajectory over perhaps the past 15 years, I was very disappointed with the current status. I've experienced several remodels since the early days. The room I stayed in, though clean and comfortable, seems to have had a budget remodel that made it more akin to a Fairfield or the SpringHill Suites up the road a few miles. The shampoo, soap, and bath gel dispensers were challenging to use. The spindle holding the toilet paper clearly didn't work properly as it was perhaps 1/2 inch too short and with the slightest pressure (i.e., tearing off a length of t.p.) fell from the holder. While this is a minor issue, I don't understand why management hasn't addressed this issue. This is the sort of touch that seemed to be pervasive at present. While it is possible that my impression of the room was because it was a base-level room and I had been fortunate enough to be upgraded regularly for the past 20 years or so (Marriott Lifetime Titanium), I can't help but think my favorite hotel has degenerated into a nice, but low to mid-range very expensive hotel. Finally, the breakfast buffet, while having a huge array of choices, has also degenerated in quality of food over the years tremendously (e.g., undercooked corned beef hash, budget bagels, mediocre orange juice), though still a very good value and great service in the event you have to pay (for me, it was included in the room) I'm not sure whether I'll give it another try in the future.…
This hotel is has nice rooms and is in a great location. The cost is very high and therefor not a great value. Breakfast that is included is absolutely phenomenal. Lots of options and really enjoyed the local donuts and the huevos rancheros. Rooms are spacious but have not been updated in a while.
Thank you to the leadership team and their team for a wonderful stay! Hotel was clean and they went above and beyond to ensure we got all our connecting rooms. Check in was quick and friendly. Emily is amazing she gets 5 stars got 88 year old mom a room with a view. Amber helped check us in and was professional, friendly and quick! Thank you!
Lobby is nice and modernized. Bar/restaurant area is also nicely updated and pretty lively. Angelica the bartender is fantastic. Rooms are ok. Clean and the vinyl fake wood flooring is great. Bathroom is odd, and walls are paper-thin. Big gap under room door allows you to hear every door open or close. The thin walls allows upstairs noise and talking as well as sink, toilet and shower noise to sound as if it's in your room. Gym is old and kinda lame but does the job. Pool is kinda depressing. Location is very odd surrounded by buildings limiting light. Location is good to lots of good restaurants too
