We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night visit to The Jabberwock Inn. This is a beautifully restored 1911 Craftsman cottage centrally located in Monterey close to everything one would want in Monterey. The Inn is filled with beautiful Quarter sawn oak furniture that gives it a very homey atmosphere.
Rick, Suzanne and Dorothy were great hosts and were very informative about everything related to the Inn as well as surrounding restaurants and wineries to visit. Breakfasts and evening wine and snacks were all freshly prepared and presented.
We highly recommend this B&B and will stay here again on our next trip to Monterey. Thanks for a great experience!

This place is totally charming. I stayed in the Brillig Room (queen bed, fireplace) while I was in town for a conference that is always in Monterey and I have already booked the same room for next year. In the past, I have enjoyed the Monterey Plaza, but this is so much more cozy and comfortable and the views of the ocean from lying in my bed were incredible. Easy and plentiful onsite parking were a plus for me. It was walking distance from an event at the Aquarium. The staff who greeted me and with whom I infrequently interacted during my stay were great. I was only able to have breakfast once, but that was nice, with an apple croissant and a round frittata-like entree. Really good coffee was available at 7:15 a.m. on. Fresh cookies always available, plus free sodas. I didn’t get a chance to go to their happy hour.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a longer road trip and were absolutely wowed by this very charming b&b. From initial booking to leaving we had a great experience. The b&b is in a safe area, close to the coastal walk, harbour seal viewing and Pacific Grove, there are also a number of great restaurants and bars nearby. Safe and free off street parking (car park out of use on our visit).

Our room had an ocean view (we had booked a garden one, but were given the option to switch at no extra cost as they weren’t at full occupancy). Filtered water and a little decanter of brandy in the room and then a small fridge down a flight of stairs within a little cubby hole for guests to help themselves to bottles water, juices and fizzy drinks.
Cookies and tea available 24/7 in the dining area.

Wine and appetisers served every evening if you want it, recommend people do this as it’s a great way to meet other people staying there (only a small place so great to chat).

Lots of things to look at in all of the rooms which make it the place it is, cute, unique and charming.

Breakfast changed everyday and very different to the run of the mill meal. On our second day we had to leave early due to a pre booked excursion , we were left fruit, juice, coffee, breakfast bars and croissants to take with us.

A fabulous stay, thank you

The Jabberwock Inn is situated is a residential neighborhood within walking distance to shopping, many fine restaurants, the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. We were warmly greeted by Dorothy who remembered us from our previous visit.

The owners Rick and Suzanne have created a warm and comfortable atmosphere in their restored Craftsman B&B with 8 individual rooms that fit the different needs of their guests.

Wine and hor d'eouvres are offered in the evenings. There are also cookies, bottled water and soft drinks available as well as an early morning pot of fresh hot coffee for those early morning risers.

For breakfast, Suzanne took the time to describe our delicious breakfast, which she personally served in their bright and sunny breakfast room with relaxing views overlooking their expansive garden.

We appreciate the efforts and attention to detail that Rick and Suzanne have taken to ensure a cozy home base where their guests can relax and enjoy Pacific Grove, Monterrey, Carmel and Big Sur.

Thank you for another wonderful time and we are already looking forward to our next visit to the Jabberwock Inn.

One word...Enchanting!

We had the pleasure of staying here for a couple days in June and from the moment we entered the front door we felt like we were valued members of the family.

I've always loved Alice in Wonderland and the recurring theme throughout made our stay extra special. The staff (Dorothy and Brianna) couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and Suzanne was just a wonderful hostess.

We stayed in both the 'Wabe' and the 'Brillig' rooms and even though we loved both, the Wabe was just perfectly located at the top of the house and so charmingly decorated--that we felt like we had fallen down the rabbit hole and truly didn't wish to leave. Since I am not a tall person, the smaller doorways were just right and made me feel like the room had been made just for me. It was so perfectly quiet and relaxing that we slept each night with our windows wide open to the fresh air.

Their breakfasts are tasty and just the right portions. Each morning it was a fight to decide whether to have their delicious Jabberjuice or wake up to the smoothness of the Carmel Roasters coffee they served. (We had both!). The sunroom (or 'fog room when it was foggy' was so nicely set up and it was a pleasure to sit there and plan our day.

Honestly, I can't think of another place that we've enjoyed more or looked forwards to returning to.

We were two couples who stayed at The Jabberwock Inn for 3 nights.
The location is on a quiet street with easy parking and the Innkeepers certainly care about their guests. The building and interior decor is interesting and historical with a touch of fun, the breakfasts and Happy Hour are delicious, and the location provides easy access to restaurants, the Aquarium, walking destinations. The rooms are upstairs and each one is different.

Kaloo Kaley what a Fraptuous Day (and night) I had at this wonderful, charming inn. Rick and Suzanne were -more- than accommodating and this house is just beautiful craftsman style. Everywhere there are touches to embellish the Lewis Caroll Theme from the names of the rooms to the ornaments and books on walls and stairs. One will find everything from the Jub Jub Bird to the White Rabbit and NO Queen of Hearts in sight.

I stayed overnight a week or so ago to attend the Monterey Bay Aquarium Member's Night and I found this place looking around. I fell in love with the name and the decor as I am a HUGE fan of the Craftsman style. As a writer I wanted something that would inspire me and this was the place. I was also pleasantly surprised to find bits and bobs to acknowledge the resident writers of Monterey, Steinbeck and Lewis Stevenson respectively.

Meals were very good, the appetizer I had in the evening was nice and I could walk right downtown to enjoy sushi at "Crystal Fish" which the owners themselves enjoy. The gardens of the house were gorgeous, and it was a nice little treat to see the resident deer of Monterey munching happily next to the fountain. The other guests seemed in good spirits and if I didn't have the event to go to I would have stayed and enjoyed some talk with them.

Breakfast was delicious as well a sort of croissant with a sweet sauce, sausage and "Jub Juice?" (Please forgive me Suzanne I may have misremembered it.) I was also pleased to hear the story of the house and though told it twice I have the worst memory on Earth or I would regale everyone with what I know.

It was a warm evening and being on the upper floors, I was very thankful for a window, and such a house cannot easily be air conditioned. My only other concern was trying to not get too hot water in the shower, but in an old house that's a given. A little nip and tuck, a tiny bit of luck and I got it going just fine. It will be my pleasure to stay there again.

My husband and I stayed here two nights and it was delightful. The hosts are personable, helpful with information about hiking, restaurants and things to do and they are enthusiastic stewards of the property and respect its history. The house is a gorgeous Craftsman style building and staying in it feels like staying in a historic mansion, with its wide dark woodwork, fireplaces (propane, and it was usable), and old fashioned crank-out windows. Breakfasts were excellent and substantial, and the hosts provided very nice wine and appetizers for an hour each evening. The inn is within walking distance of the busy part of Monterey but it is in a quiet residential neighborhood. I highly recommend this inn to anyone.

This is the real deal! How many B&B's have you visited in recent years that still offer a served hot breakfast, afternoon tea and cookies, evening wine and appetizers, a stash of bottled water, soda, and juice, and a nightcap all included in the room rate? Add charm, elegance, cleanliness, spacious grounds and common rooms, easy parking, a warm welcome, and impeccable service to the list. Rick, Suzanne, and staff have thought of every little detail to make your stay comfortable and memorable. (Nope, you won't have to sacrifice a lamp to charge your phone.) I must also mention the proximity to Cannery Row - just a few blocks away. Some may not wish to tackle walking up the hill, but with all the goodies, you need to work off a couple extra calories. We treated ourselves to the Borogove room which provided a lovely sitting area with fantastic bay view and a cozy fire. Yes, there are a few squeaky floor boards, but what do you expect from a house that's 114 years old? Sit back, relax, and enjoy life!

We stayed three nights at The Jabberwock Inn and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The snacks and wine in the evening are great, as are the breakfasts. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was very comfortable. We thought it was slightly over priced, however and also there was a space for a tip on the receipt, which we thought was a little cheeky, bearing in mind the room rate, but this might be a cultural difference as we're from the UK, but we spent three weeks in California and no other BandB requested a tip in addition to the room charge. Overall, we had a very nice stay here and would recommend it to others.

Also don't know about bus station but definitely within walking distance of the Aquarium and Cannery Road, but be aware it is on a steep hill, so the walk down is fairly easy, but the walk up is not for the feint of heart. Also, re: Aquarium. Try to go on a weekday not a weekend, especially if you its a holiday.
Chelsea R asked a question Nov 2015
When is breakfast served?
Answer from Jabberwock14
Monterey, CA2 contributions
Hi Chelsea, We spoke a couple of moments after your question, but just in case I will answer again. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 in the main dining area and on the sun porch. Some folks come down for coffee which is served by about 7:15. Others sleep in and come down right closer to 9:30. If this is too "early" just chat with us and we will try to make some sort of accommodation. Best regards, Rick
