Nestled in a prime spot for exploring Monterey and Carmel, the Travelodge by Wyndham Monterey Bay draws praise for its strategic location and tranquil vicinity, despite its proximity to the highway. Guests have called out the overall cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, complimented by updated amenities, albeit with some mentions of bathrooms needing a refresh. While the hotel's service garners appreciation for its friendliness, there are occasional remarks about staff rudeness. The pool and other amenities receive nods for cleanliness, but opinions on the hotel's value for money are divided.

Bring bleach wipes because California hotels do not always provide daily room service due to water restrictions. If you need anything just ask the office staff! They are very helpful and polite!

Needed a "reasonable" room price and this location offered that. All my typical locations for Monterey/Pacific Grove were extremely high due to the Women's US Open which was being contested at Pebble Beach. Typical rates in the past were suddenly 40 to 59% higher! Tired looking hotel and rooms definitely could use an upgrade. Bed was so-so and room smell a bit musty. Traveling solo as a volunteer for the golf just needed a room with proximity to the golf course and a place to crash. Would I take my wife here for a get-way...No.

The room was bright and clean. (room 203) The bathroom was quite clean and the shower tile was nice. The heater worked extremely well. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The hotel was close to the airport so we could hear planes landing however most of the hotels/motels are near the airport. It wasn't too distracting. The pool area is well kept. The bottom floor rooms that face the pool have pool access through a slider and there is a small patio with two chairs. Not all of the rooms surround the pool. Se enjoyed our brief stay.

I was visiting Monterey for the first time, to visit the Pacific Grove Monarch Sanctuary. I stayed in the hotel for three nights. The room was very nice and relaxing. The bed was very comfortable. I loved that the back wall/window of the room was a sliding door and you could open it; a very pleasant surprise. Staff was friendly. It was very quiet. I am female and was traveling alone, and felt very safe, even opening my back sliding door at night while watching TV, enjoying the air. The back door opened up to other rooms on both sides and trees in the back. I used public transportation while I was there and there were bus stops very close to the hotel, a few minutes walk away, that provided access to all of Monterey and Pacific Grove. It was about a 20 - 25 minute bus ride to get to Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, and Monterey Bay Aquarium. I paid $201 for three nights, which is an excellent price for staying in Monterey. There was no prepayment or deposit, and I could cancel free of charge up until about 3 days before my stay. The surrounding area was very pretty, with lots of trees and greenery. There also was a restaurant attached to the hotel, but I did not eat there. I highly recommend this hotel and had a very nice stay.

Worst experience as hotel room was dirty, they lack staff, breakfast room is dirty and breakfast options are stale but also scarce. Overall hotel looks old and definitely needs many improvements. It’s nowhere advertised that they are low in staff, that your room won’t be cleaned except if requested and that costumer service isn’t at the top of their minds. As many other reviews have stated you get what you payed for or even worst as 1-2 star hotels can still be clean and care about their costumers. This one doesn’t. On a final note there is a sign in front desk issued by local health department about the possibility of harmful/toxic substances in the area - avoid going there with children or vulnerable people.

Wyndham has a reputable name and I'm a rewards member, but many of their properties, especially on the lower end have issues as does the Travelodge in Monterey. Don't trust the photos, this is a old rundown property. We choose it for it's proximity to the Monterey Fairgrounds for an event we attended. It's very close but there was no pedestrian exit from the back of the property to the fairgrounds. Be prepared to crawl through the locked parking lot exit gate. Entrance ways to building are dirty and the security at these entrance doors is suspect, they don't shut and lock automatically, they need to be pulled shut to lock and we found them open often. There's a trick to using the new cable TV system. The remote did not work without finding a hidden cable box and making it accessible. The rooms are remodeled nicely with new quiet split system HVAC (excellent). But the bathroom was old and the new laminate floors are not made for bare feet. No minimal luxury here. The hotel is on the airport flight path and the jets come in low and loud. The room safes are key type at a nominal charge (really?). But worst of all, even though we stayed multiple nights, there was no housekeeping service for the room. At an average of nearly $200 a night we were not aware that this was a self-service property which seemed unfair. A sign at the front desk said that they were having a hard time employing housekeeping labor. We'll maybe you should increase wages? And at the high price for this substandard property, how does that become my job as a guest? The staff gave a good restaurant recommendation, but other than that there seemed little concern for guest issues. The breakfast consists of apples, granola bars, coffee or tea. Never again.

Amazing. We've been driving up and down the west coast and have stayed in multiple motels/hotels with different experiences, but this one exceeded all of our expectations. At first we were a little scared, since the outside of the building doesn't look extremely promising, but we've been pleasantly surprised by our rooms. We booked one room with two queen beds, that me and my best friend shared, and one room with a king size bed for my dad. The rooms were clean, the shower was amazing (even if it doesn't look like that, trust me, it's a good shower), and we slept like babies. Apart from the great facilities and the clean rooms, the people at the front desk were also lovely.

The motel is located in a good spot, from which you can branch out into any direction of Monterey. If you're there by car, great spots like the old fisherman's wharf or the 17 mile drive aren't far away, and many good restaurants / diners are within a walkable distance. Give this motel a shot, it's definitely worth it.

Worst Service EVER... I was "late" checking because I was working (9pm). The front desk person called my office manager(she made the reservation) 3 times asking if I was checking in? Front desk person saying "You aren't getting a refund, I'm charging you for the night." When I did get there the Front desk person was flat out rude! She cut me off Twice when I was asking a simple questions, Acted like I had asked her to kill her first born child when I asked to be on the second floor.

I noticed a sign that said "Due to a Nation wide Labor shortage, Rooms will only be cleaned by request" All I could think of was "Due to us not pay a living wage, no one wants to work HERE"

Laundry was $3 to wash and $3 to dry... except that it took 2 dry cycles so $9.

I've had toilet paper thicker than the towel.

The fridge was turned "off" not down OFF.

The restroom definitely needs updating. I called front desk because my room only had a shower and after a long pause I was informed that they didn't have tub/shower combo. I really wanted a tub combo because of my toddler. I thought it was odd but left it at that. The temperature dial for the heater was so old the numbers were not legible. I wasn't sure if I was turning the heater or a/c on. The room itself was nice. The thing that really made me not want to come back were the noisy neighbors to each side and on the upper floor. It seems like a large group of families rented out a portion of the rooms. They would all gather outside on the first and upper level without masks. One of them was coughing his lungs out. They were so noisy and didn't let us sleep. It was way past midnight and you could still hear them, we weren't sure if they were laughing or fighting. Plus they were smoking in the non smoking section of the hotel. Not sure if this hotel has security but they sure need one. My sister's both had a room there as well, in a different area of the hotel. One of my sisters room was larger than mine although it had the same old bathroom. It had a lil couch with an ottoman, which was nice. My other sisters room had a shower/tub combo that they assured me they didn't have. Plus she checked it later than me. I was really disappointed seeing that the front desk was not honest with me. I would have been glad to wait for one to become available if that was the case. My brother in law and sister had to walk me and my kids back to our room because I didn't feel safe. First time I ever self unfafe in a hotel room while vacationing. My sisters and family joked that I got the ghetto part of the hotel. This was the first time going out since COVID-19. So I was pretty bummed. If you are considering this hotel please don't! I ended up booking a room at another hotel and that hotel was such a great and different experience. I even stayed two extra nights. They even had a Keurig, whoop whoop! ☕

Way over priced! Has a vintage vibe from the 50s or so, the bathroom knobs lock if they hit the wall and you Close the door you will be locked out of your bathroom! And no One is around past 11pm so you are SOL. They over charged my card, it is SO LOUD it’s in the flight path of the airport it shakes the walls when they fly over but they stop about 8pm and start Again around 5am. Found pubes stuck to bathroom walls. Possibly feces smeared on the wall. I would never recommend this place to anyone!
