The InterContinental Clement Monterey made our trip down the coast phenomenal. We sprang for an upgraded room overlooking the water which made the visit wonderfully authentic. We opened the door, let the Pacific air in, listened to the gulls and the seals and felt like John Steinbeck set the scene. The hotel team was extremely engaged...always jumping in to serve and knowledgeable of the area. The amenities were well thought out (binoculars in the room were an especially good touch). The breakfast in the restaurant was bright, airy and delicious (the Chilaquiles were over the top). This is a well run hotel that should be the travelers only choice when traveling through Monterey.

We came at the end of November for a getaway from the Bay Area. This was the best experience I could expect from a hotel during Covid times. Staff were very helpful, and kept a distance that was safe for them and for us. Hotel dropped off breakfast bags in the morning and our few toiletry requests were met quickly! I booked this as a rewards stay but paid cash to upgrade to a partial view fireplace room, which was a great choice for us! The water is right there we enjoyed the sound of the waves from our room. The room was a good size, which works well for a time when many other indoor activities are unavailable.

Saturday evening featured live guitar music that could be heard from the patio, where guests can sit by the outdoor firepits. We could choose to hear it my opening our sliding door, or close the door when we preferred quiet.

Around the hotel, and in Monterey in general, people were very respectful with use of masks and distance.

If looking for a cozy stay near the water focused on the room itself, rather than amenitites that have to be closed right now, this was a great choice!

I was extremely disappointed with Intercontinental The Clement Monterey and feel this has been one of my poorest Intercontinental experiences.

The hotel has a fantastic location on Cannery Row next door to Monterey Bay Aquarium and amongst a plethora of shops and restaurants.

Check in was quick and robotic. There was no recognition of IHG/Ambassador status whatsoever, and no mention of a welcome amenity. The staff were perfectly polite but it all felt extremely corporate and soulless.

My room, a Traditional King Bed, was very spacious, overlooking Cannery Row square at the front of the hotel. The bathroom was also spacious with a separate shower/bath tub and complimentary Agraria amenities.

We visited the C restaurant + bar one evening for drinks, but it did not appeal, so we did not stay. This is the hotel’s main restaurant where breakfast is also served. We chose to dine outside the hotel.

I think it would be unfair to give the hotel only 3/5 although 4/5 also feels a bit generous. The latter better reflects the hotel’s excellent location and the great condition that the property is in. All rooms and public spaces feel fresh and well maintained. I feel more effort needs to go into elite member recognition and making stays a bit more personal rather than having a corporate front. There seemed to be a number of groups arriving with golf buggies, which may explain the lack of personalisation if the hotel generally deals with groups of travellers. The property has the potential to be excellent but is far from it!

Having stayed here pre and post Covid, I have enjoyed every visit. Great view room overlooking the ocean and side on to Cannery Row meant people watching was great. Room was clean and I felt confident on the Covid front - all requests for toiletries, fresh water etc were promptly delivered in a bag. Shame no "grab and go" food from the restaurant alike other Californian Intercontinentals who do, yet the mini bar was full, contrary to other Californian Intercontinentals - citing Covid? Anyway, great hotel, great location, spot on service.

Let me preface by saying i am a hotel snob. We always stay at 5 star hotels only- four seasons, ritz, rosewood etc. Upon researching luxury hotels in the area this was the nicest one. I knew my experience was going to be subpar but it fell way below even normal standards. We have been traveling even during the pandemic and every hotel we have stayed at had housekeeping. We always leave when they are cleaning. There is no housekeeping service here at all! They only drop off items as needed towels, toilet paper etc. They need to at least tell you this when booking or mention this at the front desk upon check in. I nicely piled our dirty towels in the corner of the bathroom and no one picked it up once. The pile grew each day and trash started accumulating and coming back to unmade beds after a long day of exploring is not what I had in mind for a 4 star hotel. Everything is wide open and there is no excuse to not have housekeeping services if you’re still going to charge full price.

More CONS- the location is on busy and noisy on canary row. You will hear loud motorcycles and cars zooming by late into the night. The walls are thin and lots of little kids in the building. Our neighbor upstairs was so noisy running jumping every morning starting at 7am! The water smells and it’s loud when the upstairs guests shower or bathe.

Some PROS- they room upon check in was clean, the towels are big and thick, the beds were comfortable. We had a fireplace in our room but it shuts off after 10 min. The ac was good and it was quiet! The location can’t be beat we walked to the aquarium, many restaurants, fisherman’s wharf and Starbucks around the corner. There was a bike rental shop near by and we enjoyed riding bikes on the designated path with some really good ocean views!

As we continuously work on surpassing expectations and prove to be a delight, we hope you will make our hotel your secondary home again. Warmest regards, Zel N. Case Manager IHGService

Been to many Intercontinental hotels and this one sucks; they are not ready for travellers post-pandemic despite the high prices charged, they services provided are similar to a Motel 6 just more expensive. Simply you are not getting your moneys worth, I could not even get a notepad in my room since they had "run out" despite paying over $ 400 per night. I just came back to the room after 4 hours and despite me talking to the front desk about needing the linens changed and towels replaced, the used towels from the morning are still in the bathroom. It's been 1 hour since I called for towels and still no one has shown up. Next time will have to look at other hotels in Monterey.

Taking a trip mid pandemic is weird. Staying in a hotel is no different. We did not get to experience much of the hotel, as much of it was not available. Daily housekeeping was also suspended and only available upon request, very limited. On the upside, we were able to secure a complimentary room upgrade and early check in. Our partial ocean view room have a view of Bubba Gumps, with the bay on the right and Cannery Row on the left. It was a great room! The fireplace was a plus. It works but mostly just for looks. Downside was the balcony was so gross. The aquarium is right next door. I highly recommend joining the hotels loyalty program. Great benefits!

My family and I usually stay at the Monterey Bay Plaza Hotel, but we decided to try this hotel for a change. We have eaten in their restaurant before and it was good and the hotel is pleasing to the eye. It was a Friday and we checked in early. Staff were friendly and professional. After a full day of wandering about the city, we walked back to hotel and to our dismay their restaurant was closed. We Walked over to the Monterey Bay Plaza Hotel and had lunch. Excellent lunch and beautiful view there. We retired to our room for the evening and went to bed at 10:00 pm. The room next door was blasting their music so I called down to the front desk to complain. The lady said she would contact the room. Well needless to say, the loud music continued and we could hear the occupants of this room cussing stating that if we thought the music was loud now, see what happens next. The music turned up and we could hear the occupants cussing presumably at us. I guess they heard us call. We called Back down to the front desk and complained again and the lady said someone would be making contact with the occupants. I told the lady at the front desk that we were not going to put up with this ridiculous noise especially paying these kinds of prices for one night and we wanted a different room. The lady at the front desk said there were no more rooms available. We got so sick and tired of the noise and the cussing next-door to our room and we packed up her bags and walked downstairs to speak with the manager. My wife informed the lady manager that we were going to leave and drive home because we were so upset about the noise these ghetto people were causing. The manager was friendly and understanding but was not able to offer us another room because she said the hotel was full. The manager gave us a discount on the room but not a complete refund and we drove all the way home to Modesto California at 11 PM. I’ve never been so disgusted and disappointed with the hotel in my entire life. From this point forward we will not stay anywhere else but the Monterey Bay Plaza Hotel where we have never been disappointed.

Hi F9299QHmichaele, Thank you for choosing our hotel for your family's lodging needs. We welcome feedback, especially from our valued guests. We strive to create an atmosphere that blends convenience and comfort. I am sorry to learn that the noise levels from our other guest tarnished your overall hotel experience. I understand we could not move you to another room. I will make sure t pass your remarks, and I trust the steps taken will ensure that future guests do not have the same experience. We would like you to consider our hotel a home away from home. I sent you a private message to ask for more details on your details. Again, thank you for making us aware of your hotel experience. Our travel agent (TA) booked a room for 2 nights at the InterContinental. I’d never heard of the place before. If it wasn’t for her we never would of known about this great hotel on Cannery Row. Our experience was definitely 5 stars. We had a corner suite on the second floor - great location on the waterfront with a second balcony. The room was very quiet, no street racers or motorcycles after 6pm or so. We found the king bed so comfortable we looked to see what kind of mattress - a Beautyrest Black with a wonderful topper. Wow! It was comfortable. My only issues with this property are 1) $150 pet fee; 2) $25 per night parking, and 3) no reward points because we used a TA. I don’t understand why no points and the additional fees considering how much we paid for our stay. If it wasn’t for our TA we never would have stayed here. I’m not to the point of saying to our TA no more IHG hotels, but I’m getting darn close. Now that I’m retired we travel 60+ days a year and I can chose who we stay with and I just may chose not not to stay with IHG.

We stayed for 3 nights from August 3-6 in room 396 with 2 double beds. I was with my wife and two daughters who all really enjoyed our stay. The location is great in the heart of Cannery Row, right next to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.

We self-parked our car ($35/day) which worked out best for us as we had family in the area and used our car a few times a day, but valet parking was also available and the staff was always hustling.

My daughters enjoyed the heated pool and jacuzzi and even though it was rather small they were glad it was there. The fireplace in the room was a nice touch as apparently it's always chilly in Monterey. The bathroom was spacious.

Overall this was a solid choice for the area with wonderful views of the bay.
