We had a double Queen room with a fireplace. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean, quiet and spacious. The simple continental breakfast was greatly appreciated as it was convenient to not have to leave the Inn to have breakfast, allowing us to go back to the room to wash up before heading out. It was walking distance to the main strip where the restaurants were. Overall a very comfortable stay, convenient to all the local attractions. There were ample parking.

What a pleasant surprise! So many good things to say about the Colton Inn! We took a chance when my son & I needed a day-of reservation in Monterey. Spacious, comfortable and well-equipped room with a deck. Continental breakfast was a plus in a cozy space. Super friendly & gracious staff that show they care about their guests and take pride in their hotel! Walking distance (5-7 mins) to restaurants and Peets in a beautiful and cool neighborhood. Adequate free parking at hotel. 5-7 min walk to catch the free trolley at the Monterey Transit Plaza that stops at many tourist destinations including the Aquarium. Hotel price was a great value! Such a more affordable and enjoyable alternative to big-name, brand hotels in Monterrey. I’d stay at the Colton Inn again in a heartbeat!

We elected to make a trip to Monterey for the New Years Eve weekend and needed a place to stay. They were very willing to accomodate us and we stayed for 2 nights. The staff was great, the room was very clean and comfortable, and their continental breakfast was pretty good with a lot of choices. Not a single complaint on our end and good pricing for what you get.

Tripadvisor has suggested I write a review about the Colton Inn even though I only stayed there for one night back in 2015. I had to go through Instagram to find the year. I knew it was Christmas, Boxing Day night actually. I had driven down from Lake Tahoe, to the airport for a drop off and then onwards down PCH to LA. Only one night's stop and the Colton Inn was it. And a wonderful choice too. Cookies and hot chocolate by the decorated hearth on arrival. The kids loved it. Then beer and pizza in spacious double room while watching the Green Mile on TV. Just a lovely memory for me and hopefully the kids, although they were very young. I'd love to go back and stay again.

I stayed at the Colton for three nights, and it felt like home from the beginning. Staff are all friendly, welcoming and caring, and my room was immaculate and comfy. The Colton is no-frills and no glitz, but it is quiet and you have everything you need. They handle housekeeping quite sensibly: they will do your room if you ask, and replenish whatever supplies you need; otherwise, you're left alone. Downtown is an easy and pleasant ten-minute walk away, and there's even a Trader Joe's a couple of blocks away, behind the hotel. By Monterey standards, it's reasonably priced, and the included breakfast is a bonus. If I return to Monterey, I hope to stay at the Colton again.

My family of 4 traveled the West Coast and planned 2 nights in Monterey at the Colton Inn's Family Room. The location was great, but we were given a basement room that smelled like mildew and was damp. It had very small windows and the room was dark and dingy. We all just looked at each other in horror and quickly walked out because of the stench. I asked the very polite receptionist to get the manager to find us another room. The manager walked out with an angry face, was extremely rude, and said that I should have realized what the room looked like from the pictures on their website and that she could not give us another room. I explained that the pictures on the website were deceiving but really the problem was the mildew odor. She said that there was no smell, and that we could go somewhere else. We left and found a great room that was comparable in price at a local Marriott. Our trip was almost perfect if it weren't for The Colton Inn. Disgusting!

My favorite place to stay in Monterey. Rooms are spacious with comfortable queen beds, a small balcony and continental breakfast. Great location with a short walk to food and sights. The best feature is the kind, helpful, friendly staff - especially Yaz, who went out of her way to be professional, helpful and service friendly.

We found the Colton Inn to be a very clean basic motel style hotel. Our family of husband, wife and young adult daughter arrived later in the afternoon after driving Big Sur and a lovely lady at the desk greeted us. Our room was basic but filled our needs for the night. There was a small ceiling fan that was already on at arrival and we opened the door for some fresh air. I don’t think there was an aircon. Coming from Australia I can’t compare if it is value for money for the area but while researching hotels in the area it was one of the cheaper options. It was close enough to the main area to walk into for a meal. The breakfast as others have commented is a basic continental style breakfast with a few pastries, cereal and yogurts. For us it was a bed for an overnight stay while traveling.

Of the 4 places that we stayed whilst travelling around California, this was our favourite. And mainly due to the kind, helpful, friendly staff, namely Ellen, Caroline and Yaz, who went out of their way for us. The room was spacious, comfortable queen beds, small balcony, fireplace (brilliant). Good shower The breakfast buffet is really good. Cereal, toast, bagels, waffles, hard boiled eggs, yogurt. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and a main post office. The wharf is only 10-15 mins. walk. The Sandbar Grill (on the old wharf) is worth a visit. Also Monterey Fish House. - always queues outside, but I phoned and booked a table.

They offer $10.00 off per night for signing up via email which I did. When you get there for the stay they said it didn't process. They would not give you the discount. I left messages for Hemant Patel OWNER and Ellen Reinerink MANAGER for 2 days without a callback. FALSE ADVERTISING!!!
