Detailed Reviews
Boutique hotels like this one are the only place you get a unique experience. The trellis flowers, the bright pink bogavia flowers welcomed us as we entered the property. We were welcomed as we walked in and asked for a room. We had been to three branded hotels on either side and the rooms smelled and they looked like every other typical hotel. The employees did not even wait on us. Our room at the Inn at1252 had a jacuzzi and a king bed. The sheets were clean and crisp and we had a refrigerator for our medicine and food from the restaurant on Cannery Row, just down the street. We loved the wineries and the Mission as well. I loved the convenient lite healthy breakfast. The day we were checking out I noticed the convenient paper towel dispensers on the wall in the corridor to wipe our car windows. The staff were very accommodating. Since Covid we noticed when we travel that many businesses struggle with employee shortages and supply shortages. Here we did not feel that. I will make this our home as it is so close to all the attractions and the mall and the water without the high prices of a brand. I didn’t mind paying a few dollars more for this boutique experience where the staff was friendly. Best thing ever is to always call the hotel and book direct as the give the best rooms available because when you book through online travel sites they charge hotel high commissions and it’s hard for the hotel to help with changes. Last thing, to get the best value ask for an early check in if they weren’t full and you get to drop off your luggage and enjoy the day instead of waiting till 4 pm. It is so worth the extra cost❤️ . Tell them Sherry sent you ! Call direct!

Love the rooms with the view. They were very kind to accomodate our request for a good view. The rooms are big and the hotel has a very generous staff. The fisherman's wharf is around 5minutes drive so location is good as well

We stayed at this hotel two years ago and when we returned we got the very same room we had two years ago. No upgrades, everything was the exact same including the holes in the curtains. During our two night stay the cleaning staff didn’t clean the spa and for some odd reason they took the shower curtain in the bathroom and didn’t replace it. It was late at night before I noticed it. Kind of expensive for what we got.

Placed a 3 day booking for August back in May. Received a booking # with email confirmation to follow. Never received. Online states free cancellation 48 hours.
I emailed on 7/30 to get confirmation to cancel my 8/10 trip still no reply called the manager on 8/3, she said sent again that day 2 times. Nothing, not even a phone call back. I called her again verbally to cancel on phone and she is now charging me one night fee which clearly states 48 hours online. She stated 21 days cancellation, she said she just changed the website the day before, How convenient. Not professional, still have not received email of confirmation cancellation however the one night charge I am disputing. Do not book at this hotel.

Thank you for reaching out regarding your canceled reservation. Our records show you canceled after our cancellation period, therefore incurring the full charge for all three nights. We show you booked directly on our website, which states there is a 21 day cancelation policy. We understand plans change and things come up. We did only charge you for the one night room and tax, not the three nights as reserved. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

There are plenty of other places in this price range to stay at on Munras Ave. I travel to Monterey often and this is the worst hotel I have experienced. I booked on Hotels com, they state on their website that they have "pillowtop mattress" they DO NOT, by far the hardest bed I have even slept in.
They did offer for me to change rooms, actually told me I needed to move first thing in the morning so the maid could make up the room. I quickly changed rooms and because of that I missed my whale excursion. I returned at 4 pm and the maid was just getting to my old room. The place was not booked as I stayed through the week. Room was dirty when I arrived so I doubt they are practicing covid cleanliness restrictions.
When I told the manger I missed my planned excursion, she said "oh well, the whale watching is better in the afternoon anyway"! Really?
All the rooms at this hotel are uncomfortable and the noise level is horrible, you can hear noise from the parking lot, to your neighbors, to slamming doors all night & early morning.
Do yourself a favor & stay at the Wyndham down the street. They have comfortable beds, no noise and the bathrooms are large.

We’ve stayed at this hotel before when it was under different management and the stay was pretty nice. This time though we have to say we were quite disappointed. The lock on the door gets stuck which was annoying. The room smelled like wet dog. The whole reason we rent at this hotel was for the Jacuzzi. Mind you the price has gone up over $60 since the previous owners but it’s Monterey so we rented it. Now the hot water on the jacuzzi was so slow it took almost 45 minutes to fill up. We asked the receptionist to come over and help. We were told after a call to management that is how the hot water is. There were pubic hairs on the floor in the bathroom and hand prints on the head board and furniture as if they haven’t been cleaned in a while. Only nice thing was the receptionist. She was really nice and tried to help us and apologize for the inconvenience. Guess we won’t be staying here anymore.

I booked this hotel based on pictures and information on the Booking.com website. Upon check in, I was informed there was no breakfast and no pool available; the clerk and the supervisor didn't seem to care about the inconvenience! Didn't even offer any type of additional accommodation! Then, our room looked nothing like the pictures, the bathroom particularly was ran down. The appliances in the room were outdated and even the remote control needed batteries. The trash wasn't picked up for 3 days, trash outside wasn't removed either. Sheets on the bed were rough. The only positive thing were the cleaning staff.

Online this hotel/motel looks clean and inviting. In person it is dingy, grounds are pretty dirty and overall not a place that makes you feel conformable when traveling and staying overnight. Checked in and staff was fine - not overly friendly and welcoming, but accommodating enough. Our room was down some stairs and off in the back of the motel. It didn't feel very secure, as there were beer bottles standing around by our room and we were in a pretty isolated part backing up to a park with lots of big trees. The room itself was quite dark and didn't seem very clean or inviting. At night we heard almost constant sounds from the room above us and from the room next to us, as the walls and floors are almost paper thin. Staff informed us that there would be coffee and pastries in the morning. It was all prepackaged stuff, which is probably good during covid, but not very appetizing. We paid almost $400 to spend one night here. Absolutely not worth $400!!! This is basically a tiny motel that should be charging closer to $100 for the level of accommodations that they offer. No where near worth almost $400. Extremely disappointing - would never return!

Booked online from the Inn's webpage. They boasted booking direct saves you the most. I took them for their word. A minute after I checked my work's discount sight where it was a $50 dollar a night difference. I called the Inn immediately. The worker (Felicia) I think was her name was super polite and wanted to help but said I had to speak to the manager. I called next day, left two messages. Mala never called me back. I finally reached her. By this time they were fully booked and when I asked if there was anything she could do, she tried to lie and say she couldn't but the truth came out that since the prices went up I was already getting a good deal. But that's why I tried to book early before the prices went up and the website mislead me to believe I could get the best pricing. I would not have made a big deal had it been a $20 a night difference, but $50 dollars a night is significant. And a straight answer would've been better than just lying. I understand Covid impacted things, but the way she did it was wrong.

Firstly, I was sure I'd booked a king room but was given a queen room. A king room was found but with an added $20/night charge. Upon entering the king room, we found crumbs on the floor and in the drawers, and old, melted cheese, in the micro wave. After we stepped out for dinner, this was cleaned. Upon our return, we found a cockroach in the bathroom, and later, a rather large spider in the shower. We left the spider alone but did put the cockroach to rest. When checking in, the desk clerk was adamant that I'd booked a queen room and he wasn't going to consider a fix without a charge. After departing, I spoke over the phone with another employee about the correctness of our bill and her concern for our disappointment was limited, to say the least. It's Monterey, and rooms are expensive, we get that, but this place is waaaay too expensive for what you get. Cannot recommend it. There are many other hotels to choose from.

When a facility offers you the 'run of the house' they are reserving the right to give you whatever room they desire. This could work in your favor if all 'regular' rooms have been booked and the only thing left is a suite, but this scenario seldom occurs.
