Hotel Abrego is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Monterey. We were impressed with the service, the amenities, and the quality of the grounds. The room was comfortable. The breakfast spread was nicely done. Using the large jacuzzi was a great bonus!

Unplanned trip but was so welcoming. Our camping ground was closed and stayed here due to rain with two young kids. The heated pool was amazing. The staff so friendly. So many nice touches to make you feel welcomed. It is also very close to many good restaurants. I would highly recommend

My fiancée and I checked into the hotel on a Wednesday, and checked out on a Saturday. On the Wednesday we arrived, we got into Monterey a little earlier than expected so I called the hotel to see if we could get an early checkin. The guy on the phone said we could and that it would be a $50 charge. I confirmed that we would still get the same room and he said it was. When we arrived at the hotel, we went to the front desk to check in. I gave him my credit card to pay for the early checkin fee and for the $20/day amenities fee. I once again confirmed that it was the same room we booked, and he assured me that all of the rooms are the same. We thought that was odd since we definitely saw different rooms on the website, but we went with it. I filled out a checkin form with the information of our rental car, he gave us the keys, and we went to our room. Our room was in a different building. We had to go down a set of dark stairs into a dark hallway to get to our room. When we got to our room, we saw that it was a room with a double queen bed, and not the room with a king bed that we had booked. Not only that, but the layout of the room and position of the fireplace was completely different than we saw online. We decided that the switch wasn't a big enough deal, so we started to unpack. I went to the window to look outside. It was a ground level view of the street, which was fine. However, I noticed that the window did not lock because it was missing a piece. Obviously this was an issue because we were staying in a street level room in an unfamiliar area. I got a call from the front desk asking me to come back since they accidentally had me fill out the wrong form when I checked in. They accidentally gave me the form meant for someone else with my same last name. The man at the desk refunded the $50 early checkin fee for this inconvenience. I informed him that our window was broken and would not lock because there was a piece missing. He said he'd have someone take a look at it while we were out. No one ever followed up with us and the window was never fixed. On Friday morning we left early and came back in the afternoon. We went downstairs to our room, and neither of our keys worked. I walked over to the front desk to let them know. The woman at the desk informed me that the keys were made wrong when we checked in. They were programmed to expire on Friday instead of Saturday when we were checking out. On Saturday morning when we were about to check out, I went to the bathroom one last time. I noticed too late that we were out of toilet paper. I asked my fiancée to walk over to the front desk to get some. Whoever was at the desk said that they didn't have any on hand, but they'd send housekeeping to deliver some to our room. I waited another 15 minutes after they said that housekeeping would be stopping by before finally calling the front desk myself. I informed them that my fiancée had stopped by and that I was still sitting on the toilet waiting for them to get there, I asked them if they could hurry things up. Someone was at our door in a minute or two with 3 rolls. I went to the front desk to check out, and the woman asked how my stay was. I told her about the wrong room and the broken window. She seemed to assume that I made the mistake when making the reservation, and said that they give us the room that is on the reservation. She double checked our booking, and saw that we did in fact book a king room. She said that she would pass it along to see what happened. Regarding the window, she said that someone had stopped by and that there was a piece broken/missing, and that she's not sure why no one followed up with us. Obviously I could see that there was a piece of the window missing. Why was it not fixed? This of all things is the most unacceptable. A window on street level that does not lock should've been a larger concern, but no one seemed to care at all. Over all, the room was clean if a bit dark. The hotel is in a good location, and there was plenty of parking, though it was nearly impossible to get out of my parking spot on Saturday morning when the lot was completely full. The breakfast was disappointing, basically just egg burritos, toast, and cereal. The "complimentary" wine was a nice surprise, but not worth the $20/day amenities fee. I am extremely disappointed in the staff. One or two of the things I mentioned wouldn't be a big deal and could be chalked up to simple mistakes. But after experiencing all of that in only a 3 night stay, I became very frustrated by the seemingly incompetent staff.

Not a bad place, not life altering either. We were on a week and a half long road trip and this was our destination and turn around spot. So we spent 3 nights here. It's decently located. It's not a bad facility, comfortable and clean enough. I think some of the fixtures are a bit silly and the layout of the room was very awkward and revolved around the stupid fireplace and THE MOST gawd awful uncomfortable chaise long in an awkward corner. There was zero plugs on my side of the bed, which for an attempt to update the room- it fell short in this device driven world. You could tell they had redone the room sorta recently, as in maybe 5+ years? The layout also created an awkward and inefficient bottleneck at the entrance to the room. The bathroom door opened out in front of the closet which was a curtain door. The sink was not in the bathroom (which I don't mind) but it was in a weird spot with a pony wall. Oddly there was sooooo much extra space in the actual bathroom it was weird. NO HOOKS PEOPLE!! Well I take that back- it had ONE hook that was broken and was so high above my head it was ridiculous. The screw was pulled out of the wall. I know people are stupid and they hang heavy crap on these hooks. But there was no where to put anything like a towel. The towel rack is literally hovering to the side of the toilet because they had a big stupid mirror on the wall of the bathroom. Like I said- it was a very awkward layout in the whole room. Why not put a fancy pedestal sink and a shelf in the actual bathroom and put a shallow counter with a bar sink in the area they had the sink. Also- there was no microwave. I just don't understand the layout. All because electric fireplace was a stupid trend 10-15 yrs ago? The bed was on the harder side. I do realize that is all personal preference. But the beds were just shy of a slab of granite. The water pressure was good and there was plentiful hot water bordering on scalding. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was decent continental spread. My husband really liked the first morning they had breakfast burritos. However- they had steel cut oats in a giant heated kettle and it must have been the same batch the whole time during our stay because it just got soupier and soupier, just oatmeal liquid. That was disappointing. I'm an oatmeal most mornings person. I tried the overnight oatmeal and chia mixture and it was disgusting- after a second read of the description I saw what they used - like a combo of almond milk and condensed milk? It was gross and overly sweet. But the scrambled eggs (albeit the industrial kind) and meat was more normal stuff for that kind of breakfast. They did stock fresh fruit- the oranges were excellent and not underripe. Coffee was very typical tasteless brew. But they had a big dispenser of fruit water, well water steeped with fruit. Very cold and refreshing. I think overall this location is decent. It was clean enough. Parking was okay. Location was plentiful. I just think the room layouts are awkward and a tad dated and we spent 3 nights here so while it was comfortable enough to come back to- it wasn't a haven of rest I looked forward to each day. Between the loud kids at the pool and we had elephants doing Irish jig dance lessons in the middle of the night right above us. So THAT was fun. If it was the only place with a vacancy I might stay here again.

Dear riverturtle, Thank you for staying at Hotel Abrego and for taking the time to write a review. I want to appoigize for the room layout and the oatmeal for not being in your expectations. The kitchen staff are amazing and do make fresh oatmeal daily same as for the over night oats and parfait with other hot breakfast options that is served each morning. We hope that for any future stay you are able to tell us all of your concerns at the time of your stay to best fix the situation and best accommodate your stay. Again we appreciate you staying with us and your time for writing your review. We hope you can consider staying with us in the future to best accommodate your needs. We hope you have a great day. Kind Regards, Jennifer Hotel Abrego

Courteous staff and nicely done rooms with a quaint electric fireplace. Decent breakfast spread with veg options. Free spacious self parking. I liked the little patio attached to the room with furniture. We couldn’t use it due to rains. But found out stay very relaxing. Will recommend.

Our room was great but getting to it was a challenge. An elevator is needed in the far building. It is not suitable for caring bags up two flights of stairs, or through the maze of stairs to get to our room.

Our flight was delayed and we were too late to get our rental car at San Jose. We were unable to get to Monterrey for our one night stay. I called to explain the situation, but they still charged us for our room even though it was impossible for us to get there.
