Clean and cozy small inn, 3 minutes walking distance from the shore and restaurants.
We stayed 2 times in March and came back in April again. The room we reserved is on first floor, queen size with a fire place and open balcony to the small garden. We enjoyed drinking coffee and sitting outside in the chairs. the weather was slightly chilly. I think in the summer, it will be just perfect.
The room location was perfect: our car was parked right behind the door.
there is small refrigerator; microwave, and coffee-maker. Huge TV screen.

the location of this lodge is great: close to the beach, restaurants, aquarium, and beach volleyball, which is open to public.
It is very close to the pickleball courts.

The cons: the swimming pool was closed for maintenance. No continental breakfast in this inn.

The Monterey Bay Lodge has all the things a traveller needs: good bed, clean bathroom, refrigerator, reliable wi-fi, off-street parking, and a good location. Walk 20 minutes to Fisherman's Wharf for the restaurants and the whale-watch cruises. It is very close to the beach.

Stayed here for two nights, small family, in a two queen room, ground level floor. The room was very clean, had a sliding door, plus a window over the sink and a window in the bathroom, and a fan. Allowed for lots of fresh air to circulate through. The sliding door opens

into a small patio area (though only divided from the neighbors by some shrubs, still nice). Exterior entries. They do have coffee makers still (I'd read that a lot of hotels had removed them). The blackout curtains in the room are really great... especially given they cover a wall size sliding door.

They have an online check-in option but you still have to go into the lobby and still have to run your card for incidentals and still have to sign something (and it's unclear if they're sanitizing pens but they have hand sanitizer right their at the desk to use).there's Plexi glass in the lobby. One staff person had their mask on correctly and one did not with their nose clearly out.

Parking is a little bit tight but manageable.

Across one street is the estero lagoon that has paddle board available (the park is closed) and a nice area to walk around. Across the main street is the bike/walking path that runs pretty far in both directions as well as an entry to the beach. The beach was crowded during the day on Saturday and tough to distance. Friday evening still had people but it was easy to keep a ways away from groups.

There's a number of great restaurants within five to ten minutes drive.

For the area and given the walkabikity to some nice spots the pricing was more than fair for the area. It's more than what I typically pay for a hotel room, but after a lot of research this seems like a good compromise...more than the bargains but also a better location without being over the top expensive. I'd return.

One note ..the first night I don't think the hotel was full and it was very quiet. The second night the hotel was full and there was someone in the room above us that was...very active around 430am for awhile and everything was very audible through the ceiling. Not atypical for a hotel but perhaps worth noting if this is a make a break for decisions.

We booked 2 nights but left after 1 night, the room was dingy, gloomy & drab. The hotel has a swimming pool but it is empty, there is also a hot tub which is also empty and is not available. There are no restaurant facilities at this site. There was a domestic disturbance nearby during the early hours. We left as soon as it was safe.

Clean Room located next to a gas station. No restaurants nearby. Not walking distance to Cannery Row or any restaurants. Called the front desk to ask where we could eat that was close by and was told the gas station has snacks or we could drive to Cannery Row. Very Noisy- we could hear the people in the next room discussing options for their children's snacks. Kids running on the balcony upstairs. Will never return.

I’d first like to say that the lodge is in a great location for families- across the street from the Dennis the Menace park and the other direction across the street from the beach and coastal bike path. It is driving distance to the Aquarium (which is closed due to COVID).

I requested a quiet room as our kids go to bed early. The room double Queen was clean but we were on the bottom floor that faced the busy street and we heard not only loud road noise but every foot step above us and the TV next door.

Around the grounds there were cigarette butts all around signs of pets as it is a pet friendly hotel. We will not be back.

The room was cute, but small. There were ants in the shower, which was so tiny there was no way to shower without getting hair wet.
But the bigger problem was there handling of a guest with a disability. My travel companion has a medical alert dog-not a pet, not an emotional support animal, but a dog specially trained to alert for their specific illness. While the dog can be in any room, we requested a pet friendly room because it is the polite thing to do. ADA regulations require no additional fee be charged for medical service animals, but the Monterey Bay Lodge refused to waive the pet fee. For the Not a Pet. We wanted to go elsewhere, but the clerk refused to cancel our reservation.

Let me just start by saying that probably the only good thing about this place was the parking. My girlfriend and I are usually pretty laid back with most places and restaurants and we don't complain much but this "lodge" kinda pushed it. First impressions going into the room, one of the face towels had a smudge of toothpaste on it, a couple ants on the wall but we didn't think much. We killed the ants, and left the napkin so the cleaning staff could see that they had a lil problem and we put the towel aside. So far, we weren't heated enough to complain, it was a long drive there and we were tired. Second morning, right off the bat I saw two ants crawling on my leg and blanket. Once again, I killed them and put them on the nightstand. That was a little far, so I called the front desk and they said they'd have a manager call me back. TLDR: this place is not worth the cheaper price. Spend a little more money and stay somewhere with clean towels and NO ANTS, horrible impressions especially during COVID-19.

We stayed here Sunday thru Wednesday June 19th thru the 22nd. The location was great as it was walking distance to lots of restaurants, a nice clean beach and Fisherman's wharf. Across the street is a park with a lake with swan paddle boats that would be fun for kids. The room was clean but we were surprised that there was no air conditioning in our room #214. There was a fan so it was OK but could be very warm in the summer. The bathroom sink area was a bit crowded as they put the small fridge (kept everything nice and cold), the hair dryer, the lighted mirror and the microwave in the same small space with only 2 plugs but it was OK. The in-room safe did not work and they didn't seem inclined to fix it but we let that go. The shower was nice and strong, the bed was very comfortable and we had a bit of a view of the ocean. Good TV channel selection on the large flat screen. Wi-fi was too slow so we stayed on 5G. The common patio and pool area was nice. The area toward downtown was safe for walking. There is a McDonalds just on the other side of the lake park. We walked to Melville Tavern for dinner and had a fantastic breakfast at LouLou's Griddle in the Middle on the pier. Super cute place, fantastic service and delicious food. The hubcap pancake is so huge, it hangs off the plate. They were only open for breakfast Friday thru Monday. We went on Monday but would have gone back if they were open. Except in the height of summer, we will definitely stay here again. It was almost half the cost of most other locations and met our needs. We don't hang out in our room a lot so it worked fine for us.

The price was reasonable for Monterey.
The location was just off a very busy street, but within walking distance to Fisherman’s Wharf.
The bed was comfortable, heat was provided by an electric fireplace.

About 1:00 a.m., a disturbance awakened me. People in a near room were yelling, laughing, banging, swearing, and showering. It went on for an hour.
